I feel like such a horrible person. Yesterday my HandOfZek had a seizure.. Now, he's never had one before, so seeing it happen scared the shit out of me. He's been in the hospital since yesterday and they plan on keeping him another night.

He seems absolutely fine now. He has no recollection of what happened. Throughout his entire hospital stay I've been so upset. I really want to be supportive, but I'm somewhat traumatized by the entire ordeal. Seeing him in such a vulnerable position makes me sick to my stomach. I'm terrified to leave him alone anymore. I think I'm kinda scared of him. I'm not entirely sure why. I'm so scared that I may break him or cause another seizure.. or worse. I've never seen this happen to anyone before and I can't seem to get the terrible images out of my head. It really scared the fuck out of me, to say the least. I feel so awful because I've spent the entire time in the hospital quiet and depressed. I know he's beginning to get annoyed with me for the moping around, but I don't know how to seem better. I seriously think I'm traumatized from this. I couldn't sleep and my stomach has been in a frenzy. I can't seem to think about anything but his body convulsing helplessly with a twisted expression on his face. I seriously thought he was dying. He turned so blue..

Has anyone had to deal with a situation like this? I need a support group.

A 'My Significant Other had One Seizure, and He's Safe and In Good Hands' support group? Who the fuck needs support for that? Go tend to your child, and take the kid and yourself down to the hospital and bring him some good food. I swear if some kind of natural cause kills Zek before he kills himself, I'll be severely disappointed.

Bottom line, it was a lone attack, probably something to do with his eating habits. Not enough glucose? Insulin or something? As long as he pays attention to the Doctors, he'll be fine.

I hope such a support group exists.

Do they know what caused it? from your post it seemed almost like you're subcontiously blaming yourself for it, which doesn't make sense. but hey, i'm not a psychologist, so my guess is just as good as the next random totsean's.

Did you grow up in a box? You've never seen anyone have a seizure before, seriously? One of my best friends growing up was epileptic, he had seizures all the time. It's a little freaky yeah. Not traumatic though. But you've been through childbirth. I don't think I could be scared of anything after witnessing that firsthand...

They think it's either his medications (zyprexa and prozac) or epilepsy.

I guess I did grow up in a box because this really traumatized me.

I dunno about the medications, but i do know a guy with epilepsy and he seems to get on just fine. I'd bet that he's just as scared as you are, probably even more so, not that he'd admit it. Just try to be there for him emotionally, let him know that you love him and everything's going to be ok, and all that jazz. getting through something like this is always better when you do it with your partner, instead of both of you going through it alone.

I used to have random seizures all the time. They're not so bad.

Could have been lack of sleep, epilepsy, possibly diabetes. Has he been tested for diabetes?

Or, just good old fashioned drugs finally kicking his ass a bit.



I dont really know what to say to be supportive. I like him but I cant pretend to care about zek. I'm more concerned about you and the kids,considering the things he's put you through.

Seizures are so fucking weird, haha. I actually kind of enjoyed them. I never had one, until one week I had 12 in two nights. Then, never again.

The best advice I can give you would be to go to the hospital and have sex with him?

I mean, honostly, who wouldn't want sex while they're laid up in a hospital bed waiting for some test results.

Just let him know you're there for him emotionaly, and being physical is a good way to show it. Right now you're acting likem everything has changed. How do you think that makes him feel? Him being the cause of you "moping around"...

Hit that shit, and let him know that no matter what, everything will be ok.

Last week my crippled kid went unconscious for 20 minutes and stopped breathing thrice.First time ever he's had anythign like that.

Doc's think it might be a kinda seizure/vertigo.

That kind of thing is scary as fuck the first couple of times it happens.

I thought I was gonna have to give CPR. Last time I did that was 20 years ago and the bloke died!

After a couple of seizures you get real blase about it.

I had a seizure due to medication once. It was very similar to the seizures ice addicts get. Strange.

Dumped the meds, never had the problem again.

I didn't grow up in a box, and I've never seen a person have a seizure. And I'm pretty sure it would traumatize me as well, especially if it was someone I loved. And he turned blue too, I'm pretty sure that's not typical of seizures...It would be different if he was epileptic, but I can imagine that an unexpected seizure in a healthy person would be absolutely horrifying, especially if they turned blue.

In any case, Hardly There, I think you just have to let your rational mind take over and realise that it's probably nothing too serious, and that he's okay now.

Stop worrying and go see a doc. I went off Welbutrin because of that. Later went on Effexor, which was not a good choice for me, so I went off that.

I've seen a variety of people having seizures over time. It's not a pleasent sight. You have to remember that they aren't in control of their body.

Take a second to relax, then react. It sounds easy, it's not.

I know it would be a difficult picture to banish from my mind. You reacted as you reacted, now just do what you need in order to deal with it. You'll be alright with it soon, the initial shock will fade. Remember that it wasn't him on the floor, it was a seizure; he had no choice in the matter.

I've seen my mum have loads (and I mean loads) of seizures from 2+ so I can see why it would upset you.

Though she's not had one in a few years which is pretty amazing.

You'll be fine when he gets out (you said they were keeping him in for another night?) probably. If you aren't totally happy straight away, you will be. It's probably mainly because, like you said, you've never seen it happen to anyone and it a pretty trippy thing to watch. It's really horrible.

I had a seizure this morning. Although truth to tell, I was kind of asking for it...Then I was about to have another one, but I was like, able to control it, and instead of seizing up and shit, it just kind of dissipated throughout my body.

I used to have childhood epilepsy, and by some miracle I grew out of it when I hit puberty.

No one has control over the hands they were dealt in life, its embarassing for some who have it but not for all, he seems like hes vulnerable right now.

Just suck it up and be a man, theres nothing either of you two can do about it, "im so sorry" shit isnt going to work, just drop in pay your respects and watch some shit on hospital tv programming and share a laugh or something.

He spoke to me once about being worried about Serotonin Syndrome. I had this, and it is just like a seizure. I would be swayed towards this.
