Well I went over my girlfriends house today and we got to talking and we started talking about her brother, well she then explains to me that he tried to rape her. I tried to make her feel comfortable but she cried anyway.

I was curious about the details but I felt like further questions would be inappropriate and from her view unnecessary.

Now her brother is very pretective over her constantly finding out what she is doing with me where she is going etc. To a rediculous extent. So he obviously isn't to crazy about me and the age gap dosn't help either ( shes 15, im 17 ).

So Im wondering how I should treat she situation. I'd like to talk to her about it but I don't want to go about it the wrong way. Hell sometimes I feel like everyones' life is secretly a maury episode... except mine of course.

What are your thoughts on the situation?

She could be lying but I won't make any assumptions. It's just that I know plenty of girls who claim that they have been raped when they haven't. I don't know whether it's for attention or sympathy or what but it happens.

But assuming she's telling the truth, then damn. I would straight out ask her if she feels comfortable talking about it, and if she does then just tell her to let you in on only what she wants you to know. You're going to have to let her set the limits on how much she tells you, otherwise she will get freaked out or something.

As for the brother... I really have no clue whether you should confront him about it or not. I wouldn't, but if your girl starts telling you that it's happening regularly then you might have to do something about it.

thanks, well from what I understand it was a one time thing but when they were younger he used to beat her up quite frequently. Also I am very very positive that she is not making this up for attention, or anything else for that matter.

I don't plan on confronting him about this but if she comes to me and tells me something like this happened recently I will have no choice but to take the advice of the majority of totseans in this thread.

It seems weird to me that her brother is overprotective of her though. He raped and beat her but is overprotective... Kind of contradicting if you ask me. I wonder what the hell is going through that dudes head. How old is he anyway?

He's not protective of her, he's in love with her. If she's telling the truth(not trying to diss your girl mate). assuming she not lying, ask if she still feels she's in danger, if she things that there is any possibility he'll try it again. if so, she needs to get out to that situation. despite the secrecy surrounding the issue, the girls continued safety is paramount a plan needs to be set to the brother to receive counseling and the brother and sister to be in limited unsupervised contact, preferably moving one out of the area.

I think it is my busniess as this girl"s family is a mess and as someone who is close to her I feel I have some hand in the matter.

There is also no doubt in my mind that what this girl is saying is true. She is not a lier and her brother seems like the type. Btw he is an AVID WOW player... coincidence?

I still havn't brought it up again with her or anyone else for that matter. But she thinks he is over protective because he is her sister, not because he is crazily sexually attracted to her. I think he probaley just made a bad choice in a time of confusion.

I do agree with you Rizzo that it has something to do with a dominance type relasthonship. Because from the stories she has told me, her brother and (her for that matter) havn't had control of a lot in their lives, and his control over her might be a attempt at some.

I would post a picture in almost any other situation but do to the sensitive nature of the topic, I think it is better not top. But it as popular opinoin and an obvious fact that this girl is very cute and her brother is an abosolute dog. From what I've seen he dosn't have a romantic life but the one girl he did hook up with looks nothing like his sister. But from what I've heard/said rape is more about control rather than attraction. And from what I understand so far this was an ATTEMPTED rape.

Bear in mind though, if he does have some kind of obsession with her, he's a really sick puppy. You can't beat that out of people.

If something like that happens again, it'd probably be best to do something constructive, maybe talk to a doctor, that sort of thing. Get real, real-life advice. Confrontation is likely to make the situation worse.
