Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
Yes I have spoken about this before and as a lot of you will, within the next 5 years or so, be parents yourselves i make no apologies for repeating it. So if you don't want to hear it then stop reading now and go post a picture of your cock/tits in the appropriate threads.
------------------------------------------
Most of you know that my middle son is a spastic, a cripple. His girlfriend just turned up here at the house to see him. He of course was at the train station about to go see her (*put some credit on your cellphones, people*)!
Anyway she (my kids g/f) brought another kid with her, a boy, who was, as far as i can tell, also spastic.
However unlike my son this kid was a 'proper' spastic...a cramped up'hands turned in' dribbly.
After they had left I this conversation with my youngest son.
Him:"Jeez Dad, that boy was scary(to look at)"
Me:"Well thats what your brother would have looked like too".
Him"Huh?"
Me: "You don't recall all the times you sobbed because we were sooo 'mean' to your brother? The times Mommy and I shouted at him and you thought we were being so unfair? The hundreds of times he got slapped HARD for not holding his hands straight or for dribbling?"
Him:"He dribbled????!!!!"
Me:"Like you wouldn't believe, had to wear a dribble cloth all the time! He still produces too much saliva but now he can control it. You understand now why we 'abused' him all those years? You think he'd be happier if he was now like that kid?"
Got to remember people, that while this 'abuse' occurred we were living in Germany where it is a criminal offence to strike a child for any reason.I can recall several cases where parents where sent to prison/kids taken into care because the parents used 'normal' corporal punishment.
Thats the lesson here. Sometimes as a parent you HAVE to risk even jail time to do whats right by your kids.No matter what other people might think of you.
Our families often threatened to inform Social Services/Child Protection about how we 'mistreated' our 'poor handicapped child'.
Strange how nowadays they are very quiet on the subject...
here endeth the lecture

Huzzah for abuse!
I see where you're coming from though. This "anti-smacking" law in the UK is idiocy and I'd quite happily smack my child (if it was justifiable, of course).

I didn't know things like that could be corrected. Was it a matter of forcing the habit onto your son of using his hands properly etc? I don't fully understand it all, but you certainly did the right thing!

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
Sometimes there is no right or wrong in a given situation.
I can't imagine how stressful it must be to have a handicapped child, so I don't judge. If my daughter were disabled, I would definitely want her to live up to her full potential.
Did you know he was spastic when he was first born?

You mean besides having me as a father?? Or the original Mrs.Rochester as a mother?
Xiao MY wife was convinced from birth on that something was wrong with our son( he was born very prematurely and it was weeks before we could take him home). However the doctors kept on assuring us everything was ok.
At 6 months it became obvious and we went to see a paediatrician who diagnosed Cerebral Palsy straight away.
Flock things like this can't be corrected (Although stem cell research bears promise). However you can prevent, in some circumstances, things getting worse or the common problems associated with the condition.
We noticed early on that he had a minimal control of both hands...ie he could straighten them with a great deal of effort when he wanted to.
From the moment we discovered that he was given no option. Every time he let his hands turn in themselves he was told off/smacked.
It was horrific. Hitting a child is hard enough (peopel, your parents weren't kidding when they used to say 'this will hurt me more than it hurts you'). Imagine hitting a crippled child.
Many many times we almost gave up.
But one day we met a lady whose hands were bent in and spastic. She happened to see us disciplining our kid for letting his hands go. She told us that as a small child she had had some control of her hands and wished her parents had been as brutal with her.
Obviously if he had had no control whatsoever then all the hitting/shouting wouldn't have been any use and would truly have been abuse.
Point was he DID have a minimal control (And it really was bloody minimal) and he was forced to train it. Same with his dribbling.
Now he has hands that are pretty much 95% 'normal'...he should have no trouble unbuttoning his girlfriend's dress...

How premature was he?
My friend has a daughter who was born at only 23 weeks. Personally I can't BELIEVE the doctors were able to save her. She has a lot of problems...She had to stay in the hospital for 5 months after she was born.

My cousin was born super premature, i dunno how premature exactly, but I remember being 7 and going to see him in hospital(he's 3 years older than me) on a regular basis. He had water in his skull or something.
He went to a normal primary school where you'd get your ass kicked for acting like a cripple, so now he is just very short, mouth breathes and has a really big head=] He has zero confidence though.

