Default your definition of shallow

for my whole life, my philosophy on relationships and being is shallow is that if you are not physically attracted to them, then they are just friends. of course you are going to want to root your partner.

therefore i won't consider going out with someone unless i find them physically attractive on some level.

what is your definition of shallow because I've been getting abit of shit over this lately. i don't know if they people ive been associating with are just immature or not. i need some perspective on this matter.

p.s. sorry if this isn't really a full thread, because there is another one like this. i just didn't want to hijack it.

I think being shallow means that you judge people solely on their looks. You're right that there has to be a physical attraction, that doesn't make you shallow.

You way of thinking isn't shallow at all. A romantic relationship is not romantic at all if you are not sexually attracted to the other person.

If it weren't for sex, we'd all just be *best friends*.

There is a line, though. If you're staying away from furthering a relationship because they're not your picture of a sexually perfect person.

It's not shallow to need to find your partner attractive.

It would be shallow if you went beyond the normal and started demanding your partner have huge huge breasts and an amazing tan and told her you wouldnt love her properly till you did.

Shallow is when you meet someone that has an amazing personality, everything you want in a partner, and you turn them down because they're just not quite up to par on the physical attractiveness. Not that they're horribly disfigured and missing an eye and half their nose or something, but... their hair isn't quite right. Or, they dress wrong. That's shallow.
