Nursing women
I read this article in the paper a few days ago that was about a woman who was kicked off of an airplane for FEEDING her BABY!! Apparantly the airline personel were so offended at the sight of her baby nursing that they asked her to leave the plane during a layover. Is that not
unbelievable?? I don't get why people are even offended by breastfeeding...I mean it's a woman feeding her child. I see women wearing outfits all of the time that expose more breast than you would see on a nursing woman.
It is so offensive to me when people are all like, "Just give it a bottle out in public" or "Cover it up with a blanket." First of all a woman shouldn't have to hide under a blanket when feeding her baby and furthermore maybe the baby doesn't LIKE eating with its head covered. And I nursed my daughter until she was 16 months old and at no point during that time would she ever take a bottle...And she shouldn't have to anyway!
I'm sorry for the rant, but this issue really bothers me. A woman's breasts are specifically designed for feeding her child, but the whole process has been warped by society so that people are offended by a woman doing only what nature intended. Women's breasts are seen as sexual objects instead of just another part of her reproductive system.

I agree 100%. It really pisses me off when nursing mothers are harassed. Here sometimes even by the police!

Re: Nursing women
By POLICE?? What's really sad is a lot of women feel so insecure about nursing that they just opt for bottle feeding. You'd think society would encourage women to breastfeed and that it would make people happy to see a woman caring for her baby.

Breast feeding is healthier for the baby too. Why would anyone see that as offensive? I really don't get it...

Re: Nursing women
That is indeed freaking stupid. Breast-milk is the most nutritionally sound approach, and it isn't even a sexual act, so I don't see how any one could get fucking offended.

I totally agree. I just politely don't stare and think nothing of it. Not for one second have I thought it wrong or weird or felt any discomfort. People are fucking idiots like that.

Re: Nursing women
I disagree. Some people just don't like the sight of a woman's boobs hanging out for the world to see with a little brat sucking away at it. When I worked at a fancy restaurant back in the day a lady tried to breastfeed her child in the middle of the restaurant, people were offended and she was asked to either do it in a less public area, or leave. It IS offensive. Sure, it's a natural process, but so are excretory functions, and civilized people don't do that in public either.
Plus, the only time I ever see a woman breastfeeding her kid in public... she looks... not classy.
In regards to the airplane though, the airline personnel had no right to kick her off the plane. If the people sitting near her were offended, she could have moved elsewhere to do it. But the staff... that's crap.

Just one of countless cases:
quote:The Times November 22, 2005
Police stop woman breast-feeding on bench in high street
By Lewis Smith
A MOTHER has spoken of her disgust at being stopped by police for breast-feeding her four-week-old baby in the high street.
Margaret Boyle-White said she was made to feel like a criminal when an officer spoke to her in Watton, Norfolk, about her feeding her daughter, Naimh.
She had been sitting on a bench in the street to feed Naimh and was approached by an officer in response to a complaint from a member of the public.
I just felt so embarrassed. I have never been stopped by the police before and this came as a complete shock, Mrs Boyle-White, 34, of Carbrooke, Norfolk, said.
He just said to me, If you want to breast-feed in public, could you use a pub or a restaurant or some other place to do it. I was made to feel like a criminal. I was very upset and angry about it. I have not breast-fed in public again since this. It was humiliating.
She added: The Government encourages mothers to breast-feed and if I want to breast-feed my daughter on a public bench I think I should be entitled to do so.
I had been sitting on a bench with Niamh for only about five minutes and had got up to leave when the officer got out of his car and told me he had received a complaint from an older member of the community which he was following up. He was very polite, but I was just so taken aback.
Mrs Boyle-White said that a health visitor had taken up the issue and had asked her to put what had happened in writing.
A spokesman for Norfolk Police confirmed that an officer had spoken to Mrs Boyle-White regarding a complaint they had received about her breast-feeding in public on June 28.
The spokesman said the officer had dealt with the matter in a discreet, professional manner and said the force had yet to receive a formal complaint from Mrs Boyle-White.
He said: Following our inquiries we can confirm that an officer did speak to Mrs Boyle-White in relation to an incident in Watton in June this year.
The officer dealt with the matter in a discreet, professional manner and was advising her of a complaint made by a member of the public for her own benefit.
There was no intention to cause Mrs Boyle-White any distress or embarrassment through the officer speaking to her. Norfolk Constabulary doesnt have an issue with mothers breast-feeding in public.
We can confirm that we have not received any formal complaint from Mrs Boyle-White, but we are happy to talk with her further about the incident.