Crikey, I've become accustomed to seeing some form of "I'm a hard man"/"I'm a rebel"/"I've done some bad ass stuff"/"I beat guys and gals up all the time"/"I'm a maverick"/"I'm tough as nails but this guys even tougher even though I'm super special tough" theme in jackketch's posts, but when you re-use the ol' "beating people up" theme with regards to crippled children?
...That's a new one for me.

Then you can't have read my threads very carefully (my usually humorous threads I might add).
I have ofttimes stressed that I am a man of peace. A quiet, gentle soul who bears little malice towards his fellow man.
I abhor violence and am just a soft fluffy bunny.
The few occasions when i have had no choice but to resort to violence have scared and troubled me deeply.
For truly it doth say in scripture 'how good and how pleasant for the brethren to live together in unity'.

Jack's stated that he hated doing it, but that he knew it would be in his kid's best interests. Seeing the difference between his son and the other kid today, it looks like he was right to do it. There was no pride or showing-off in his post.

Please refrain from giving anymore parenting advice Jackketch. I fail to see how beating your retarded son for drooling was a good idea.
You seem like a horrible parent, and your kids will probably turn out the same way.
Also, the fact that you have a sexual attraction to your kids G/F's and flirt with fifteen year old girls on an online forum is a bit disturbing to me.

Shut your damn mouth.
Jack's done a better job parenting than most people I've known.
By beating his crippled son, his son is actually living a fairly normal life.
I don't know if I could do the same.

So essentially what you're saying is that the only thing I have to do to get my children to the people that I would have them to be is just yell at them and hit them whenever they do something that I don't like? Awesome advice, really.

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
I know what you mean. I'm sort of a ferel child story, hahaha. Alright, I'm being a bit hyperbolic, but see, my parents literally checked out when I was about eight or nine years old. Before that my life consisted of being a well taken care of only child. I had a little brother who was colic and therefore ignored. Any attempt to discipline him was like pulling teeth so they never tried. However, my parents would on a regular basis smack the shit out of me if I got out of line. I don't consider this being beaten as I've been beaten, but they disciplined me meticulously.
Now, by the time my kid sister came along they really gave up all together. They didn't even want her and tried to give her up for adoption, but changed they're minds. And even though the rest of my childhood was really awful, those first 8 or 9 years put me head and shoulders above my kid brother and sister. To this day I'm a pretty successfull hairdresser and musician. I work hard but I get paid well. I have a lot of friends, never been fired. And my brother is 20 and has still never had a job, not in school, and just got dumped by a girl with no chin, and my kid sister is on her way to rehab, dropped out, is dating a guy who's 10 years older than her, doing meth, and just got fired from her mall job because of her lousy attitude.
Over all, I think a good boxing of the ears now again helps keep you focused.
Cheers,
Lost

You raise a good point.
And in general I absolutely agree with you.For that reason I have never forced my faith on the kids. Unlike my childhood they have had almost total freedom to decide for themselves most things at any early age. Even now as teenagers they enjoy far more freedoms than most of their friends.
For example the only 'dating rule' I set is no gingers...otherwise i don't care what they bring home...be male/female/shemale/black/white/green etc etc.
They have always been allowed to drink alcohol with the meal, and i don't mind them sharing A joint with their mates.
They may dress as they want and go and do pretty much what they want. The only real rule is 'if you fuck up THEN TELL ME AND TELL ME THE TRUTH'.Because if they are old enough to do it then they are old enough to talk about it an adult fashion.
The cripple son enjoys the same freedoms. But he can only enjoy them because we put him and us through hell. Not because i wanted him to fullfill some dream of mine but so he could have as much from life as possible.
Did we mentally damage him? Yep.
Did we emotionally scare him for life? Sure did and proud of it.
So before you judge me on some moral point GO ask any (congenital)cripple this simple question: If by shouting at you, smacking you, your parents could have given you a body that works or works 100% better than your body now, would it have been worth the emotional anguish and tears?
Sure we could have left him in the caring hands of the therapists...
Seen the results.
Now THAT IS abuse.

Retard, spastics aren't retarded. They're born crippled. No matter how much you would lump people with spasticisty in with retards, they're still just physically disabled.

Bull-fucking-shit. You're just rationalizing your bullshit. Abuse and violence is NEVER acceptable under ANY circumstances. Do you really think you couldn't have accomplished the same thing through positive reinforcement? You could have just pulled a Pavlov's Dog with the poor bastard.
You're proud of emotionally scarring him for life? You sick, sick bastard. All bodies are decrepit and disgusting, some are just moreso than others. A mind can be a beautiful thing, though. All bodies weaken, break, and die with old age. The mind cultivates the soul which is everlasting and the pure form of humanity.

