My Brother Is In Dire Straits, Court On The 19th
So my brother is a bit of a dumbass. So it came as no suprise when I found out that he'd got some chick knocked up.
This is where it differs from your usual 'knocked up teenage girlfriend' tale. She's a bitch. An unholy bitch from the deepest depths of hell, to hear my brother tell it.
She's taking him to court in 6 days to get his parental rights severed. She flat out told him to his face that he's never going to see the baby, and she'll get the court to make him give her all his money.
On that note, she's from a rich family, she's a greedy vengeful whore is what she is. Apparently this strategy worked when her sister got knocked up, so she's making a run at it.
I told him "Unless you knocked her around or have knifed someone lately, that's not likely to happen if you have a decent judge."
Still, I'm concerned. If anyone knows of anything at all that could help, let me know in a hurry.

Depends where you are but here in Mr.Blair's Socialist Paradise even if a court rules AGAINST the mother she can still stop the father seeing the child...even if she is served with even more court orders no action will taken against her.
THE ONLY ADVICE your brother needs is get the best 'Brief' he can afford. Better to spend all his money on a lawyer than have it taken away by a court.

Rule number one. Unless you're in the confines of a loving, healthy relationship, where you both have wanted the child, always get a paternity test. Always.
Secondly, I dont understand how that works. Well, I understand how....just not why. I dont see how the courts can order you to pay child support for a child you're not legally allowed to be involved with. It just doesnt make sense to me.

i disagree with current child support laws. in any case, maybe this will give you a sense of how much child support he will have to pay:

Re: My Brother Is In Dire Straits, Court On The 19th
she take my money, when I'm in need...
Now I ain't sayin she's a gold digger...
man I don't know the law for sure...I'm pretty sure that courts have started to turn away from locking the father out of the relationship like that though. It's pretty obvious that a healthy situation for the baby is two parents, and unless they can prove that your brother is a deadbeat hippie who shouldn't be trusted, you shouldn't have to worry about it...that being said, she's rich. I'm sure there's a Johnny Cochrane equivalent in maine for hire...

idk how the law is in maine, but in NC if you switch jobs every 3 months the govt can't keep up with you to garnish your check. I have seen people running from child support and not paying a dime. Some states will arrest you.

If he's the vindictive type, he can try collecting information and getting witnesses to just how much of a bitch she is. Defaming her character will be the only way he can hope to have a part in his child's life. I know that sounds shady, but it's his child just as much as it is hers.
The court systems in America are incredibly unfair to biological fathers. He needs to make it well known that he is dedicated to the life of his child, and he wants very much to be a part of it. Unless he's a criminal, which you pointed out, he should have nothing to worry about.
Jack mentioned that there is little the courts can do to force her to let him see his kid, and his only recourse would be to take her to court every time she refuses.
He's got a long hard, battle ahead, and I wish him the best of luck.