Where would you have the woman go? Into a bathroom? Would YOU eat in a bathroom?
And why does a nursing woman look different than a bottle feeding woman? Both are just feeding a baby...I fail to see how it looks offensive or not "classy."

Of course, the diners were never forced to look at her doing it, so I think it's somewhat mean to be offended. Besides, it's not like public breast-feeding is performed just to piss people off.
Also, I don't see how the aesthetic qualities of such an action really have any importance. I don't mean to sound angry here, because I'm not, but classiness to me just seems unimportant when feeding an infant.

We live in a society where nobody admits we all shit.
We like to think we're so special, somehow higher and different than the world we swarm and rape.
Reality check, you're not. But that's only a negative thing if you try to ignore it.
I know diabetics that have to hide in bathrooms to inject insulin.
Ladies having to hide to feed their babies is equally, if not more fucking rediculous.
This human society and mentality is broken. I'd like to think if I were on the plane that I'd have stood up for that lady in the name of human sensibility.

Well, don't discount how many pregnancies are accidents & the general hope of both genders most of the time that the thexxth do not lead to the pregnancy.
An infant at the suck is a reminder of the cost of the thexxth that so many are so terrified of paying. I just hope that I get to see a engorged & shapely hooter.
I feel it's only polite to look. Terribly impolite to stare!

obviously, its completly out of line to kick a woman off a plane because of it, or to get the police involved, but I do believe that there is a time and place for it. I completly agree with Demoiselle, it really makes some people uncomfortable, myself included. I'd never say anything to them about it, but it's not such an inconvienence to use a bottle when you're dining out, or going out in public.

It's not such an inconvenience to adopt a stiff upper lip.
Just because we sexualise the breasts doesn't mean it's some great moral tabboo.
Breastfeeding is crucially important to a child's early development, you wouldn't want to mess with that!

Some babies will not touch a bottle. I was one of them. I would have gone hungry without public breast-feeding.
I don't see what the issue is: It's breast-feeding...don't like seeing it? TURN YOUR FUCKING HEAD AWAY!

I see your point about babies not liking the bottle but you don't have to freak out about it. Breastfeeding in a public place is perfectly fine, but at a table in a restuarant is a bit inappropriate, she could have easily stepped outside or something instead of doing it right at the table, and the baby won't starve to death if it has to wait 5 minutes to be brought outside or into another room with the mother. So in short i agree partially with everyone here, breastfeeding is a requirement and its fine in public, but it's a bit annoying in the middle of a fancy restuarant right at the table.

Would you like to be told you couldn't eat at the table with the rest of your family? Where should she go - outside in the elements? In the bathroom? That's ridiculous. Would you like to eat outside or in the bathroom, or with a blanket covering your entire head?
If you don't like it, don't fucking watch. There's nothing offensive about it.

alright, calm down jsut a bit, and consider the fact that "just not looking at it" is easier said than done! I mean, I dont WANT to look at it, but when someone is doing that right in public, gosh, that's weird for me. excuse me, for being uncomfortable.

Excuse the baby for being hungry. You don't have a right to not be uncomfortable. Mothers have a right to feed their children. If you're uncomfortable, don't look at it. It is as easily done as it is said. Rotate your head away from it. If you can't stop yourself from looking at something that makes you uncomfortable then it's your own problem. Grow up.
The right to feed your child "right in public" is protected by law in almost every state. You know why? Because it's a natural and innocuous action.

I have every right to be uncomfortable! I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to do it, but not in the middle of a fucking restaurant, man. I understand you don't mind, but why can't you understand that some people don't appreciate that kind of stuff while they're trying to eat their goddamned dinner?!