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
It does suck that he's got the emotional problems on top of being handicapped.
When I was a kid, my mother used to beat me for talking to myself. When I told her that I was actually responding to voices I could hear, she beat me for being a liar. She also used to beat me for having anxiety attacks and for crying.
Later, it was discovered that I have schitzoid personality disorder and that was why I was so strange growing up. Her beating and critisizing me all of the time just made it all worse and it certainly didn't "cure" me.
Wasn't there some kind of physical therapy for your son?

The conclusion: Some cripples would want to have been beaten to not be cripple, and some cripples would prefer to stay cripple instead of being pwned.
I never would have thought of beating my child if he was retarded. I guess jacktech is a creative person and so is his wife.

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
It's hard to know how and in what ways this affected him mentally. If this dammaged his emotional well being so much so that he can not trust or love, then it may not have been worth the use of his hands. It's hard to guage the effect this has had.
However, if the dammage was minimal or nonexistant then it was obviously worth the use of his hands.
Personally, I think I would prefer the use of my hands to the possibility of emotional trauma. I'm curious what your son thinks, if he even remembers.

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
Heres a story..
My Uncle, Aunt, and 2 cousins moved to Vegas from Germany 4 years ago. Last October my uncle caught my cousin with coke. He beat the shit out of him, and my cousin calls the cops. Uncle gets fined and receives 9month probation (he got off lucky). He didn't do a single thing to his son since. When summer came around the whole family went to Germany for vacation. My uncle knew that his son had still been on coke, so after they landed and walked out of the terminal, my uncle beats the living shit out of my cousin. Right there in public. 2 army officers come up to him and ask him what he was doing. My uncle explained to the officers what had happened and the officers told him to do whatever he needs to do to raise his child.
I lived in Germany all my life until I was 15, but never heard about it being illegal to hit a child.

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
Im with jakketch all the way on this one.
Youve given your son a life magnitudes better than what hwe woul dhave had otherwise.
And he would have had far more emotional scarring if he grew up, looked around him, and saw he was relatively incomptent and useless.
And youve raised your kids in a rational way, and they sound mature and well baught up.
As it is, i wish my dad was more like you (and i feel fucking bad saying it because i feel like im betraying him, as he WAS trying to help me.) I dont mind being hit, unless its for stupid shit like not combing my hair when i go out (god that guy is old fasioned). Fortunately my dad doesnt hit me any more as im 6 3 and hes like 5 6.

Your a sad pathetic excuse for a father.
There is nothing you can say to rationalize what you did to your retard son. And no matter how much you beat him, HES STILL RETARDED... Who gives a fuck if he is less retarded than the average retard..
Good fucking job asshole.
PS: Your going to be Satan's main bitch. Enjoy!
Guess what dickweed? Being blahblah less physically handicapped is a fucking blessing. Did you even read your goddamn post before you sent it? Sure, the kid's still wheelchair bound, but he has proper use of his hands and isn't dribbling. Those are things other spastics don't have, and which horribly detract from their lives. God, you're a retard. 'you're still a handicapped individual' means shitall if you're better than most.
Anyways, Jack, I understand that you used a method (that could be seen as somewhat brutal, and I would tend to say so, but if that's all that worked then probably necessary) to enhance your son's grasp over his own body, in which case I'm glad for him that you did. I think perhaps you put it in the wrong terms in your original post, because a lot of fuckers here are getting the wrong idea. At least you didn't enjoy it.
Also, I would just be making moves to make sure your son doesn't feel you hate him or hold malice towards him because of his condition, which is an impression a child could certainly have gotten from that treatment. Now that he has a lot more control, you should be (and probably are) making any moves possible to ensure he knows you love him.
Also, congratulations on your son getting a superfly girl.
The only negative things I could really say is that the whole 'ends justify the means' thing here is somewhat dubious, and that perhaps you went about things in a too brutal manner. Perhaps you should have considered a more positive (rather than negative) reinforcement approach rather than spankings. But I mean, as long as he turned out well now, then I'm willing to let the past go. One's just always got to wonder 'maybe I hit too hard' 'maybe I shouted too loud' 'maybe I did it one too many times'. Physical negative reinforcement can easily slip into abuse.
Also, Rizzo, positive reinforcement only goes so far, as does negative, and ONLY using one will lead to just as bad an upbring as ONLY using the other. I know I'm generalising somewhat by putting them on an equal scale, but a good spanking (maybe not so much slapping to the face) is sometimes necessary, and if you don't do the right thing then your child will be wearing your mistake.

