Anyone else think mobile phones represent the end of civilised society?
Remember way way way way waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in like 1996 when virtually nobody had a mobile?
I saw one of those fucking perverte anime shows the other day, and the students who were in like junior high all went on strike because the teacher confiscated their mobile phones. The main character was saying "how are we supposed to live without our mobiles??"
I know this is a cartoon, but people please, we survived and indeed prospered before the masses were issued (nowadays its usual for elementary schoolers!) cell phones. Yoyobek's thread about the massive texting has kinda set me off.
I have a mobile but i routinely ensure it loses its charge and stays like that for weeks. The feeling that people can get in contact with me 24/7 turns me shy, i feel like im plugged into the system whenever i have it on me. Do people no longer need solitude? Is there really anything that important that it won't wait a couple of hours for the message to work its way back to you? This isn't to mention the fact that between email, MSN and your conventional landline most of the time you can be contacted instantly anyway.
Throw your mobile in your panties (mwahahaha love that word) draw for one week and notice the change, i guarantee you you will be better for it.

I know this chick who routinely spends about $120 a week on her fucking phone.
God damn some people should be lynched.

I have no landline and I rarely use my cell. There is a chance that I might use it once or twice a day, but that is about it.
I hate talking on the phone, but want it for those necessary calls and emergencies.
Oh. I have no clue how to text message either.

I'm exactly the same except I know how to text message. It's much less personal than actually talking to someone.

I thought it was a pain just programming people's names and numbers into my phone. :P

Re: Anyone else think mobile phones represent the end of civilised society?
I really like my cellphone, considering its my main form of communication with people, since I hate using a landline. So meh you can call me a slave to conform to society or what ever analysis you like but let others be if they enjoy communicating like that.
One could almost say the same for the internet.. i lke that too

I can't see any S&A connection either...even by my very loose definition of 'Affection'.
=> SG (although it could go to T&T) I 'pose
