Intrauterine Device (IUD)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intrauterine_device
Does anybody on &Totse use this? What is the whole personal experience like?
How would you stack it against "The Pill"?

Re: Intrauterine Device (IUD)
It's not very popular, but as far as I know, it's a very good method of birth control. I can't take anything hormonal, so I've been considering getting a copper IUD for a long time now. I'm worried about getting heavier periods though (which is a risk) so that's why I've never gotten around to getting one.

Re: Intrauterine Device (IUD)
Honestly, if you haven't given birth to a child already, a IUD will hurt.
Since your cervix wouldn't be open AT ALL, the doctor would have to force it into your uterus, and if you ever try to take it out yourself, you can puncture the uterus.
I would consider a diaphragm, but you have to be more comfortable with yourself.

Re: Intrauterine Device (IUD)
tainteddd, it's not supposed to be that painful, and besides, you can leave it in for years. So even if it did hurt badly, you get it over with and wont have to do it again for a long time.

How do you supposed the menstural fluids get past it?
Doesn't it look basically like a cork?
That whole contraption has me completely miffed but profoundly curious.

Well, only the strings hang out, don't they? It's not like strings are going to stop a period from coming out...

GASP OMG NO IT DOESN'T!
Wow, that is so weird! So it just fucks with your uterus' natural sperm-recieving abilities. That sounds so high-techie, but all it is is copper.

If you're sexually active it really would be a good idea to get a pap smear and a pelvic exam. For some reason (that I can't recall right now), being sexually active puts one at a higher risk of cervical cancer.
Even if you don't go right now, waiting until you're 25 definately isn't a good idea.
On a side note: did you go to your regular physican to get "the pill"? Or are you using some other form of birth control?