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
I don't know why people are having such a problem with this.
He obviously cares a lot for his son. Otherwise, why would he bother?
Also, people are underestimating just how awful it feels for parents to hit their children. It's not something done lightly or without massive guilt trips.
The end result is positive, and while the method might be unusual I doubt it was unnecessarily harsh. And if the boy can have a girlfriend, he can't be so badly scarred.

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
I think you all are over reacting on this one. Did you beat your son? Did you cause him a lot of unnessacary physical harm? Did you break bones? Well, if not, and he's better off then most kids in his condition, more power to you. I'm sure if he could choose between getting smacked and getting to use his hands and not drool on himself, he would choose getting hit. I know I would. I don't really have parents, but my eldest foster brother did. He said if his parents hadn't disiplined him, he'd probably be like every other black thug out there. He's an educated U.S. Marine with a head on his shoulders and a paying salary. Yeah, his parents smacked him when he did something wrong, and those wimpy parents who don't hit their kids, well their kids are in jail now.

You sound so much like my parents. Its because of this "So help me God I'll shove my foot up your ass if you cause problems. Be back by sun rise, love you." style parenting I'm a decent person.
Your preaching in the wrong church though, this way of parenting is differnt and most people are afraid of differnt.

You're a damned brave man for doing it, in the same situation I doubt I could, how old is your son? I'm assuming since he's dating he's at least a teenager, how does he feel now about your punishing him as a child? When I was a kid, and my dad disciplined me, I hated him for it, but looking back now I realise it was for the best.

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
I don't know what to think on this subject...
It does seem to work for you, however i'd be very unsure about anouncing physical violence as a cure for spastication, or any other problems children have.
It's been proven time and time again violence against children isn't a simple thing, and you can't just beat problems out of children, or mind-sets into them.
I am convinced that other factors were just as important in his development; the love from two parents honestly concerned about his development firstly.
Anyway, interesting, but kinda "painful".

You mentioned "imagine hitting a crippled child..." I am imagining it, and I think you're a sick fuck! I'd like to hit you right in the fucking face! If you were to "hit" my kid, I'd fucking kill you!
You can justify violence all you want, IMO you're only "teaching" or expressing your opinion that violence is an acceptable method to "help" others act the way YOU want them to!
There is a difference between a quick slap on the ass Vs. a ritualistic "spanking."

How does using physical negative discipline 'teach' children that violence is an acceptable means to force people to do what you wish?
Jack disciplined his son when his son gave in to his disability, thus encouraging him to not do this and in doing so had immensely improved his quality of life. It's not that Jack was trying to make his son into the kind of person HE wanted, it was that he was trying to improve his son's quality of life. Do you think anyone wants to be disabled? Wants to be at the mercy of their disorder?

What does your son think about this? Does he think it was worth it?
I'm probably going to be a parent one day and I'm sitting on the fence about what you've done here. Once I know your kids reaction I'll have made up my miind.

I could simply 'yes he thinks it was more than worth all the misery' but that wouldn't be the full truth.
Actions maybe speak louder than words in this case.
Everytime (or so it seems) I walk past his bedroom (their door is on my work bench being stripped and repaired at the mo')he is either lying on his bed with his girlfriend or sitting on his bed using his laptop(he's taking a A+ kinda thing at college).
He is still very jumpy and nervy around loud noises .
Does he think it was worth it? Well right this moment he's a bit pissed about it cos they (the government) have just cut his handicapped money cos he is perfectly capable of looking after himself and he is alittle bit piqued!
But in all seriousness yes he is beginning to appreciate the difference between himself and the other spastics he knows and he is also beginning to understand what it cost us to do too.
Strange how all those shoutings and memories of being hit over the offending wrist suddenly fade from his mind when he is able to undo his girlfriend's bra through her t-shirt...
Yes I am a horrible cynic...

Re: Learn a valuable parenting lesson.
Having been born with mild cerabl palsy ( as a result of being 6 weeks premature ), I think jackktech did a great thing for his kid
I was given intensive physio after birth, so now, I can perform any task normaly, without any special effort. I cant imagine what it would be like to grow up and not be in full control of my body, and personally, I think having the shit slapped outa me would be a small price to pay.
Having said that, im glad I didnt have to get the shit slapped outa me

Your question is so stupid it lacks the need for any response! Better yet, why don't you go beat the hell out of someone, like a child, then ask them the same question...
