Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
Do you think younger kids have the capability to fall in love? Do you think its more infatuation at that time?
Personally, I dont think you can love that young, but what are your opinions on it

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
My personal definition of love I learned from my favorite author, Robert Heinlein. He said that "Love is when someone else's happiness is essential to your own".
This definition makes a lot of sense, and I really like it because it can be used for family, lovers, or even just really good friends.
So yes, absolutely, a 15 year old can experience true love. But if that love will last is unlikely at best.
He also said things like "There is no limit to the amount of people you can grow to love, and if you had eternity you could end up loving every good and decent person in the world".
I agree with him a lot.

Doesn't happen that often. Kids lie to themselves and make their small, meaningless relationships seem like mountains.
Fuck it.

Sure. Why not?
Who can say a 15 year old is more or less capable of love than your average 30 year old?
Considering grown ups seem to fuck things up alot themselves, I dont see why 15 year olds cant have a go.

I'm sixteen in less than a month and I agree that we do blow things out of proportion.
I've been going out with a girl for just over 2 weeks. I want to spend all my time with her, all my money on her and hold her all the time. I don't know what I'm doing and I have no idea what I'm feeling. I wouldn't know love or lust.

That has nothing to do with your age and everything to do with experience level.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
i'd say so. while some people of the age are extremely immature, others (few in number) are intimately aware of their emotions, and can know what they feel in detail.
though, as someone else said, its unlikely that the love will survive the test of time.

Love is a sefless compassion from one to another. I say a 15 year old can love, but many times will confuse their emotions to be something else, they aren't any less capable...just dont have the experience to know what love is...I figure anyway.

Sure anyone can love at any age, (Being realistic of course) but the problem is that it may be very hard to actually analyze the love from lust...Trust me, from personal experience, I have gone through this many times, matter of fact, I still do...

I fell in love at age 13.. and all these years later I'm still in love with the same person. I think it was love from the start, as it was then, and looking back, but it probably got stronger as the years went on.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
When I was 5 years old I met a little boy in my class who I was in love with. We were inseparable for 4 years until his parents moved away. The day he moved away our parents took us to the park together, we exchanged toys. He gave me a Ramona Reindeer doll and I gave him a stuffed shark I'd gotten in Big Sur because when we'd seen the shark exhibit on field trip at the science museum he'd said they were his favorite animal. We were both inconsolable. I sobbed for a solid month. We wrote each other letters for two years afterwards but lost touch when he went to boarding school.
Cheers,
Lost

Sounds like my cousin. Been with her boyfriend (now husband) since 14 and broke up a few times but always got back together. They are in their early to mid 20s now.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
15 year olds define love as 'seeing you makes me happy'.
Teenagers are generally pretty selfish, and they're more concerned with how they feel then anything else. I think real love is sacrificing a part of your own life and/or happiness to make someone else happy.
Yeah, there are some exceptions, but as a general rule...I'd say no.

They can be in love, but to have a serious relationship it'll take more than that. When you're at that age the chance you'll have a really long relationship is unlikely. Most kids are just not.. mature enough.

well i think it totally depends on how mature the person is. see i am only 16 years old and in love with my boyfriend. and i always have people thinking that im like 18 or 19 because i act a lot more mature and responsible then most sixteen year old girls. but i just think you have to feel a little heart break before the heart can love that just my saying.

i believe kids can love, just cant be IN love..
for example..i LOVE my best friend more than anything or anyone, doenst mean im IN LOVE with her..
i just dun think that kids have had enough relationships, to determine all the qualities they like about people (and not until they have found someone who has ALL these qualities, can they be "in love"

Depends on what you think love is. If you are content with being with the same person forever, why cant you call that love?
I havent changed my views on love since I was 14 (im 21 now) and I highly doubt anything will change in the future.
Can I make her happy?
Can she make me happy?
Call it love.

Yeah, he talked a lot about relationships in, not surprisingly, Time Enough For Love. If you want to know more about what he thought on relationships, read it. Of course he also did in Stranger in a Strange Land a lot also.
But my favorite books by him have got to be The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Starship Troopers, got to love self-sacrifice and libertarian revolution.

ouch... see, this can be taken 2 ways: some people i know are pretty much the same way, by choice. have never dated, and are very picky/don't want to deal with the shit their friends go through. the other side is that you'll be less informed/experienced.
to digress from this point, i think that as one matures, theyre appreciation for others does as well, making the love they feel different in degrees. no one can messure the degrees, but you deffinetaly feel different from one love to the next. i know i have.
one thing ive never understood is how people just say that they love theyre parents: they never really had a choice of parents did they? so is that love forced? it could just be a word, though im sure in time it is the case, especially after you move out.
the one thing that is deadly is to make beleive your in love, cause that just causes a world of hurt mainly for the person who says they are. this has happened to me twice, always on the receiving end (meaning, the chick tells me they love me, when i know, and im sure they did that they dont). be goddamn sure of what you say sometimes, those are powerfull words and can make or break a persons world.

True love is what you feel when you know nothing but feelings (no real mental part)
Just like true devotion is when you are a part without having to know anything, just giving your life for the cause

Finding the right girl could be compared to riding a bike. You need to start with the one that has training wheels, and eventually move on, take a couple falls, before you get the hang of it.
Crappy analogy I know, but I hope you get the point I'm trying to make. You need to be with multiple girls to really find what you are looking for. And, it takes time, nobody just hops on a bike and rides without falling their first time. Then, you can screw around a little before you settle down and get an old man recumbant bike that isn't as much fun, but is meant for the long haul.

i just got off the phone with my girlfriend...and we just had the most mature hour long conversation ive ever had...she is almost more mature then I am.she raised extremely valid points and is/has dealt with things i would never have imagined when i was fifteen.i know she REALLY loves me and IS capable of loving me.and i know since dating her SHE has helped ME mature...not the other way around.so yes 15 year olds can love, and i am VERY confident on saying yes.i love my girl and always will no matter what.