There's nothing to understand about what you're saying - it's not your right to not be uncomfortable. The law seems to agree. Would you like to be told that to eat you have to leave the room and go either outside or in a bathroom? No? Then shut the fuck up.
The baby is trying to eat its own goddamned dinner, and you have no right to say it should leave the room for your own comfort.
What do you mean "that kind of stuff"? What kind of stuff? Feeding a human baby in a completely natural and innocent manner? If you're offended by that then you're a fucking pervert.
Take a look at the ads on any site you go to on the internet. What do you see? Sexualized breasts. Why aren't you offended by that?

If "my dinner" came from sucking on a woman's breast, I think you'd have a valid argument.
And I would never say anything to her, but wtf, it weirds some people out, I don't care if it's natural or legal or whatever, I don't appreciate it.

Get over it. Why are you so "weirded out" by a baby sucking on a woman's breast for food? Is that not exactly what they're there for?
If the woman was in your face squirting milk on you, you'd have a valid argument. If you don't appreciate it, grow up. Mothers don't appreciate the stigma assholes like you have attached to the act of feeding their children.

what don't you understand about that?
all I'm saying is that there is a time and a place for stuff like that. And while it may be legal, it is not appreciated by everyone.
So what ARE you saying? "Stuff like that"? Like WHAT?
What is the right time and place to feed a screaming, hungry baby? What's the right place? Should she go in the bathroom?
All I'm saying is that it's not the mother's problem if you're too much of a pervert to be comfortable around a breastfeeding woman, it's yours. Who cares if it makes you uncomfortable? Get the fuck over it.
There's a time and a place to come to terms with your obvious fear of breasts, and that is here and now.
It's not a matter of you disagreeing with me, it's a matter of you being an idiot. Your reasoning for thinking women should have to leave the room to feed their children is because you don't feel comfortable around it? That's a bullshit reason.
It's not even a matter of you being unable to appreciate it - its your refusal to simply look away.

All I'm saying is that it's not the mother's problem if you're too much of a pervert to be comfortable around a breastfeeding woman, it's yours. Who cares if it makes you uncomfortable? Get the fuck over it.
There's a time and a place to come to terms with your obvious fear of breasts, and that is here and now.
haha, ok, so you have no idea what i'm trying to explain. just quit it with the insults, it's not helping. And i'm not the only person who it makes uncomfortable!
and no, she shouldn't be forced to go to the bathroom, she could bring a bottle or something when shes in the middle of a fucking restaurant, for god's sake.

Because every baby will take a bottle! If not breastfeeding in the restaurant, in a bathroom, or outside the restaurant, then where? All the way back in the car, away from her own food and family? Why should a mother go that far out of her way for the sake of your selfish comfort?

fuck! I hate arguing!
I'm not saying she should have to travel far and wide to satisfy my selfish comfort, but jesus fuck! in the middle of a restaurant, even an idiot like you should maybe think, just for a second, that it MIGHT be a little weird for the people trying to enjoy their meal? come on!
argh! I'm done arguing! count it as a personal victory, or whatever, but arguing about something like this is such a waste of time.

If you want to be such a fucking idiot nazi about it you should move over to bitch and moan, but not everyone wants to see a woman breastfeeding a kid in the middle of dinner, yes they can look away but in the middle of a resturant is a bit much, just take 5 mintutes to read through the other posts and realize that not everyone HAS TO be ok with stuff like that in public.

So you propose some sort of breastfeeding room for women, then? If not, where should the mothers go?
The mother knows the difference, and shouldn't have to go out of her way and leave her own meal for the sake of people who can't manage to look away.
What do you mean "in the middle of a restaurant"? So sitting at her own table minding her own business is just right in the middle of the restaurant, screaming for everyone to look at it?
If you're offended it's your own problem, and thus you should leave, not the mother. It's not her job to make sure you aren't offended or distraught by the natural act of feeding her fucking child. Get over it.
You don't have to be alright with it, but don't try to assert that women should have to leave the room or attach some horrible stigma to it. That makes you an asshole.

