Valentines Day
Its the 14th of Feb-25 days away. (I had to be prompted as well, so I figured you guys will)
I'm still of the opinion its a commercial holiday, and its really another Birthday for her. (along with the anniversary)
But I have to do something. We are in Reading on the actually day for a Uni open day. With her Mum-what fun
I'll most likely do something before/after the actual day.
Apparently the key factor to any gift is the 'effort' put into it she told me.
We are both seventeen, any ideas as to what I should get her/do?

Re: Valentines Day
Yea I just realized Valentines Day is coming up.. I'm not sure what I'm getting my girlfriend. Probably one of the Ridiculously Huge "Teddy Bears" and a card and chocolate.

Yeah, get some of the ass n titties. Take her out somewhere as a present, even though it's a week day. Skip the next day of school, given you are in school.

well, 6th form college. same difference.
I was thinking about a restaurant or something.
Apparently I've played the 'box of chocolates' card too much. Drat.
I need something that is bursting with romance, originality and effort - and I'm at a lose as to what to do. Skipping school would be easy enough, its just after exams and I can say I'm still on an Open Day thing.

Thats exactly my thought! I find them rather depressing. You put them on display in the middle of the table to "Brighten a Room". You just watch them slow wilt and die.
I've never gotten her flowers before though, so maybe I could. She isn't of the same opinion on flowers.

Hey, you never know. The reciever might be some emo kid.
For all you know, late at night they could be speaking to their flowers.
"I'm projecting my pain onto you! Now I'm going to watch you die while I cry and my eyeliner runs down my cheeks because it's the cool thing to do!"

Re: Valentines Day
Please, restore my faith in the males of this species and please tell me not all of you beleive that valentines day is simply a time to buy your girl stuff?
I've allways thought Valentines day was a special day when you do something slightly out of the ordinary for/with your boyfriend/girlfriend, just to celebrate the fact you're together, and have a life together.
I certainly dont think it's just a day my boyfriend might buy me things.
Apart from anything, he's broke as fuck and I earn four times what he does,so.
Aslong as he remembers, I'll be happy. Aslong as we get to spend some time together, I'll be happy.
From my perspective though, it's a bit different, because I know the majority of males dont like too much mushy gushy love stuff, So I might buy him something special just to say thankyou to him for being around.
What on earth might a guy like for a valentines day gift? I'd buy him a flat screen monitor as he wanted but he just bought one, Perhaps some warhammer stuff.. allthough that might come across as a selfish gift as I'm the only person who plays againt him regularly.
Males of totse, what would you want as a gift on the 14th?

Re: Valentines Day
^Bearing that in mind, doesn't valentines day seem like the Girlfriend's second Birthday?
Anyways, I have an idea!
The only thing is I have no idea whether the idea is any good or whether I'm capable of doing it.
I could try and write her a song.
I play guitar-have been for the last year nearly. But I've never actually written a 'song'. Just riffs and tunes etc. As for singing-my voice is flat as a pancake, and although people don't realise it-trying to sing and play at the same time is very difficult. Hmmmm. Any thoughts?
>Oh and does that restore any faith yoyobek? I'm assuming your female. So I'd love to know your opinion.

Re: Valentines Day
My parents are away the week of valentine's day, and I took the day off work, so I'll be cooking my boyfriend a nice dinner with all his favorite foods and having a nice romantic evening.
I'm not a fan of flowers really either, however I LOVE orchids. If you plan on getting your girl flowers, find out her favorite, don't just go with roses. Roses kinda suck.

I asked her that once. I also said, "What do you think of orchids?" because I'd seen them and they look kinda of cool. Different from the conventional flower image of big bright petals concentrically around the centre bit.(completely forgotten what its called)
She said "Oi! You trying to get rid of me! Orchids are used for funerals!" That kind of put me off buying flowers. I don't know if shes right or not, but it seems that buying the wrong flowers could be disastrous. And Everytime I ask her what her favourite is, she just shrugs.

I dont know..
Whilst valentines day is a special day, I reckon couples should do special things for each other all year round.
So if you want to make a song for her.. would you ever consider doing it *before* v Day?
I'll write more later, boyfriend is asking me to play dawn of war with him. Perhaps as his gift to me on Vday he'll let me win

Gee. I think that anything more than a card and a small box of quality chocolates is way too much for Valentines Day.

I know what you mean. I always seems to me like you are permitted to live normally with your partner and show affection on the following dates:
Which is a pretty fucked up way of doing it.
I've considered doing it before, she's even asked me to. Its just I reckon it would take awhile and haven't found the time to get round to doing it. That and I'm not exactly confident on my abilities, too shy for my own good.
Anyways.
I could write a poem I suppose. I've done it a fair few times. Sometimes a line or verse of a poem just comes to me and the rest flows. Usually I live in a constant writers block though.
I was just trying to think of something interesting to do. Its so hard to think of things to do for you women when your so easy to offend and upset; no matter what we men do or do not do. *sigh*
A girl that plays DoW? No fair. I want one. My girlfriend is always complaining I play computer games too much. She hates them.

I've never heard of orchids being used at funerals. Wikipedia also mentions nothing about it, and wiki is always right...
So apparently your girl doesn't like flowers. There's a million other choices.

Re: Valentines Day
I in all honestly hate valentines day so fucking much and yes I have a girlfriend. The day I find is meaningless and just another day to me, why do I need some holiday to buy my girl chocolate/flowers and do something sweet for her? Blah, I already do enough sweet shit for her without needing a cooperate holiday to ruin everything. FUCK VALENTINES DAY!

My advice? Suprise her.. do everything you were thinking of doing, do it the day before.
She'll never it see it coming, be totally impressed.
Cook her a meal. Flowers, what have you.
Guranteed the next day she'll be trying to return favours.

Re: Valentines Day
Valentines day is a great opportunity to entertain 'that fantasy' each girl holds deep inside.
The romantic day, white roses, ice skating, picnic on the hill with a bottle of champagne.
Be creative, take charge of it, it's your chance to make another human blissfuly happy.

Re: Valentines Day
I think alot of valentines day is important to girls because it's confirmation that they're in a PROPER relationship, and it's real and not just a fling.
I'd be hurt if my boyfriend forgot valentines day, not because I want him to get me stuff, but because I want him to acknowledge the day that's meant to be for couples to show off their..coupleleyness.

TRUTH!!!!! I was in a relationship last year during V-day, and the douchebag didn't even call me to say "happy valentine's day." NOT EVEN A PHONE CALL. Cunt. Hope he rots in hell...
Current boyfriend though, brought it up like, at the beginning of January. He was all worried about getting me stuff. I think I've calmed him down to just flowers though. Or a flower. Orchid...
But yes, yoyo put it best.

Re: Valentines Day
You guys have gotten me to thinking...that if I am ever rich I am constantly going to keep my mansion decorated with beautiful flowers that an elite team of gardeners will stealthily replace each night I am sleeping, so it always looks fresh and enlightening.

Re: Valentines Day
This is like the third Valentine's Day thread I've seen this week.
I don't even know if me and this guy are dating, and I'm not sure if he really knows... so I don't even know what to do about Valentine's Day. Hmmm.

I can't stand it, because I've always been alone for V-day. Especially at my high school, which makes a freakin huge deal out of it. I think I'll skip this year, I can't take that much sappiness packed into one day for a fourth year in a row.

Re: Valentines Day
I'm thinking asking a few girls out for a meal before Valentines Day in an Italian restraunt. One that does great food, that has a £3.95 Pizza or Pasta deal on some days, yet still has a good aptmosphere.
Valentines Night, I can go drinking and toking with the lads, pick up any girls worth a go.
