WTF? here's a little background info. We don't get on. I've tried several tims to be friends, to let bygones be bygones but each time she's made it plain she wasn't interested. We haven't talked for about 5 months and it was certainly not on good terms.

And then, she texts me, the guy she "doesn't like" (in a friendly way, her words), to tell me her uncle died in a car crash, the one who gave us a lift to in the middle of the night wellington over a year ago.

wtf? Why? She's made it clear she doesn't want to be friends before. Why would she do this? The callous part of me suspects it's because she knows I'm usually very nice and sympathetic, and now she's crawling back to me. Added to the fact that I think now is when her japanese boyfriend would've gone back home...I suspect she may be contacting me for that.

I have a girlfriend I love more than anything, and my ex is a bitch, so I don't really care, but WTF!?!?!

Sympathy from as many people as possible.

I did do that, because her name was deleted on my phone.

I replied "I'm sorry to hear that". I didn't really want to be an asshole about it, but I don't want to invite me listening to her moan. she never did for me.

i'd say the "callous" part of you, is, in fact, correct. however, i don't recommend being an ass to her. after all, her family member just died. why use her time of need to show your disdain for her?

use your conscience, but realize that she is someone who was shitty to you in the past and may very well be in the future. therefore, maintain a balance between friendly sympathy and guarded distance. a lot of people may recommend being an ass to her as a form of payback, but i don't endorse this plan of action because it doesn't seem necessary and it really only has the effect of perpetuating your view of yourself as a "callous" person, which you don't have to be.

Just tell her politely that you would prefer that she never contacted you again, and that you are sorry to hear her uncle died.

The reason I even said that and not just "why the hell are you texting me about it?" or "fuck off" was because of my current girlfriend, which just goes to show you what a nice person Zoe is.

Ex hasn't said anything, so I assume that's the end of that. Peoples behaviour perplexes me sometimes.