Well it's a good thing in Canada most places it's not illegal for women to have their shirt off even if their not breastfeeding. So even if it did offend people you could not be kicked off of a plane or a store or anywhere unless it has a sign saying "No shirt, No shoes, No service"

I agree with d krunk.
If it bothers you, look away. Breasts were intended for breast feeding, any uncomfortable or sexual stigma attached to them, is literally a result of your dirty mind, the mother shouldnt have to suffer for that.
Shes not gonna do it in the bathroom because of hygiene concerns, shes not gonna fucking do it outside in the cold, you probably wouldnt like her doing it in any kind of entrance hall... whats left?

Re: Nursing women
It makes me uncomfortable when I see a breastfeeding woman in public. I understand I don't have the right to ask her to stop, or to leave a plane. She has a right to be there, and there is nothing sexual about the act itself.
BUT, that being said, there are limits to what is appropriate. In my oppinion: The woman on the bench should not have been disturbed, if she was being as discreet as possible in her current location.
The woman on the plane should have asked the stranger sitting next to her if it was okay. The crew had no right to kick her off. But its just basic consideration for the person next to you. OTHER PEOPLE EXIST. If the person said that it would be weird, she could have asked the flight crew for somewhere she could go besides the bathroom to feed her baby- somewhere outside of pulic view. And yes, it is strange for a random person to whip out a brest, and not everyone should have to see that- it is a private matter.
The woman in the restraunt was wrong. If she was in a side booth, maybe. But in the middle of the room, she was too conspicous. It is not your God given right to do what you damn well please all the time. A restraunt aims to have a particular atmosphere, and just like some require you wear ties and shoes and shirts... most require that you not display any public nudity.
You have a right to feed your child. You have a responsibility to choose the correct location and situation to do so. Brest feeding is different than most other functions- it requires partial nudity. People are sensitive to that.

exactly!! It is legal and it is there right, however that does not mean the world revolves around them just because they afre feeding a kid at the moment, a restuarant is too public i'm sorry if you disagree but people are sensitive to it. Personally it wouldn't bother me in most cases, but in a restuarant like that yes it would, and d krunk if you like the idea of a breastfeeding room go ahead and make some, but until then i disagree with the fact that it should be ok no matter where and when, it should be partially concealed at least.

unbelievable??
/Is just pissed that I'm not the one sucking on a boobie.

Re: Nursing women
There is a time and a place for feeding a baby?!
So that must mean that there is a time and a place, then, where a hungry infant should not be offered his dinner? I disagree strongly.
Why should a woman who has a baby have to go into a seperate room (even if it's not a bathroom) away from her family and her own dinner to feed her infant?
Bottles aren't natural. I don't have a problem with pople giving their children bottles but no woman should feel like she has to give her child a bottle. Some children never have a bottle and that is beautiful and healthy and fine.
Eating is normal and nessessary, and we live in a time now when pregnant women and women with infants are no longer expected to hide in their homes, and not go out in public.
Grow up.
The time is when your baby is hungry.
The place is where you are when he wants to be fed.
Simple as that.

Re: Nursing women
Brest feeding in front of family is fine. They are family, they know the woman and they are probably aware of the possibility that she may breast feed her infant in front of them.
However, in a place such as a restraunt, the woman and her family are not the only ones to consider. What if the next table over has a child they don't feel like explaining the act of brest feeding to? It is not that woman's place to say "grow up and teach your child about human anatomy already!"
myscars I agree that the time to feed your child is when they are hungry. But for whever that time arises, the place may not always be appropriate for brest feeding, considering the circumstances. Again, I agree that no one should feel they have to bottle feed. If the time comes and I have a child, I hope that I will be able to brestfeed because of the benefits it offers to the baby.
But to assume that anywhere is okay is to ignore the feelings of others around you. Places such as restraunts and theaters are designed to cast a particular mood for the event they are hosting. One should respect the atmosphere for the sake of others, and make an effort to do what is necessary as discreetly as possible. If you cannot abide by such simple common curtesy, then by all means, expect for someone to say something to you, or ask you to leave.

