Default A good long distance relationship

well, this is different.

my friend introduced me to this girl online about 4 months ago who lived in another town, about 100 miles away. we started talking and after a while were pretty much obsessed with each other, though we had never met each other. pretty normalish right? wrong. im in alaska motherfuckers. no roads here. that means ferry or plane to see my baby. i have seen her twice since we met, and we had fun. heh.

the thing is, though i miss her, i can deal with this long distance. maybe because i met her online? i expect i would be pretty freaked out like "oh shit i dont get that many kisses " or something, but we both know how to deal with sexual frustration. i really like her, and we're having fun.

we have talked about our lives way in the future, like a couple of little kids playing house, but i really think she is different, maybe the one.

sounds like we will be going to college in the same area, but that is a few years away.

think i can make it? i do.

or am i a fuckhead?

You're a fuckhead - you've hardly spent any time with her, you met her online and think already that she "is the one".

And 100 miles is not a long distance relationship. 300 miles with a girl that you've been seeing for two years is.

It isn't stupid..

I'm basically going through the same thing, except it is nearly 600 miles, and we have to wait at least a year to see each other. But I'm so determined for this to work..

Basically, never give up hope. Keep trying.

I've spent the last two years (just about, it's a little short of that actually) in a long distance relationship with the girl i love.

I've learned a thing or three, so listen up. if you keep it long distance, then it will start to become an on/off relationship. If you and her really do have strong feelings for eachother, then you can get through this until you're together. but if not, it will eventually end.

Also - make plans to get together, and keep to them. when you go back on your plan to see her, she'll lose faith in you whether it was your fault or not. This only creates more distance between you.

Most importantly, plan to get together permanently if you want the relationship to last. This is the most important thing you can do, so if the two of you are up for it, one (or both) of you needs to relocate. if you want it to last. I'm not saying you have to do it now, but the longer you wait, the worse your chances are.

Good luck, they're not easy, but if both people are willing to put in the effort, then you'll get through.

We will, for sure

It is hard, quite. But if you both devote yourselves to getting together one day, then it'll work out. Not a stupid idea at all =P

Meh, I met a guy online once. Except, we lived in the same town and my friend introduced us because they were friends. We talked for about 2 months before we met each other, I was at my dad's house because it was summer time. I hung out with him once and I thought I could fall in love with him. When we finally established an official relationship, it didn't take me 2 weeks to realize how annoying he was and how wrong we were for each other.

Anyways, people online are a lot different than in real life. That's one thing I learned from that.

I do think you can make it work if you want to. I made a relationship work for 2 years when I moved to NC first, which is about 500 miles from where the guy lived. We're still extremely good friends. 100 miles is absolutely nothing.

Give it some time, hang out more before you decide whether or not you're going to commit yourself to something.

Edit: typo

Haha, when I was like 12, I met this girl online. She lived some 300 KM away from me. We always talked, and and everything was so perfect. I thought taht we were perfect for each other. I met her once and everything was good. She came to my town for a little while and I realised she was nothing that I wanted. I knew i could've figured that out in a second if I actually hung out with her.

Sorry man, 99 times out of 100, it won't work.

Ps, any hot girls in Alaska?

Yeah, that was my guess too. Its a bit unfortunate when you see this happening, because it almost appears to be transparent because they dont have full control over their lives yet.. i.e. parents and stuff.

But OP, I really do hope things work out for you.

Regardless of how old he is, he has to make his own mistakes. who the hell knows, maybe he'll get lucky and this won't be one of them. you can't really expect to end up with your dream girl without taking a few risks, right?

That is exactly right, I couldn't agree more. That's why i'm wishing the best of luck to them'. Its the risks that people take that make the relationships so good. Like my girlfriend told me her feelings for me back when we were in the 'friends stage' and its that risk that she took that evolved to something as great as this.

Yeah, i guess so. I'm not gonna lie, i'm moving across the country for a girl this summer, so i understand what he's dealing with. then again, i've known mine for almost two years... but still, i realize it's a huge risk i'm taking.

And if he feels that the risk is worth it, well, maybe he's in love. it's really not my place to judge. quite frankly, i'm amazed that this many people have experience with long distance relationships.

Either way, i also wish you good luck.

