The date rape thread
I heard this pretty cool song by Sublime called 'Date rape'. It's a funny song but a serious topic..
"Let me tell you about a girl I know
had a drink about an hour ago.
Sitting in a corner by herself in a bar in downtown Hell.
She heard a noise and she looked through the door.
And saw a man she'd never seen before.
Light skin light blue eyes a double chin and a plastic smile.
Well her eyebrow raised as he walked through the door
And took an empty seat next to her at the bar.
"My brand new car is parked right outside. How'd ya like to go for a ride?"
And she said."Wait a minute I have to think."
He said, "That's fine. May I please buy you a drink"
One drink turned into 3 or 4 and they left and got into his car
and they drove away someplace real far.
Now babe the time has come.
How'd ya like to have a little fun?
And she said." If we could only please be on our way, I will not run."
That's when things got out of control.
She didn't want to, he had his way.
She said, "Let's Go"
He said, "No Way!"
Come on babe it's your lucky day.
Shut your mouth, were gonna do it my way.
Come on baby don't be afraid,
if it wasn't for date rape I'd never get laid.
He finished up and he started the car
He turned around and drove back to the bar.
He said."Now baby don't be sad, in my opinion you weren't half-bad."
She picked up a rock.,threw it at the car, hit him in the head, now his got a big scar.
Come on party people won't you listen to me.
Date Rape Stylie.
The next day she went to her drawer, looked up her local attorney at law,
went to the phone and filed the police report and then she took the guy's ass to court.
Well, the day he stood in front of the judge he screamed, " She lies that little slut!"
The judge knew that he was full of shit and he gave him 25 years
And now his heart is filled with tears.
That night in jail it was getting late.
He was butt-raped by a large inmate, and he screamed.
But the guards paid no attention to his cries.
That's when things got out of control.
The moral of the date rape story, it does not pay to be drunk and horny.
But that's the way it had to be.
They locked him up and threw away the key.
Well, I can't take pity on men of his kind,
even though he now takes it in the behind.
That's the way it had to be.
They locked him up and threw away the key.
Well, I can't take pity on men of his kind,
even though he now takes it in the behind.
DATE RAPE
She didn't want to TAKE IT!"
Now in this situation, what would your oppinion be?
I'm confused on this topic. I beleive the girl was fucking stupid for accepting a drink from a guy she had no interest in, and even more stupid for getting into a car with the guy.Perhaps she was asking for it?
But then, he was pretty horrible to force himself on her, but perhaps he'd convinced himself that she wanted him, as she'd gone along with him in his car?
But then, as the song says, she didnt want to take it!
People of totse, what are your oppinions on the generic 'date rape'?
It'd be cool if this could stay flame and soap box free..

Re: The date rape thread
Everyone knows not to accept drinks from strangers, and to always be alert. Date rape happens, but many women can't distinguish it from drunken sex, and cry rape.
Obviously, if totally intoxicated, someone is vunerable to rape, but I hate how much women tote the rape card.
My friend got drunk beyond any state of control twice, and a man had his way with her. She didn't like it, but she's not psychologically scarred, she was young, but it was kind of her fault, getting so drunk she couldn't speak out against it, let alone get up.
Of course it was utterly wrong of this man (way older, should have known better) to take advantage of her, but she doesn't go around looking grave when people mention rape, and has what I consider to be the right attitude.
It's hard to explain, but we both know rape is bad.
So is drinking till you lose control in front of people you don't trust.

So we're in agreement that the rapee is pretty stupid to get so drunk they lose the powers of rational thought, but also the rapist is evil, or atleast very unpleasnt, to take advantage of someone fucked up then?

Re: The date rape thread
I've had my drink spiked and its no fun at all. It happened to me at a party, but I was lucky to be around my mates at the time who knew I was only on my thrid glass of wine also, so they knew something was up. I kinda just passed out with hardly any memory from the night before. It's like a big night drunk but x5.
Girls who cry rape when they're intoxicated and it was consental at the time are fucking idiots, god I can't stand them. Shame on guys though for often picking out the drunkest girls because they're more vunrable.
The sad thing about it is that its often hard to tell if the girl was only drunk or if she had actually been slipped something because they both have similar effects.

If you go out drinking in public areas you really should accept there's a high probability it will happen. I don't think it's right for people to rape each other but...oh hell I hate people who go out and get drunk, I hope you all die.