Luckily it's illegal to kick a woman out of somewhere for breastfeeding if she has the right to be there otherwise. It's not common courtesy when it's entirely within one's power to look away. It really is that simple. There are no flashy lights or giant signs pointing to the breastfeeding woman, drawing attention to what she's doing. If you refuse to look away because it makes you uncomfortable or offends you then it's your problem, not the mother's.

Shitting in the middle of a restaurant is not the same as making sure your child can eat in a restaurant. There are bathrooms to shit in. A restaurant is a place where people eat, and that's exactly what breastfeeding accomplishes.
The two aren't even comparable. Breastfeeding is not obscene in any way, does not create a horrible odor, does not leave a pile to clean up. That you could compare them says a lot about how you think of women.

Re: Nursing women
In the case of the parents, they made a decision to be parents by not exposing their child to that area of life until a certain age. A woman who indiscriminately brestfeeds her infant in a public location in full view is violating their choice as parents.
Same reason why television shows have ratings, and regular television has regulations concerning what they can and cannot show.
There are many things that people are legally allowed to do. That does not make them socially acceptable or right. It wouldnt have been to hard for the woman to request a booth to the side of the restraunt to where she was partially hidden.
But this is getting ridiculous a bit. Most restraunts that are so expensive as to have dress codes and other restrictions are not child friendly. I think it is a rather rare occurance when a mother would bring her infant with her in those instances.
Regardless, I still believe that in all actions some consideration to the general public around you should be given.

Re: Nursing women
i have to admit, when a woman unbuttons her shirt and lets her boob drop out suddenly in public, it is a bit of a shocker. it's just unexpected. there's an unwritten social rule that you're just not supposed to expose certain parts of your body at certain times or places. nipples on planes sounds like it goes under that umbrella. i just wouldn't expect to see it.
after reading this thread, however, it has come into my awareness that that is pretty silly. as long as the mother's not practicing exhibitionism, it should be ok.

Re: Nursing women
It's sad when the most natural act one can do with breasts is not "socially acceptable or right". Look around at some billboards, what do you see? Much more sexuality than there will ever be in a woman breastfeeding a child.
Breastfeeding is not obscene, not sexual, and not something children should be protected from knowing of.
"they made a decision to be parents by not exposing their child to that area of life until a certain age"
WHAT area of life? The one where a hungry baby gets fed? At what age would that be appropriate?
Because, if memory serves, it's pretty appropriate for infants who want to eat and not have a blanket on their head. Or mothers who don't want to have to shuffle off to a secluded place in the middle of her own meal just to spare a few people the clearly painful act of averting their eyes because they aren't comfortable with a woman feeding her baby (a clean, harmless, and pure act that is the furthest thing from obscene or inappropriate).
If you're offended with something that is not, in any way, obscene or grotesque, your only recourse is to deal with it. You have no justification in implying that breastfeeding somehow isn't "right".

Re: Nursing women
Breastfeeding is wonderful.
I don't think women should be made to stop.
Of course people can be subtle about it, but I'm not offended either way.
It's sad to think that breastfeeding like that might stop one day - not that it will, but just breastfeeding spontaniously like that looks so motherly and human. Bonding ftw.
I have a thing about tits anyway - I mean I find it annoying that the law can say when women can and can't show their boobs. Apparently they can for breastfeeding, but anything else is just sexual in their opinion.
I hate to sound like a hippie feminist pagan type(pardon the stereotype), but it would make it much easier if women could reveal their upper clothing legally. It doesn't mean everyone would run around topless and reduce the sexual value of breasts.. it'd just make me feel happier to have the choice.
Boobs are nice!

People don't like watching breast feeding. It's just an opinion many peole share, you can't judge them for that. Now explain to me why these people should be forced to put up with this? It is possible for women to have normal, healthy breast-feeding rich lives without offending others. If you can't plan your life around your baby you probably shouldn't be a mother.

Who decides what is illegal though? The majority. If the majority made t illegal to breast feed in public, would you suddenly support the other side?
And since you can admit to fantasising about me flopping my wang out in a public place, i can admit that i personally have no problem with nursing in public, but i'm still right.

