Default Learning to dance.

Yes, I understand that this has nothing to do with S&A, but this is basically the most mature forum on totse.

I've never been to a school dance, and I am curious. Though I have absolutely no idea how to dance.

I assume that they will play whatever music thats usually played at a high school dance.

Help is appreciated.

I'm from the UK, where we don't indulge in such niceties, so this isn't going to be that useful sorry.

Is it like a formal occasion, as opposed to a "club night" sort of thing?

Either is pretty much easy to blag, as long as you keep things simple.

Club dancing: Monkey see, monkey do. Don't move your feet too much. Move to the beat. Remember the scene from "Hitch"?

Slow Dancing: as far as I'm aware you can get away with just sort of... stepping back and forth, in time with the music. Obviously there's a little more to it than that, but unless your school does spotlight flamenco dances, it's not exactly rocket science.

Go to a class if you like, but bear in mind that you won't learn "normal-person" dancing there. You'll learn pirhouettes and double-steps and such. Just go with the flow.

Edit: What I said about slow dancing, as is what I expect will be the normal thing at "school dances", goes for couples. Do people go to those things without a date? Clue me up here, I don't want to rely too much on stereotypes from film and tv.

No, the prom isn't just an American thing. Mine was lame though. We were double booked with the British Lions rugby team, and there's no way we were winning that one. They put us in a marquee. A fucking tent.

Anyways...

Random People: Club Dancing. I can't teach you that, and neither can anyone else here. You just need to go out and see.

Date at a Prom: I think really the upshot of this is that you just need to get up there and start, even if you don't really know what you're doing. How else are you going to learn?

Personally, I wouldn't be doing either. Why dance with moody teenage bitches when there are drunken teachers to talk to?

The only good things about my prom were:

1) Me getting the money shot of the vice-headmaster (principal) dancing like a retard on amphetamines and posting it on my website...

2) My 23 year old english teacher giving me the "fuck me" eyes... Yeh, that could have been awkward. But I could talk my way out of a leglock. Come to think of it, that's probably why she likes me...

Anyway, this has been fun.

Remember: Get drunk, but not too drunk. Don't assault the teachers (it sounds fun, but take it from me, it never ends well). Take a camera: If someone does something stupid, I want to see it.