There are some bad people out there, but some things are just common sense.. I think my friend sees it as a lesson learnt, no harm was done.. although in the eyes of the law, it was full on rape.

I used to know guys that liked date rape. I didn't like it then and I don't like it now. I've known girls that have cried a river to me because some guy slipped it into their drinks and into them.

Re: The date rape thread
Generally, the victim in this kinda crime is going to be your typical dumb blonde.
Someone kinda stupid, who will happily take a drink without question and get drunk without thought of the consequences.
I won't say that it'd serve the stupid bitch right, as thats like blaming a rich person for being the victim of a burglary.
I do think there has to be a small element of blame left on the victim though.

Re: The date rape thread
I have slightly different views on rape.
Theres a certain level of stupidity that warrants rape. Girls in clubs go there to play guys. They flirt outrageously to get guys to buy them drinks, even though they have no interest in most of the guys anyways. And at the end of the night, its 'so long'.
Taking drinks from strangers is stupid enough, but to get into their car and go somewhere with them...well. In most social circles, thats pretty much agreeing to have sex. And even if she didnt get in the car agreeing to have sex, she at least knows that thats what the guy wants, or he wouldnt be there.
I lost my train of thought...so I'll just summarize. Honestly, I hate rape. I could never do it, and god help the man that confides that sort of thing to me. But sometimes, I'm not going to say they deserve it, but I just dont have any sympathy for them. And this doesnt make the guy who did it any less evil.

I disagree. If your house is loaded with valuables moreso than a typical person (tv, xbox, computer), and you don't take sufficient measures to secure them, well then you're just stupid.
But you and Silent have it right about rape. It's bad any way it goes, but if the rapee just opens themselves up for it, then I have no sympathy. You should -always- have your head on a swivel and be aware of your surroundings.

Re: The date rape thread
I don't see how you can say a girl deserves no sympathy for being date raped because she flirts with people in a club.
Most of the time flirting doesn't lead to sex. It's casual, a lot of girls, as irritating as they are, don't realise how flirty they are. It's not as though they've promised sex, they've fluttered their eyelashes and you've bought them a drink.
Of course you have to be on your guard, just in case. But making a mistake once, god forbid, letting your guard down and not constantly protecting your drink, doesn't mean you deserve to be raped.
All that goes for genuine rape cases. The girls who get wasted and fuck a randomer and call rape because they regretted it in the morning deserve... I don't know what they deserve. Maybe jackketch could work some of his broken bottle magic.

Flirting has nothing to do with it.
Most of us were saying that the girls who get so tossed they don't know what they're doing, or make stupid decisions like picking up a drink they left unattended for 15 minutes or getting into a car with a guy they've never met, just open themselves up for it.
The most sympathy I'll have is "Damn, that sucks. Are you ok?" because you acted a fool and got burned. Do you take candy from strangers too?

*agrees* My friends go out and get drunk on any little excuse, and I hate it. I don't hope they die because I know them... but it sure seems like a kinda dumb thing to do, to me.

I don't understand your logic. If a woman says she was raped then she was raped. End of story. A rapist is no different to someone who'll shoot you in the head because he wants to steal your car/rob your house. A rapist is ultimitely selfish with no conscience or thought for another human being. Are you going to stop driving because there are people like this in the world?
A small percentage of the population are psychopaths, that's life. But, why are you excusing their behaviour?

Bullshit! Immature teenage girls who are physically ready for sex but not emotionally, getting drunk and having consentual sex but then reconsidering the next day, while hung-over and facing the reality of having to tell mommy that she had unprotected sex... this is the problem at hand.

All I know is that if you like a man enough to be having sex with him, then the next day you'd be thrilled to be recounting the previous night's exploits. It just doesn't add up. The tiny proportion of non-genuine rapes are obviuously not helping matters. But they are not the norm.
The shame and stigma connected with rape means that genuine rape cases are unreported/abandoned over 90% of the time.

