Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
Let's say that after dating someone for a few weeks/months, you start to really wonder why they never actually go out to a physical job, and so you ask them where all the money is coming from. They decide to tell you the truth, since they don't want to be dishonest with you, so they tell you that they make their money illegally.
How would you react? Would you break up with them? Would you just not care? Would it depend exactly what kind of crimes they're committing?

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
It honestly depends one what you're doing. There are different levels of social acceptability for different crimes. Depending on the crowd and person, they might even like it.
I'd say it depends more on you than on what you do for money. Whadda ya do for money honey?

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
If they made their income in a way that directly harmed themselves or other people, then I might be a bit miffed.
Like, if she was a mugger, I'd be miffed. If she dealt drugs, I'd be ok. If she let men pay her to punch her in the face, I'd be miffed.
I don't know man. I think it does depend; I wouldn't mind if someone I knew was a prostitute, for instance, if it was in some sort of legal brothel; I don't know if I could get involved with a prossie though.
Tough call dude.

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
Depends where you personally 'draw the line'. My Ex hated my criminality (which wasn't much, in my book).
We are all just trying to make it through the day. We all have bills to pay and food to put on tables.
Some people are thieves, some sell guns, some drugs and some themselves.
Some, even, are 'citizens'
Everyone has different standards of what is right, everyone draws that line differently.
If my partner was criminal, that wouldn't bother me over much. I'd probably be more narked about her 'working' at all...I'm kinda old fashioned.

I wouldn't have a problem with it. Exception: if she was an assassin. Then it's just plain hot.
I used to be involved in some stuff, and the neither of the two chicks I went out with while it was going on really cared, one was even the prissy, preppy type, she just told me to, "be careful" a lot.

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
It would really depend on what it was. If someone was a prostitute, (highly unlikely since most male prostitutes are not straight) there's no way I would be ok with it. If they dealt drugs like weed and X, that I would be ok with, but if it was something hard like coke and heroin, I couldn't do that either.
You need to consider whether this person's "illegal profession" puts you in any kind of danger of getting hurt or getting arrested. Forget ethics, it could land you in some serious trouble.

A lot of girls would go for it just because it makes them feel like they're "living life on the edge".
It situationally depends on what it is, though.

I don't think I could date a female drug dealer, it just wouldn't feel right. Then again, ya never know, I might.
Prostitute? Hell no, my girl fucks me and me alone.
Thief? No, not petty thief, but if she was into stealing some seriously nice shit or happened to be extra good at knocking off banks, that might be cool. Kind of a fantastic way of thinking about it but...yeah.

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
i had alot of girls interested in me and dated a couple while i was dealing...they didnt care...because they didnt care ABOUT me.my current girlfriend when she found out it didnt bother her at first, she probably thought it was hot too at the time, then the longer we were dating it bothered her, wich is when i realized she REALLY cared about ME,not the money.she saw the things that nobody else really seemed to notice...was that that profession strained and drained me and she knew i wasnt tough enough to go to jail...most of all,she didnt want to lose me BECAUSE i went to jail...
so i quit, sobered up and live a legit lifestyle.she is still by my side to this day, even through some really shitty times that im still just barely getting out of.
sometimes i miss the game, but i know that im better off with her and a honest life.because its not just your significant other...that will find out.everyone who knows you or knows of you WILL find out eventually.family, friends, acquaintences and such.i thought it was cool at the time, now when i hear about friends picking up the habit i worry.i tell them "you get that gut feeling the heat is on...drop it...cuz its not worth it"
then i reminisce and think about the fame, money and bitches.

You need to ellaborate on that one.
Do you mean prostitution? Drug dealing? Gun smugling? Selling small children on the black market?
Or do you mean such criminal attrocities such as selling Giant african land snails in the USA?

I couldn't date a drug dealer... no way.
Most criminal professions which make a steady enough revenue to support someone, never mind a small family, would be a little too risky for me.
I'm no angel, but Id rather take risks myself than my partner take them constantly.

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
Woah, everyone is thinking drug dealing.
I was thinking more along the lines of white collar crime or like fraud and stuff like that. The kind that, if you're good at it, obviously no one will know you actually do it. That's why in my scenario, the person you're dating is wondering why you live like someone with a six figure income yet you never seem to do anything.
Drug dealing is (to me) still a lot like your typical 9-5 job. Only usually it's 9 pm to 5 am.
I don't know if I'd date a dealer. It depends if it meant that I'd have crackheads and junkies up in her/my/our house all the time or not. A constant supply of drugs would be pretty fucking cool though. So it's kind of a toss-up.
If I was dating someone who was making money any other way than a regular job, I'd want to know what it was. If I was cool with it, I'd most likely want in on it. Home invasions and muggings and stuff I wouldn't be cool with. I also wouldn't date a hit-woman or anything.
I guess you could call me a hypocrite, but I'm alright with any kind of fraud (credit card, bank/check fraud, identity theft, etc), but I really can't stand people that rob people either in a violent manner, or even just straight from their house. The violent ones are the worse though.

It would depend what it was. Date them? Maybe.
Have a relationship with them? Probably not. Just due to the emotional stress there would be if they were to get caught.

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
I'm happy I'm with someone who accepts my criminality. I don't work, my girlfriend does, so the gaps are filled when we need money. Without going into details the only problem is the rushes of cash, some days it will be a lot of money, whilst some weeks I will have nothing. You usually know the right moment to tell someone things like this; some people will take kindly to it, whilst others won't (but you probably wouldn't ever tell them). From experience, you KNOW beforehand if someone will accept it and you keep it a secret from those who don't.

