Date conversations
So I have a date with this guy I really like but it's been ages since I've actually been out on a proper one. Quite possibly because I hate having to sit through 2 hours of pointless stories. I need tips on how to avoid awkward pauses. Usually at parties it's a 2 minute greeting before everyone splits to do the usual but I actually like this guy so I need tips to keep the date goin' smoothly.

Re: Date conversations
Watching a movie is generally good. While watching the movie, you can't really hold a conversation anyways (except maybe small comments about the movie here and there) and then after the movie, if conversation does not flow naturally, you can talk about the movie over some coffee or something.

Re: Date conversations
Go to a Pool hall,
Pwn Her,
Continually tease her about how bad she is.
Fit in Small Conversations
Awkward pause = Go shoot while you think of something.
Regardless if your into her, there shouldn't be any awkward pauses unless you have a piece of shit personality and suck with girls.

Re: Date conversations
If this is a first date perhaps you should consider something that offers alternatives to talking while not eliminating them like a movie would.
Maybe something like minigolf? (*shrugs*) During awkward pauses you simply focus on your shot and no feels that bad. Then you can progress to the dates like dinner where the entertainment is solely conversation.
Hopefully by then you'll know him well enough that the pauses won't be so much awkward as natural.

Re: Date conversations
I can't do movies, movies usually end with a make out session and I kind of want to prove I'm girlfriend material. That, and there's some cockeyed catholic school girl bitch that also likes him. Not that he's not hot, but it's more the principle that counts.

You are completely correct
People find movies lame, but you have no idea how beneficial it is on a date. When choosing a movie, don't go for that really funny one, go for the one that looks like it's gonna hurt your brain from thinking. After you watch that movie both of you will have verbal diarrhea. Just be careful not to choose a movie with too much religious beliefs or something that a lot of ENTIRELY OPPISITE opinions can be commented on. That just might start an arguement on the first date... :S
That entire conversation with the opinions and psychology given in can show a lot about how the person really is. It will show how mature and smart they are.

Re: Date conversations
Sorry to interject, but Azalie, what part of Australia are you from?
And as far as advice goes, whats been said so far seems good enough.

Re: Date conversations
"So...umm....how about this weather?"
"Ummm...what's your major...?"
"So...do you like...stuff"?
Use those lines. They always lead to interesting conversations.

Re: Date conversations
Just me who thinks going on a movie dates provides too little interaction to really get any closer? I suppose it's ok, gives you something to talk about afterwards, so just make sure to do something nice afterwards.
I went on a movie date once, didn't even make contact during the movie, and left more-or-less straight after. That was the worst date ever.
And as far as awkward silences go, just have a few conversation topics reserved; you can normally think of something to talk about with pretty much anyone, so just think of some good ones in advance, like on the way to the date, and drop them in just before that vulgar moment when slight pause becomes awkward silence