Please, don't flatter yourself that much. Public exposuer just makes me laugh, espeically when they're caught.
I don't class breast feeding as public exposure. MOST women are pretty discreet about it really, keep their shirt down as far as possible and the baby normally covers the rest. I just think people shouldn't be so uptight!
And I highly doubt it would be illegal because its not intended to disgust or to offend people like pulling your cock out in public is.

Re: Nursing women
The intent is meaningless.
It's the result which matters.
It is classless. It is vulgar. It should be a felony which results in the woman going to prison for at least 3-5 years. Further, the most important part of any punishment legislated would be the immediate termination of all her parental rights.
Sex offenders do NOT belong having children.

Re: Nursing women
Nursing women may have the right to do it anywhere, but they need to understand that some people may be offended. I'm not, personally, but if they expect people to be considerate and allow them to do it (especially in public but privately-owned places such as restaurants, where the owner would be perfectly within their rights to forbid breastfeeding or ask the mother to leave), they should be considerate as to the sensibilities of others. It's not hard to discreetly turn away to face the back of the booth where you're sitting, or otherwise position yourself so that people can't see directly.

Yeah because I've meen around a LOT of nursing women and I've never seen an entire beaqst exposed that had milk dripping out of it. I mean, sometimes mine would leak, especially in the beginning, but that was always when I wasn't nursing and needed to be doing it.
And just for the record, my baby would've had a freak out if I'd tried to feed her a bottle...Ever. So what do you find more offending? A nursing mother or a shrieking baby? Because let me tell you that's what babies do when they want to nurse: SHRIEK. And nursing isn't just about food, it's also about comfort. A lot of times a baby will want to nurse even when it's not hungry.
I wouldn't be opposed to resteraunts having a room (A NICE room) that nursing women could go to to feed their babies. I would've gone to such a room...But on the other hand the room should be OPTIONAL.

Ok.. stop to think about this..
You are passively aggressivly complaining about something..
I get weirded out.. I get uncomforable.
I would never say anything..
Either GROW A PAIR and ask her to stop, to in which you will prolly be slapped..
Or shut the fuck up.
Like others have said.. It's a completely NATURAL thing. You getting weirded out about it means YOU have a problem, not the baby, and not the mother.
If YOU can't stop LOOKING at a woman breast feeding her baby maybe you should excuse yourself from the table, go outside and smoke a cig. AFTER you're done with that.. maybe you'll be cool calm and collected enough to NOT STARE at the boobies.
If a woman breast feeding her baby makes you uncomforable.. I don't wanna know what a woman flawnting her breasts AT you will do. You'd prolly melt into a nervous wreck trying to tell her how nice her boobies are.

As for my contribution, (and i have to make one so im not a hypocrite) i still reckon women should be allowed to breastfeed wherever they want, as long as they do whatevers reasonable to not offend people. For instance in a restaurant, I wouldnt ask her to go in the bathroom/outside or anything, maybey just in a private booth. If there is no booth, nothing can be done and she can do what she wants.

Not that I disagree with the general "they should be allowed to nurse anywhere (within reason)" thing, but a baby isn't even aware of its surroundings apart from on a very basic level, and it certainly won't show preference or aversion to some surroundings over others (apart from preference for ones with comforting and familiar elements, like at home, or aversion to loud, moving or changing environments, which a bathroom isn't). So that's not really an argument you can use, if you're gonna continue arguing the point.

I suppose, but essentially he's asking that human beings be forced to eat in bathrooms. They may not be aware of their surroundings, but that doesn't make it right - child porn victims and familial sex abuse victims often don't realize that what's going on isn't right...that doesn't mean it's right.
Plus, I'm sure mothers don't like interrupting their own meal to take their child to the bathroom so it can eat. At least I know I don't like hanging out in the bathroom for non-bathroom activities (like feeding a child).