Somehow I doubt that. Then you have to deal with cops pointing guns at you as well as criminals. And, here in the states at least, it carries very heavy penalties.

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
I've been in this situation several times. Not exactly dating them but strong relationships.
If they're not into bettering themselves then I don't think it's such a good idea. If you really like them and want to help them, it's hard, but they have to be willing to get help. Otherwise they'll bring you down.
You could end up living in muck and struggling to make due, while you have a lot of emotional drama. Most people can't deal with situations like that. If you're not strong, don't do it.

Maybe it's just me, but i've found it strange that many people have a thing against thievery, but not against drug dealing. I'd be just the opposite, but then again, i've had one girl break up with me for that very idea - i was a thief, and it bothered her. On the other hand, i've also gone out with a girl who wanted to get involved in it when she found out. so i guess it's more of an idividual morality issue.

I've dated people who sold drugs, and I find that it's strangley arousing. It was also pretty nice to look at two pounds of bud in the closet and a blotter in the freezer.
Drug dealers aren't all horrid fiends out to rob everyone, take it some are, but the ones I dated were friendly, legitamate guys who found a lot of skunky bud.
I dated a guy who sold coke for a little while, and as far as I know he never did anything scandelous.

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
I shouldnt be writing this, but my bf was going to go do a favour for this big ass mafia sort of thing, and would get 1 mil, for it, and it would be clean and shit, and he knows people who'd do it and make it smooth, without getting too involved, and the had already created a Swiss bank account for him, etc, etc, i made him back out of it, because sure he can make a mill with a small favour, but getting involved with a big ass mafia, and what if they want you to do more shit for them ,etc etc..you'd get fucked, cause he's got some friends in it..rather have eachother and go to uni, become a DR than get an easy Million, and not know what' s gonna happen to you.
If he hadn't listened to me, and thought about the possibilities himself, i would be torn really. . he's a genius at trafficing plans, etc, he used to teach other people to do it, and spread it, rather than do it himself when he was quite a bit younger 20 something..etc. He got out of that as well...
bed time for me.

Jesus, haven't you see Scarface?
Once again Carbon B is right. You for the most part DO NOT want a drug dealer boyfriend. I mean there are some like myself that are just decent guys trying to make a living but most are the dumb fuck nigger type that treat women like shit, dont care about ANYONE else but themselves and money, would easily have you take the fall then them go to jail. Plus they are not around the best type of people, crack heads and addicts are not great people to be around. Don't be one of the dumb bitchs that thinks its glorious. I mean I cannot honestly say that if I hadn't been fucked over and started loosing profits due to that that I still WOULDN"T be selling or that I didnt enjoy my time but trust me its not worth it which is why I got out I had a brother that almost did 5-10 and he was making "Decent" money but definatly not enough to loose even 2 years of life.
Gadzooks I have no clue what kind of drug dealers you have or met or what ever but it definatly isn't a 9-5 job. Its a what ever time job, I used to have people call me asl ate as 2am and throughout the day. And it is definatly not a 9-5 job in the sense that YOU decide when you work> Thats what I LOVED about it, Id be hanging out with friends get a call be like "yo i can get that in an hour or two ill hit you up" then when im done hanging out or doing what I wanted bam take it to them. So I mean its defiantly not anything like a 9-5.
As for would I date a girl thats into illegal stuff, the things you listed like white collar crimes FUCK yes I would nothing wrong with that as long as shes not getting the money from regular joes, if its some big companys or millionares then fuck yes go her. If I found out the girl I was getting with now drug dealed id try to get her to stop but I wouldn't not date her. Straight up robbery shit like that yea but again id talk her out of it because with the military ima be making enough money to take care of her. Prostitution HELL NO. Anything else im alright with only problems id have is her being an assasin(unless its for like drug dealers and shes just killing rival drug dealers not innocent people that some guy gets mad at), a whore, straight up theif.
Oh and to the guy that dissed carbon B its not just the shit ones its almost all of them even myself a tiny bit. Most of them start out poor as fuck and then get rich, what you see on tv the going to clubs, spending bookoo fucking bucks at the club fucking just spending money likes its nothing really is true. So most the drug dealers I knew it was obvious I mean they could lie but even before I foudn out they were drug dealers for sure(my brother and his friends hence why I didnt ALways know cuz yea brother hid it), you always got a feeling they sold drugs or something because all the nice cloths, nice car, all that shit. I mean they aren't obvious and draw attention to themselves with their customers that they are carefull about but living it up and shit it does draw attention not to mention the fact that unless they have a good alibi as to were the money comes from then yea its already even more obvious.

It depends on teh manner in which they deal drugs... like if they're a casual dealer, that's cool. If they're violent, that's defintely not cool with me.

I love how you tell me that life isn't the movies and then ask if I've seen Scarface.
I haven't actually seen it, I've tried a couple times but I couldn't get into it.
I want my boyfriend to deal pot, that's no big deal. Then we might actually have some cash plus lots of weed to smoke. I don't know if I'd date a coke dealer. Well I would if he didn't use because coke heads are too crazy/unreliable.

Re: Would you date someone who's main source of income was not exactly legal?
Depends heavily on the crime. If it was fraud, drug dealing or stealing i would be fine with it becuase i'm already involved already. Violent crime is a no no, protitution likewise. I don't like high risk things, only things that pay of well when you compare them to the risks.

Is that about me? Because I'm a dude, and I'm the one who's main proceeds (hypothetically) come from crime, which is why I pose this question to begin with.