Both great. My fav will always be Stranger, simply for Jubal Harshaw. Greatest character ever.
Starship troopers always makes me think of that sad, sad excuse for a movie . Even if it is a fantastic novel.

damn fine books, the lot of them. I love how a good chunk of his novels all fit into the same alternate universe, yet sometimes have nothing to do with each other except for small references. Seems like it would take a hell of a lot of work.

I can see right now that there is no way the relationship is going to survive the transition to a long distance one when i go to college...so i figure save us each some pain and end it now so we dont go on and fall deeper in love then have to break it off down the road where it'll hurt more. I dont want to show up to college depressed. Is this a bad idea? Should i stick with her until the bitter end? There are several other girls that i could have RIGHT NOW and have it be a purely fun/messing around relationship until i go to college. I really dont want to have this kind of committment only to know that i'm going to end up breaking it anyway.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
Yeah, kids can love at 15.
I fell in love when I was 14, I was with her for over two years, until last month. So yeah I think that being in Love at such a young age is possible, but it isn't very common because of how selfish and stupid people at my age are.

I cant say that they cant, because I dont know that for a fact. For the most part, 15 year olds dont know who they are. If you dont know who you are, you can't love somebody else, atleast not to the full meaning of the word.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
my girlfriend and i are in love, not the kinda love that 13 year old kidiots feel for each other, but real love. she's a year older than me, im 15. being apart for a few days is horrible, when she went to new guinea in the summer for 3 months, it's was hell.
in reference to the second poster, im like that, if she's nt happy, then neither am i.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
I first starting going out with my girlfriend when we were fourteen. We are still together, three years later. I'm not sure whether the love we shared when we were fourteen is the same as it is now. We grew up. Its definitely 'Amor Real' now but who knows what it was before. But I think its a fifteen year old is capable of true love.
I think it happens over time. It was weird at first, like I had a new friend. But over the years she became my other half. Its hard to explain. She then became my 'girlfriend'; and now I would consider her my 'soul mate' I guess. Another thing was although I was still very attached to her at fourteen I still couldn't help notice other girls and think impure thoughts. But I can't do that anymore. I just don't find other women attractive. Its weird. I find faults too easily.
But anyways. yes I believe a fifteen year old has the capacity to truly someone, and I believe I did at fifteen.
As for what love is...
To me, love is when you couldn't imagine living any other way. When you can't imagine what life would be like without him/her. The thoughts just don't come to you.
Another meaning would be when thinking about something bad happening to them, just as a fleeting thought upsets you; and makes you feel sick inside. It could be instigated from anything-something you read, or heard or saw happen to someone else; or a completely random, morbid thought.

You can find someone who's perfect for you, and who has every single quality you could possibly desire, without knowing what those qualities are beforehand.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
I'm 15 and I'm in love. People underestimate us so much. I understand why though. There are so many idiots that are my age. All they do is cuss and do drugs and get wasted and have sex. And why do they do it? They think it is cool. Sorry I'm starting to ramble but my point is that they outnumber the intelligent ones 10 to 1. I know I'm in love because, as someone said, I couldn't imagine it any other way. I'm glad some of you see things from my point of view.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
I find it interesting how people keep equating maturity with the capacity to love... Does a person need to be mature in order to love? emotionally mature, probably, but physically, even mentally? I personally don't think so. Most relationships seem to fall apart after a while at that age, but what's to say that they can't find what they're looking for before they even realize what it is? i think it's rare, like picking up a dart and getting a bullseye your first time, because it involves finding someone emotionally compatible with you on your first/near to first try.
But back to my point, does maturity need to be there in order for love to be? i know quite a few adults who are anything but mature and very much in love, so the only difference there between them and the 15 year olds is age.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
yeah, know some "romantic" people who are younger than me and im 15 (no flaming please). what does age have to do with anything anyway. a chick i know asked me at lunch how old i was i said how old i was and she was shocked. i mean wtf i have had sex(shitty but still sex) and when i have had a girlfriend i was in love i guess you could say.
Edit:forget everything i said what i define as love is being with the person makes me happy, and i also do what i can to make sure they are aslo happy, fuck i am tired so thats all i have.

Re: Think kids can love at a young age......say 15?
I've been with my girl for about 5 years. I'm 16. In the beginning was it love? Uhh, no. I wanted to wait until we grew up (7th grade, haha) but she bribed me with some gummy worms. I gave in.
Didn't really talk to one another seriously until the 7th grade anyways, had some rough times, and during those times when she most definately did not love me, I made them the most miserable days of my life. I learned a lot, and I knew that the word love was missused, but my ego wouldnt let me be the one to do it. So, I turned a very strong actraction into love, and the statement 'I am not happy if she is not happy' unfortunately applies. This time of year is rough.
She doesn't love me the way I love her, I'm not being condesending, she even said that. Personally, if I ment the world to someone but I wasn't mature enough to handle that, I would be scared shitless.
Am I being melodramatic? Yes. But, I love her and even though I am a complete tool for her, I'm not giving up. I have nothing better to do.
So, if I were a teenager I would avoid love, just have fun. But if you happen to fall in love, it's a nice ride.