Wrong. Some women feeling regretful or seeking attention use crying wolf, or in this case, rape, to gain attention.
quote:A rapist is no different to someone who'll shoot you in the head because he wants to steal your car/rob your house. A rapist is ultimitely selfish with no conscience or thought for another human being.
Blanket statements! I doubt either of us are entirely certain of the mental stability of a sexual offender.
quote:But, why are you excusing their behaviour?
No one's excusing, they're admonishing those who don't take the proper precaution to protect themselves. At no point did anyone say 'she's asking for it, it's not the rapists's fault'.
quote:Originally posted by Marchesa:

But it happens a lot. Picking girls up at clubs doesn't involve much emotional connection at all. Hell, there's entire bars dedicated to men and women just looking for a casual fuck.

About a month ago a girl walked into my dorm room talking about how she wanted to have sex with me, right then. I had never seen her before in my life. I was very confused at the time, and indecisive, but I didn't want to do anything with her, and eventually she left.

Re: The date rape thread
See, I got oposing viewpoints on this subject.
On one hand, you have the idea that all females that say " I said 'no!' " say it before or during the sex, and say it clearly. On the other hand, you have the idea where someone wakes up , looks over, and goes....."OH FUCK!" . They consider it a long while, selfishly, and determine the only way to get away with their names is to claim rape.
AND ANOTHER THING, why is it that any time the word 'rape' is used, people assume the victim is female? This truly bothers me.
Think about it, females have a serious advantage in the eyes of society. Most people will believe a woman over a man. WOMAN- the danger of going out into those venues is very real, and you know the possible outcomes(pun intended). Many date-rape confessors have had the same arguements, "she has been teasing me for X amount of time". Don't cheat the game, you'll pay the piper.

Man youre just making yourself look even more stupid.
Unless you have been stuck in a bubble all your life and never seen into the real world then you cant have this kind of view.
Firstly, pleasing her has nothing to do with it, if you go out, flirt, get drunk and have sex then regret it the next morning it doesnt have anything to do with pleasing them.
And secondly, i have been accused of rape or actually she coined it "forced it upon me"
We had known each other a while, were attracted to each other and we slept together once, we used a condom but she lied and said she was on the pill, the next few days come around and she tells me she has a boyfriend and because she had to go and get the morning after pill she lied to him saying i had "forced sex upon her"
my point here is, people lie, people do things and then regret it after, people do things and don't regret it after but lie to others to protect themselves.
Grow up and open you're damn eyes.

This is reality though.
It shouldn't be this way, but it is!
Therefor, we must deal with how it is.
Women should never accept drinks from those who they do not know. That's it.
If you get drunk, you know your judgment will be altered.
Saying you've done no wrong is like saying:
I'm choosing to speed at 100 mph. Anyone with half a brain knows you're seriously risking an accident... and then you hit and kill someone.
You knew what you were doing before you ever hit someone.
If you're capable of choosing to take the drink, you're capable of CHOOSING to have sex.
You must separate intoxicated and incapacitated.
If a woman can choose to walk around, talk with folks and drink, she is making choices.
If a woman is falling down, not with it, passing out, then she is obviously incapacitated. (This is where it's rape)
Back to intoxicated:
The effects of taking another drink can be worse than those of having sex.
Laugh, I know, it "never happens", but it does. People get alcohol poisoning... and it's effects are terrible.
If you're capable of weighing the potential effects that taking said drink COULD bring, you're capable of having sex.
Why don't people blame those who supplies massive amounts of booze and then someone winds up with alcohol poisoning... What a friend... what a person!
You can get STDs or pregnancy "fixed" with treatment and plan B/abortion (not telling women that they must get one, just it's an option)
If you have alcohol poisoning, you will likely have kideny problems for at least a long time, if not forever.
So, do you ladies want to weigh your choices now?

Re: The date rape thread
Guys buy girls drinks all the time, girls buy guys drinks all the time. Its how things work, accepting a drink doesnt imply that you're willing to put out. In case of the song, getting in the car was a stupid move, but who can say they haven't done something similar after a few drinks? Most of the time it turns out fine. I've been drugged or "date raped" - and yes I had the blood tests and med exams to prove it - but I maintain that nobody should hold back through fear if nothing unusual has happened. Obviously you don't take an open drink from a stranger, but if you're asked at the bar, why not accept? You can see the drink the entire time, from open, to the touch of your mouth. Can't everybody just relax?

No, it was YOU who said women claim rape when they're seeking attention. Which shows what a total asshole you really are.

