Why do people stay in abusive relationships?
Today at the bus stop I witnessed drama unfold.
I got there and there was this guy sitting there (playing loud chavvy music) and I thought nothing of it, maybe hes just waiting for a bus.
Then he got up and left, and about 3 minutes later a girl goes running past the bus stop down a street. Again, thought nothing off it.
Then she returned about 5 minutes later and sat at the bus stop on the right of me.
Then the guy returned too, and sat on the left of me (there was no room on the right).
And there it was. I was sat in the middle of a couple, with the man abusing her.
He was saying shit like "You're worthless. Your life is meaningless" etc etc, you know the sortta shit.
Then she started to cry, and he verbally abused her more. And I was sat in the middle of this. I felt quite awkward and uncomfortable.
Then there bus came and they both got up, and he grabbed her and said something which I couldn't make out, but im sure it was nasty.
I'm also pretty convinced he beats her up as she had a few faint bruises and cuts on her, and she was extremely scared of him. Maybe they are unrelated and im just jumping to conclusions. But it still made me think why.
So why do people stay in situations like that? I really cant figure it out. And why do some men treat women like absolute shit?

Re: Why do people stay in abusive relationships?
After living in the middle of an abusive relationship I can honestly say, it's because, there is no where else for them too go.
Yes, I know they're plenty of places that claim to help against domestic violence but again, having first hand knowledge I know that when you actually turn up seeking help, they don't give a shit!
My mother literally took me and my sister all over the UK, trying to get away from my dad. We spoke to the council who would only place us in shit dirty hostels, each one of us in different hostels, not the same one. If you were being abused, would you want to be separated from the only people you know and trust in a strange new scary place?
We didn't have any family or friends that could or would take us in. We even went to the M.P. who couldn't do anything for us. So after depleting the only money we had. Where did we have left too go?
So where do you think we ended up? Yes back with my abusive dad.