It is possible to have a good long distance relationship. My boyfriend and I met on Totse over a year ago, and have been together for 9 months. We both already know we're meant for each other, and have major plans for the future. We've only been together twice; on two separate weekends, for whole weekends. We might fight a lot, but I know that it's only because we're so far apart most of the time. And in time, once we're together, it'll be absolutely perferct.

That's very comforting to hear, things have been a little rough between my significant other and myself lately.

I'm glad our story can give you hope =)

It's all about trust. If a long distance relationship is gonna work, you HAVE to trust each other on an EXTREMELY personal level.

That, and an equally strong willingness to sacrifice from time to time when it serves your relationship best. i think with long distance, you have to put your relationship before yourself a lot more often then in a "standard" relationship. maybe i'm wrong, but that's how it seems to me.

Yes, that definitely makes sense. A long distance relationship requires much more care than a normal one because it is so easy to lose the person you're with.

Hey everybody. wow. more than 20 responses. i guess you all deserve to hear more.

i will most likely get to live with her or at least near her, as we will both be going to univirsities in seattle.

i have barely even seen her yes, i suppose, but i spend about 4 hours a night on average talking to her each night, phone or usually MSN. i have about 250 pages of chat that my computer logged, and i actually probably deleted half that much more at one time.

and neither of us are the type of people that have a lot of boyfriends or girlfriends. we are talking single digits for both of us.

and she's a redhead. i fucking love that hair. a real redhead.

hot girls in alaska?

depends on what you like. The basic rallying cry of alaska girls is "alaska girls kick ass", you see bumper stickers everywhere. ak girls are a lot less likely to be prissy and "girly" than your down south (lower 48) girls. we still have our barbies, but they are a little harder to find up here.

if you like pale, we got pale. not a lot of tanning going on up here, (lol, sun? what?) though the barbies generally go to those tanning places.

and they are wild here. crazy as hell. and you know what they say about crazy girls...

i like em more than seattle girls.

peace out y'all

snokannon

EDIT: OP? that aint me is it? origional poster? maybe.

I am 17

Yeah, so I'm in Texas and she's Canadian. I don't care. We've already lasted longer than most people with "normal" relationships I know of.

Long-distance can be a really general term. Like I was in a relationship for 3 years with someone who lived 1 hour and 40 mins away by train (excluding extra bus travel.. damn countryside).

At the time -which was from age 13 to 16- it seemed quite a long way away, because of the cost of seeing each other, and the fact we couldn't see each other any time we felt like it, but had to plan a bit. While we were in this relationship I moved first to London (from Yorkshire), and then to Spain, while he remained in the same place. So I've experienced different levels of distance. It's fucking hard to be in a relationship like that, it hurts so much to be parted.. which is kinda how it had to end, although there were other reasons.

I think that living further away from someone makes you appreciate them in a different way, though, and not take them for granted. When they work out, you know they're the right person, but I can see it's easy to just fail at the whole long distance thing.

The only way they will work is if you both want it and trust each other.

Love is all you need.

And to everyone saying it wont work:

Don't be mad you met some dumb bitch in an Aohell chat room, became infatuated and thought you two were going to last forever together.

Sure its unrealistic but it does depend on the person. Not everyone can have a long distance relationship.

If you can keep this up, you will be proving something for all of us who have ever had a long distance relationship. 100 miles eh? seems like a short distance... but when it seperates you from your lover, well, it is a long distnace. I've got the same thing going on, and we're ( my lover and I ) on seperate islands. it really does suck. anyways, keep up teh good work dude, you're proving something for all of us.

Hey everyone. a little update for y'all- it is likely that both of us will be in the same city, or at least within driving distance, within 2 years.

that seems like a hell of a long time, but, unlike in any relationship i have ever had before, i dont feel trapped. i dont wish i could date other people at all. i am completely happy and content with this girl.

i am also a hopeless romantic, which is, most likely, related to why i am happy with what we have. i have talked to her, and she feels the same way. we both have unhealthy obsessions with each other, and this makes me think we can easily hold it together.

all you flamers, here is a sentence that will get you burning:

i honestly think that we are made for each other.

i have had relationships before, and, though i hate to be cliche, this one is far different than anything i have ever felt before.

thanks for everything, people of totse,

-SnoKannon
