I get the shot every 3 months. They tell you to get it every three months so you don't get pregnant. The shots effects overlap purposely. You don't get a new shot just because the old one "wore off" you get the new shot so that it DOESN'T wear off.

They also warned me when I started to get the shot that after getting off of it, it was very likely that I wouldn't be able to get pregnant for up to a year and a half, and not to expect that I will be able to have a child right after getting off of the shot.
