Default How important is a guy's height to girls?

I know this has been asked in the past, but it came up in a conversation last night and I couldn't remember what people had said.

I've heard a lot of girls say that height is an important consideration when deciding if a guy is attractive. I'm 5'6" and I do well enough that no one believes me if I tell the stories myself. Am I just lucky or have I been fed nonsense?

The only way it affects my relationship is that my girlfriend cannot wear high heels much.

They like tall guys, in general.

Being short isn't a real handicap, but many people seem to think so.

For me, pretty much if you're short you have to be really, really cool. But it still makes me uncomfortable to be taller than anyone.

Being worried about your height is just stupid. It's like being worried about your penis, you can't change it so why stress.

You already know the answer to this question. Well, that or you have had a lobotomy. Either way, this thread is stupid and so are you.

It doesn't really matter to me. Personally i don't mind if a guy's my height (i'm 5' 5") but sometimes it's nice to date someone a lot taller than me (current boyfriend= 6' 1"), but truthfully I like sex better with guys closer to my height.... sometimes it gets awkward with guys taller than me.

I'm a 16 year old guy, 5'10", so I'm taller than most girls still, and average height for my age. Also, I really like shorter girls around 5 feet, and I am fairly tall for my complexion.

I find it only mildly important. Really, it's not that fun not being able to reach upwards to hug the guy. (Which can go for both really tall guys or shorter guys)

But then again, height doesn't matter if the guy has a great personality.

Eh, I'm 6'4, and of heavy build, yet I just got my first girlfriend a couple months ago (I was 19 at the time, by the way... Yeah yeah, flame away at the fact), so I being manly has nothing to do about it, atleast around here. I can tear apart most everyone around where I live, or atleast those who are dating the 'hot chicks', which I don't care for in the first place anyways (Snobby things.) But anyways, hieght has nothing to do with it. It's all about the looks (Most women are very shallow about this kind of thing... I guess I lucked out with my babe...)

My boyfriend is 6'. I think that's around the perfect height.

I've dated men at 6'5", way too tall, and men at 5'8", way too short.

Short men should definitely turn on the Napoleon complex and make up for it with a dominating personality.

I learned this in sociology today. Being taller than your girlfriend is just another 'gender role' set up by society, to portray maculinity. If you(and the girl you're dating) can break the barriers of the 'norms' of society, it won't effect the relationship. If she's uncomfortable with it, chances are she's influenced by society's views a bit too much.

For me , I'd rather date someone who's more immune to what society wants.

Most societal influences are still largely based around evolutionary principles.

By that retarded logic that rules out every shred of evolutionary science ever devised, it also stands to reason that not wanting to date ugly and obese people is simply a product of society's views, so you, being a dumbass "noncomformist" should want to date them, too. Of course, what you fail to realize is that we have societal pressures for a very useful reason, that is, to make those that are more likely to be genetically weak less likely to reproduce. Of course, given the state of Western society, this is largely ignored, but at least in terms of sexual attraction it has been left largely unhampered.

First of all, I realize why we have sexual selection. I'm not saying to choose the ugliest, most unhealthy person as a mate. You've over assumed what my actual point was. As humans, we were also given the 'evolutionary' ability to reason, and choose. Not choosing a girlfriend because she's a couple inches taller than you, will not cause the human race to slide down a slope of 'weak gene mixing' actually, being short has it's evolutionary perks too. Take a look into it, being shorter(and having a stockier build) is actually selected FOR in cold climates, and against in others. This is because less surface area=less energy spent keeping warm. In warmer climates, its the opposite.

Also, we're both biological and cultural beings. This means we're not merely apes, choosing a mate soley based on their 'strong traits', while discarding others for 'weaker' traits. We can choose a person because they've got a great personality, similar values, goals, etc. I agree, 10's date 10's , 1's date 1's. But you could be the best looking guy on earth, and still be genetically weak (in your geographical location, and based on your envioronment).

As an example, we'll name the best looking guy in the world "Bob". Bob's got everything a (stereotype) woman wants. He's tall, strong, aggressive, the works. Except "Bob" carries a bad trait. It's not on the surface, but "Bob" has sickle cell anemoia. Bob lives in Canada, so the (selected for) trait of not being susceptable to malaria doesn't really help Bob.

