My girlfriend is very opinionated. She was raised in a good catholic family, and when it comes to anything that could be considered bad.. ie drinking, dressing in sexy clothes, whatever.. she is so dead-set against it, that its impossible to deal with.

It gets to the point where I cant even have a conversation about it with her, because she is so strongly opinionated in the negative direction, that I feel like i have to be careful what I say around her as to not start an argument.

How can i deal with this? I told her tonight.. i told her that i had no problem with her being opinionated.. but she took it too far and it bothered me. I'm actually getting mad about it. She is so dead set against everything of that nature, and she has such a negative point of view towards evrything.. drinking, smoking, sexual stuff, dressing in hot clothes to accent her body, etc. I think it was just how she was raised.. but she wont grow out of it. Iv learned to accept it, but it really just bothers me and gets under my skin. I get so fuckin tired of trying to deal with it. Some of that is stuff that id like my girlfriend to do with me or for me, or atleast be open to conversation about.. such as drinking or her sometimes dressing in clothes that I think are hot. But it never happens, and to the best of my knowledge it never will, becaus I feel like i cant even talk to her about it. It just starts an argument and then a fight, because she is so strongly opinonated towards the negative that none of it is even under consideration.

Fuck, this bothers the shit out of me.

What can i do?

If you can't accept her how she is, then go find a girl that you can accept.

See, thats the thing though. I do like her the way she is, and I accept it. Its just that when I make a comment about something that shes so against, it starts a big argument and she gets all offended and is just so dead set against it. Its hard to know how to deal with. See if you can get her to follow my logic and then lose all faith in Christianity:

this is her personality, and you don't like it. i wouldn't either. but believe it or not, in the world of subjectivity, this isn't a definite negative trait she has: some guys might actually like it! so do both of you guys a favor and break up; you're incompatible.

QFT, youre her boyfriend and if you cant talk about that with her, there is a problem. you said she gets frustrated when you bring it up. to me that sounds like shes scared to talk because she doesnt want to go against how she was raised. maybe she wants to talk and do some of those things but is afraid to.

My gf is a milder version of this. strong in certain areas and gets agitated when i challenge her beliefs.

What makes it worse is that we both hold very different beliefs.

But the issues at hand are just mainly our life philosophy, so as long as we don't discuss about it, all is fine.

What i do is that whenever she gets agitated, i'll stop discussing and tell her that i'm not trying to change her, but that i want her to know my opinion. That usually calms her down enough to listen to what i have to say.

Be patient. That's the key.

I think a number of you are missing the point of this thread.

He doesn't exactly MIND her having those opinions, but would rather she didn't jump down his throat every time that he has a slightly different opinion to hers! If you're in a relationship with someone both parties have to give way and respect each others for their moral opinions.

I'd say try and avoid the subject altogether.

If they do come up, then say, well that's your opinion, I respect that but this is mine (and theirs if shes talking about another women in slutty clothes).

I say, if you accept her the way she is, but are just bothered by the insane reaction/arguments that arise, decide what is more important to you - being able to talk about stuff that bothers her, or not talking about it and it bothering you - relationships are give and take.

It seems to me that you may be giving her the same impression, "trying to get her to wear clothes that are hot" or "drinking" Not implying that you are trying to MAKE her do these things, but maybe the pressure of the person she loves telling her that he'd like her to do these things gets to her too.
