My friends funeral - Funerals bring out the worst in people
Yesterday was the funeral of another friend of mine who took his own life...Most S&A regulars will remember me explaining what happened about this time last week.
Anyhow afterwards everyone went out to have some drinks reflecting on things and catching up with one another.
Admittedly this friend of mine was a football player and so the majority of his friends are too (I'm not though). What happened next was what has come to be expected - Fights breaking out, pure showing of emotions I suppose.
And his cousin was so self destructive jumping in front of cars, he was so drunk he was falling over in the cement smacking his head into the gutter at one stage.
All the girls were sick, or tired from just being so upset and crying a lot.
It was really upsetting to see this all over again
What is it about funerals that makes people act this way. I just had a quiet night with some drinks hanging out with friends.

Re: My friends funeral - Funerals bring out the worst in people
Everyone has their own way of dealing with grief. It is just that you can handle grief better than them. Just contemplating over what has happened - enjoying a few drinks with friends.
They are expressing their grief in an extrovert-ish way and in the 3rd stage - anger (if i am correct. I'm a teenager so probably best if you don't listen to me hehe)
EDIT: Typo

That's pretty rough, man. Someone close to me committed suicide over the summer, I know what it's probably like. Sorry to hear about it.

sorry to go off topic quickly: what forum would be best for debating suicide? The effects etc.. Philosophy?

Re: My friends funeral - Funerals bring out the worst in people
What I said last week
quote:Originally posted by Trousersnake:
In the past 2-3 years in my town of about 11,000 residents (I don't know demographics like how many older people live here) a number of people I knew have killed themselves.
I can't remember now but I think the first one was in about mid 2004 and he was an old friend - He played soccer (football) with my brother and the scary thing was that he looked just like my brother.
The next was a younger guy, he would have been maybe 16? when he killed himself just around the corner from me.
My memory is a bit hazey at this point but the next one that comes to mind is a guy that used to come over to our house and play original nintendo, he used to go to me and my brothers school and play tennis with us...he jumped in front of a train
Next was a guy I didn't know as well as the others but I knew of him, that happened last year.
And now my little buddy just now kills himself. He was only 18.
I dunno what I'm doing, I have a mixed set of emotions. I'm shocked, upset, confused - I dunno, having had to accept these time and time again is it going to make me bitter one day or something.
The oldest person from above would have been 23-24. I think how I mentioned 5 people, and how a loaded car could take away 5 lives too, but these people chose to die, they happened all with gaps between occurances...shouldn't there have been a suicide prevention strategy in place targeting this group? gahh
Last night too I was with some friends who over the last few years lost someone close to them...A mother (Car Accident) and a brother (Drug OD).
The other day I was driving home and saw the mother of a boy that died in an car accident putting some flowers at the site of the accident...it was so sad to see.
What a Christmas

Stop crying bitch. If the loss of loved ones is new to you, then you really have been sheltered.
Why not watch your friend's face being blown off next to you. Then you might have something to cry about bitch. Otherwise shut the fuck up.

^^His friend just died, there's no reason to be an asshole. Just because everyone experiences loss doesn't mean that it's not going to rip your own heart out when it happens to you.

Re: My friends funeral - Funerals bring out the worst in people
Fuck that. All this douche ever talks about is how other people die, and how people are dying around him.
To me he is just looking for a reason to bitch and moan. People die, that's life.
Grieve in your own way, but please stop talking about suicide in this forum. Seems like the only threads you make are to outline in detail the deaths of other people.
On top of that he cries non-stop. I have every right to be an asshole.

Why don't you just stop posting in threads that you don't like?
All you ever do is bitch about other people.

You, my friend, are deliberately misinterpreting everything to make him seem selfish. He misses his friend. What the FUCK is so wrong with that? Who says that he REALLY wanted to kill himself? Maybe it was only a momentary thing that just got out of control.
Stop trying to be such a hardass. It's so transparent.

Or they're the only people here who actually have a grip on life. Just cause they don't deep-fry everything in sugar and spice doesn't mean it's not the god damn truth. Dumb, white bitches

Re: My friends funeral - Funerals bring out the worst in people
Most people go through three stages of grief.
the first one is not believing they are actually gone, this can last from a day to a few weeks if it goes further then that it can actually turn into a disorder this is rare though but is more likely to happen when someone close passes away like a wife or parent. The second stage is remorse, which normally doesn't last long but can resurges ever so often. The third stage, which some people skip and some people go straight to is anger, this is more likely to happen when a leader or hero type person passes on, this can be very much amplified depending on who it was, if it was someone who was also close like your father this stage is normally skipped and the second stage lasts longer, it is normal for it to be alot worse when it is someone who was a roll model that you weren't close to such as a friend or political leader.

Re: My friends funeral - Funerals bring out the worst in people
Trousersnake, I know how you feel. I've lost two family members to suicide, and it affects me daily, in terms of how I think about and interpret totally unrelated things. Just the thought that they consciously decided to end their own lives, that they were so unhappy when they died, makes me so sad. In some ways, though, it feels great to remember them, and to look over their things, and to feel sad. It brings them back. Sorry for your loss.

I laughed at this :P
Also Kate, I'm sorry, but this guy is an ass. Trouser is the biggest douche I know on here besides fullcircle. I just had to put it out there
And to Rizzo. Please don't tell me what to do. I don't tell you not to have sex with men. So you don't tell me where to post, mmmkkkay?

Goddamit carbonB, just shut the fuck up you oversized semen swiller!!! They are usually bloody good contributors...
Sounds like a pretty unpleasant funeral experience man, i've never lost a friend in that way. In the end, you can remember the good times that your friend had, and the joy he brought to people around him. Hell, he might even have found his funeral mildly amusing, y'know? You may never fully understand the choice me made, but letting go of the pain and hurt is pretty esential
Hmm anyway, have you considered maybe having a few drinks with people who knew him who you are closer to?
Good luck man...

^Lol, why? You going to kill me? Shut the fuck up you 15 year old cunt.
You wouldn't do shit to me. No one on here would except for a few grown men with hurt egos.
Then the only thing that would happen, is they would catch an ass whooping or maybe get shot. This is Texas afterall and at 21, a concealed hangun liscense isn't hard to come by.
Also to the Mellow Fellow, fuck you.