Re: Nursing women
Alright, how about just a LITTLE common sense in this thread? The entire argument should be about how society has this sense of ENTITLEMENT to do whatever the fuck it wants whenever the fuck it wants. BULLSHIT!
And guess what...a restaurant is NOT a public place, but instead a business establishment that has the RIGHT to refuse whoever they like and whatever behavior they want. The same for airplanes, golf courses, movie theaters etc. These are NOT PUBLIC PLACES you idiots.
What about discussing the time management aspects of this? Gimme a fuckin break. The mother should KNOW when the baby is going to be hungry. My wife and I have had 2 kids....there are no "surprises". So if you have dinner reservations at 7 p.m., then common sense would dictate you might want to try and feed the kid at around 6-6:30....if for no other reason so the mother doesn't have to be bothered from her meal. And yeah, if your kid wakes up from its nap in the middle of dinner and starts fussing/shrieking then out of COMMON COURTESY for the rest of the world it is YOUR obligation to settle the kid as quickly as possible. If after a minute you can't settle the baby down....then LEAVE THE FUCKING ROOM until it is calmed down. If that is in the kitchen, a restroom, your car, or underneath a bridge...who fucking cares? That is NOT the concern of the dozens of other patrons about YOUR comfort. There are dozens of other people that are spending good money for a nice night out that do NOT want to be disturbed/annoyed/frustrated by your wailing brat because you don't have a clue about parenting, time management, and COMMON COURTESY.
Or how about just get a goddamn babysitter, so EVERYONE can just enjoy their evening in peace???? Think about it for just a fucking minute, I mean really. Saturday night and you need a night out. How much fun are you REALLY going to have worrying about shlepping the kid, the diaper bag, tending to its needs and all the other worries involved in caring for a baby....along with the inconvenience to your other fellow diners. You could have gotten a babysitter and the baby would be in a familiar environment with someone that loves them. (Or at the very least employing a fellow Totsean so they now have money for their weed habit) Baby is happy, you have a nice couple of calming hours away from the kid, and the REST OF THE WORLD isn't being annoyed and inconvenienced by your LOUSY parenting.
Just get OVER YOURSELVES. There are several billion fucking peeps on this planet besides you. This life isn't about what makes YOU feel good and to hell with everyone else that is in your vicinity. GROW THE FUCK UP!

If a woman has the legal right to be there otherwise, the law says she can breastfeed there. You idiot. Anti-discrimination laws apply to these things...if you can't kick someone out for being black, old, a woman, or gay (you can't), you can't kick a breastfeeding woman out. This has gone to state-level courts that ruled in favor of the woman every single time.
36 states have laws with language specifically allowing women to breastfeed in any public or private location. A woman has a right to breastfeed in any location, public or private, where she has the right to be.

D Krunk you are speaking in empty rhetoric. Have you never heard of a business establishment "Reserving the right to refuse anyone"?????
By your logic, if that restaurant was serving someone with a medical condition that was incontinent...then that patron should be allowed to take the wine glass and piss into it under the table because he is "disabled".
Your logic is sketchy at best...profoundly niave at worst.

I don't think you understand. There's no logic involved. This is the law. Period. If a business refuses service to a black man, the owner has a good chance of getting in trouble. Same with a breastfeeding woman. This has happened and gone to court - there isn't any empty rhetoric here - I'm referring to things that have actually happened and been taken to court.

Re: Nursing women
D Krunk you crack me up. Using the weakest argument possible. It reminds me of the drivel that the dykes and fags use when they believe they should be allowed to marry.
Real slow and maybe you'll get it....Comparing race (a state of a person's being that can not be UNCHANGED) to someone's BEHAVIOR is ridiculously absurd. The black person that just walked in the door and is refused entrance is being wronged because he has ZERO control of his skin color. However the idiotic breast feeding mother has MULTIPLE CHOICES in her BEHAVIOR.
And sure you may be able to dig up a link or legal precedent showing how some mother won a lawsuit. Big fucking deal. That still does not make it MORALLY right, nor socially acceptable behavior. If you are going to start reciting supposed "laws" in this twisted country as your "proof" to what dictates common sense...then you have grasped your last straw possible. So because the idiot that won the McDonald's lawsuit spilling hot coffee on themselves... that was "right"????? Sure on some fucked up day in some Bizarro courtroom 12 imbeciles gave that malcontent a judgement in their favor. But its safe to say that COMMON SENSE dictates there was nothing "right" about anything to do with that judgement. I think it would be safe to say that MOST people reading that story would believe it was profound idiocy and nothing more. Just further proof at how/why our society is going right down the toilet.