Maybe, if Bob lived in Asia, near rice patties(where misqitoes(sp? I'm too tired to check) fester, and malaria is common) Bob would do great. This is due to the fact malaria cannot influence a person with the sickle-cell trait. But, Bob chooses a mate, and has offspring. Bob passes his genetic mutation of sickle cell onto his child, which, unluckily, carries the trait. Bob's mate also was a carrier of the trait, and due to random chance, their offspring is also born with this disease. Bob, even though he's a great looker, is not contributing much to a 'stronger' offspring.

So, choosing a mate, based purely on looks- is not always the way to go. Especially, as we are becomming less biological creatures, and becomming moreso cultural.

Don't get me wrong, selection is there for a reason. But don't not date a person, because you feel 'awkward' that she's a bit taller. She could pass the 'tall' gene onto the offspring, still contributing to a (more selected for, in your reasoning) gene pool.

No, I just see it as hypocritical that you would want to disregard things such as height but not want to disregard things such as actual beauty in the form of facial symmetry, bodytype, etc.

Well, to me, that's another complete topic. To be sexually aroused, I have to have physical attraction to a person. But, at the same time, I would still date a girl who I found very interesting, intelligent, and strong willed(a few of my personal turn-ons), even if she wasn't a 8,9, or 10 in my book. I admit that even I still am controlled by SOME of socities 'norms' on what is beautiful. But, often enough, my friends won't find women attractive that are absolutely gorgeous to me. To each his own, on the physical attraction scale. The stereotypical big breasted, nice ass, pretty hair.. doesn't quite do it for me. I look for character on a girl's face, something that draws me in. That doesn't mean I don't see some pornstars and think "damn, she's hot", but looks won't be the first(and only) thing that directs me in a relationship.

Maybe it's ugly-duck syndrome for me. Maybe I've just been raised to look deeper than physical traits. I will admit, I'm not completely free from the shackles of society. Hopefully, one day.. one day.

Ps. Please don't assume I'm saying that you are(shackled), because I totally see your point. But, I am just trying to make the point that we can free ourselves, if we try hard enough, and look deep enough.

I agree with you to an extent but personally having a male partner that is taller or the same height as you to be much more comfortable physically. I do like my boyfriends to be masculine to a degree although, no denying that.

I'm also fairly tall for a female as it is. At 6 foot I have, in the past, have had times where I've really hated being tall and been really selfconcious. I am much more comfortable with myself now and I enjoy being the tall one most of the time.

In my case, even as a guy, I find height key to physical attraction. When I meet a girl taller than me I can see a beautiful face and mind, yet still not find her physically attractive. I don't care about if people would snicker if I dated a girl taller than me, the fact still is that I just don't find them attractive.

And I totally understand you for that. Some people just find it 'awkward' leaning in 10 inches for a kiss. Or holding hands with the arms superextended just so they can walk down the street together. Not everyone though, and that's the only point I was trying to make. Sometimes, love conquers all.

But that's only one person, one opinion. The response could be different to anyone. Height may matter to some, whilst to others- not so much. It all depends on the person.

Yeah, once you break that 6'5 barrier it's sort of freakish. My friend got asked all the time by strangers and little kids about his height and he was only 6'4. But who cares, you can kick anyone's ass in the room and that's gotta make bitches wet in your presence.

Since when can ridicliously tall people kick anyones ass? Especially if their tall and lanky?

I'm about 5'6-5'7, and I can get girls. I've hooked up with plenty of tall girls too. Once even a girl who was four years older then me, and a good 5-6 inches taller.

LET ME SET THIS STRAIGHT: Women are biologically attracted to taller men. Or at the very least men the same height or taller than the women. Most women find men 6'0 tall to be the perfect height. Men 6'0 and taller biologically stand out to women. Some women say "they would rather date a tall stupid guy than a short smart guy". Women are human and still have the instinct to seek alpha males (the providers).

Being shorter doesn't necessarily halt your ability to get women. Being shorter and muscular greatly improves your odds of mateing with women. Being shorter will hold you back some, you need to make up in personality what you lack in height. Some women may not care what height you are.
