I've been alone as long as i can remember, 9 years of my life alone, not knowing what its like to have friends... I just feel so alone, like everyone around me is trying to make me feel bad, all i do every day is sit around hoping and looking for one person, just one friend, just one person who will be there with me, one person that wont try to hurt me... I was a "suburban hermit" for 5 years. I'm not going to turn this into a thread about me, but everything you think of when you imagine a hermit, that was me. I think I even got a little crazy toward the end.

You know what I did? I forced myself to get out into the world. I forced myself to talk to people. It was the last thing in the world I thought I could do, but I did it. Human beings are social creatures. You need interaction. Period. No ifs, ands or buts about it. You want a girlfriend/boyfriend? Take it from me, don't wallow in self pity around them. No one wants to hang out with someone who brings them down. I can only guess you're waiting for that one person that will bring you back to life, that will make you know what it's like to truly be alive. I found that person. You can too, but take it from me, YOU NEED TO FORCE YOURSELF. You control your mind and body, no one else.

There are two paths to take in life. You can be careless and heartless, and in turn never know heartbreak, but you never know love either. Or you can choose to be compassionate and allow yourself to feel. This option is a double edged sword. You know the pain of feeling but you also know the happiness of feeling. You know what I mean? There's nothing anyone can post here that will help you, it all comes down to YOU, and YOU alone. You have the option to experience anything you want to. If you make yourself. Life will get better, I guarantee it. If you let yourself.

First of all, get off the internet for a few days, and then go get a social job like working in a supermarket or an office or something. I had friends anyway but I've made so many good friends in work it's unreal! Don't be a miserable git too if you can help it.

As of now, I want to kill my roommate for having so many people over all the time. But on a totally different note, I also became slightly cocky, and more comfortable around girls.

I still can't walk up to a random girl and start a conversation. Working on it though.

If you were like over 20 then I could understand the despair but you're not and you've so much time on your hands! Get out.

I'm alone 24/7, with the exception of parents. I have been a hermit since aged eight, but had cousins I played with. From age 16/17 I've been totally alone. And the odd thing is that even though I'm as lonely as hell, I find I absolutely detest people and don't want to socialize (which is a good thing, since I can't). I held a job down for a short while, but I got fired. The people found me weird, and I guess I would be since I've been a hermit since such a young age. It never really bothered me, besides the loneliness, until I saw "Taxi Driver" and then shit, I realized who I was slowly becoming, yet I can't be bothered to change anything. :-S

Join the military dude... you'll be a completely new person... i'll guarantee it.

Sounds to me like you are depressed, perhaps try therapy. Or perhaps you are just introverted and antisocial, in that case just get out and try to meet people with your interests. You might find that volunteering is rewarding and a good chance to meet nice people.