Re: Nursing women
And the idiotic people who get offended have multiple choices in THEIR behavior: look, don't look, leave.
Argue and cry about it all you want - the law is on the side of the unconditional right of a mother to breastfeed her child. Sorry you find that morally reprehensible enough to compare it to "those dykes and fags"
The McDonald's coffee lawsuit was won because McDonald's kept their coffee at 185 degrees, a temperature at which 3rd degree burns occur within 3 seconds of skin contact. It wasn't about not being warned about the fact that coffee is hot, it was about the unsafe coffee temperature that caused severe third degree burns requiring skin grafts. McDonald's was aware of the risk of serving dangerously hot coffee and had no plans to either turn down the heat or to post warning about the possibility of severe burns. Add to that that McDonald's had settled over 700 other cases of serious injury from their unsafe coffee temperature, and that's why the woman won her lawsuit.
But please, try to convince me that it's somehow morally wrong to breastfeed a child. "People might be uncomfortable" isn't a valid reason - the discomfort of a few perverts who see obscenity in an act does not make it immoral.

Re: Nursing women
I'm not saying breastfeeding is morally wrong. What I AM saying is it is NOT their given right to do whatever the fuck they want, whenever they want to. If someone is offended or management asks them to leave to a more secluded area...then TOUGH TITTIES. Why is HER needs/wants more important then everyone else's? I notice you completely avoided my question about the incontinent disabled person, and are now just repeating the same faulty drivel you started with. It is NOT the responsibility for society to just "get over" other people's behavior...instead it is the obligation of each individual to act in an appropriate manner or suffer the repercussions of said behavior.
If the same woman walked into a restaurant that said "no tank tops" and she insisted she be allowed to wear hers because of sunburn issues (completely NATURAL) does she have the "right" to piss away the rules and common courtesy to other diners....just because of HER problems?
Again, this is NOT an argument about what is/is not decent. I'm talking about the FALSE sense of entitlement that much of our society believes they have.

Re: Nursing women
ok d krunk think about it this way, if this is all about being natural and pure and that bullshit then i could pull my cock out in the middle of a restuarant just because it's natural and if people don't like they can just look the fuck away.
That's crap, me pulling my cock out would make people around me uncomfortable 'cause of course they don't want to see that at dinner time, it would be inconsiderate on my part and it would ruin their dinner. Just because there is a law saying that women can breastfeed wherever doesn't mean the world should warship them and attend to every little want or need they might have, i personally don't care, it's just a breast no big deal, but it's inconsiderate to other people that may not be comfortable with seeing that in the middle of dinner/movie/whatever.
Just try to see it from everyone else's view too, it'd be much nicer to be considerate of the people around you before you breastfeed, again i personally couldn't care less because it's not like it's some vulgar act ..but it's inconsiderate to other customers/pedestrians.

Keep in mind when your whipping out your dick, theres a) no reason for it and b) your probably shaking it in peoples face.
If a kid were mature enough that you could say to him 'just wait a moment while i take you to a better place to be fed' then i would say yeah, move him, but unfortunately, if your kid is that mature, its probably time to stop breastfeeding alltogether.

yeah good point there, well i'm done argueing this anyways, i don't think it should be illegal but consideration and whatnot...whatever it's not like a thread on totse is going to change anything in real life so i don't see point in argueing this anymore. This was a good topic though +1 to the OP.

God you people are stupid. Why argue about it? Next time ANY of you see a woman breast feeding your going to look away and blush and continue on your worthless anti social life. Your not going to take a stand for it. Your not going to make a difference. So why fight about it on an internet message board with a bunch of 12 year olds that think their fucking insignificant opinions matter. Nothing you say will make a difference. That's how it is. Re: Nursing women
I think a woman should be able to breasts feed anywhere she isn't in open veiw while I eat. The same way I move away from people at the bus stop when I have a smoke, she could ask to be seated in the back/in a booth. The airplane thing is just bull.