Re: The date rape thread
I will never make any excuses for a piece of human shit who cannot get laid any other way than to take advantage of a drunk girl. What a pathetic loser.
Date rape also encompasses girls on real dates, not drunk, and in those cases the male feels entitled to "take" what he is due(the date rape). Believe it or not, most go unreported.
That said, I do place some blame on women who do absolutely nothing to protect themselves or make themselves safer when they drink in bars or at parties. If a girl shows up dressed like a stripper, then proceeds to get totally wasted, she needs to accept her part in the consequences that follow, namely the date rape. it is not her fault some scum pig cant get a girl the real way, but the girl should know better than to put herself in a vulnerable position.
Thats how I see it.

Re: The date rape thread
marchesa, after reading through a lot of your views, I am concluding that you are living in a bubble. To dispell all myths:
Casual sex is common, especially when alcohol is involved
Often times a girl will come on to a guy(happens to me a lot) while drunk, start kissing and grabbing and shit. The guy takes this to mean what it does: she wants to fuck him.
Girls who just realized what they have done in the morning often DO cry rape, because it is convenient and they know that a lot of people will take their side.
Sorry to make assumptions, but I am going to guess a few things about you. You are probably living in a very sheltered world, or maybe you or your parents are extremely religious. The primary reason people like you often disagree with others is because you cannot understand how anybody could be in a different situation as you. And finally, I am going to guess you are probably a sophomore or junior in high school, and shocked by all the partying that is going on around you. Perhaps you have over-protective parents, and they make you study every day. You have a curfew. Grow up, shit happens, and learn how to have fun.

Excuse me? I said SOME. An indefinite quantity, suggesting there are women who do, but also those who don't. And I wasn't even the first person to say it.
This wasn't even the point at all, you put your standard to my words in claiming that those who have casual sex were handicapped mentally, which doesn't even make sense, and then you bring up an earlier statement on falsely claiming rape and claim some connection that isn't there.
Read my posts before you start raging.

Re: The date rape thread
It's hard to distinguish the line between getting wasted and making bad decisions and being raped.
Which is why I like being under 21. I just party with people I know and try to avoid anything like that... and watch my drinks the entire time.
I wish I didn't have to be so paranoid, but if I know I wont' be with my friends the whole time, or they'll be too drunk to notice, I even cover my drink with my other hand. Not in a way that's obvious, just sort of like I'm holding it that way.
I'd never use it as an excuse though. If I get drunk and do something stupid, that's my own problem. No reason to make a big fuss out of it and try to ruin the guy's life for something dumb I did.

First, of all Socratic (I'm not raging)I've already pointed out that you make assumptions and contradict yourself, so fuck off already! Don't bother writing to me unless you can handle simple logic.
I don't have a problem with casual sex or having fun, and I don't live in a bubble. To top it all, I know I have more sex than all of you put together so fuck off!

Where did I contradict myself? So far all you've done is call me an asshole and twisted, then told me to fuck off.
I challenged your blind assumption that all women who claim rape are, and that people only have sex with those they care about or are proud of. Oh, and I pointed out you can't blanket-statement the mental health of sexual offenders.
Where's the contradiction?

I'm pretty sure it does. A rape accusation can ruin a life, but surprisingly few of the accused are actually convicted. A simple claim of rape isn't enough for a conviction. Just the other day my city was all in a fury because a teacher supposed raped a student... but the student's story wasn't adding up. Then she admitted she was making shit up because he gave her a bad grade.
Even if this kind of thing wasn't common, it's not reasonable to deny that someone could possibly cry rape without cause. I'm pretty sure you're trolling, but I think you know gadzooks or something so maybe not...?

Re: The date rape thread
When I've had sex with a girl when we've been drunk, I always make sure they want to.
I know there's an idea that if a girl says no, she doesn't always mean no.. if a woman says stop, then you stop straight away.. but a no can mean "I'm not quite ready" - she might need more foreplay.
Rapists should be shot and there's no excuse for it. Before you stick it in, always ask her.

That is a prime example of why I give so few rape claims much credit.
About 3 out of every 4 girls have some kind of rape story... What I want to know is... Where the hell are all these rapists!?
Or are there just one or two repeat offenders out there going for some kind of record?

I think I know where you got that idea... There was a thread a while back where I claimed she was the girl that I lost my virginity to, the one that ended up going and fucking like 10 of my friends. I was joking about that.
You weren't the only one who was confused by that though. Sorry, my bad.
