I got a minor this weekend and ive been debating on whether or not to tell my parents. My friends have all told me to tell them, and i probably will, but i would just like to get additional feedback/my story out.

Im 19 gunna be 20 in a couple of weeks, and the big reason why i don't want to is because ive only been with my family for 2 years. Some shit happened with my mom and so i ended up leaving and moving in with these people. They have been amazing, and im sure they will kidna cool about it, but i know they don't want me drinking and they are going to assume that i have been drinking all semester, which i haven't.

It just tough, because i have really started feeling apart of the family since christmas of last year, but more thoroughly since this summer. I stayed up at school and did summer classes and it wasn't a good experience, and i really felt finally fully apart of the family.

The other big thing is that ove christmas break we are supposed to go to colorado to visit their family. And with telling them about my minor when i get back im going to feel really bad, especially with it so close to christmas and the fact that im pretty broke as is.

On the topic of the minor itself, it was kinda bogus and i was pretty much in the wrong place at the wrong time, so that really sucked. It just really came at a bad time and with christmas coming up and me being poor, i feel bad about that too.

Their are other things i would like to discuss, but i think this is enough for now. Thanks guys, i really appreciate it...

it was consumption not possesion i think, so i don't how that affect things and it was more i needed to get this out, its just been really tough. I feel like a fuck up and and i don't want to dissapoint my family, but i just got screwed. And i put in S&A because it dealt with the affection part in my family.

So how about this, How would you go about explaining something to your family, when you feel like youre a major fuck up and you let them down hard core?

Yeah you tell your parents. Yes it will disappoint and hurt them, and yes they may lose a bit of trust in you for a while but it'd hurt them a lot more if they found out some other way.

When you tell them, keep in mind that you have actually done nothing wrong and that in any civilised country it wouldn't be an issue.What I'm saying is don't apologise to them, just admit openly and honestly what happened.

The timing couldn't have been worse too, since finals are in two weeks and my birthday AND christmas are in december so, anyways, thanks and sorry for the confusion.

Well for one your 19 so I doubt they are really going to give a fucking shit. I mean its MIP, its MINOR IN POSSESION. I was told it was going to be around 120 since its my first, thats what im hoping. If its more im kinda in trouble. Though my birthday is in less two weeks so i should be getting some money from that. But the cop said that since this is my first i don't have to show up to court i can just call figure out how much to pay and send the ticket in. Otherwise my court date is January 9th, which kind of sucks.

Its more that i am over dramatizing it in my head, it isn't going to be as bad as i think, but i really don't know. I haven't called the courthouse yet, i plan on doing that within the next week. Anyways thanks.

They are good people, and i know they will understand, its just im basing my intial reactions off of what normally would happen. When i refer to my parents, i am not talking about my biological parents, some shit went down in my senior year of high school and so i went to stay with another family for awhile and ive just become a part of it.

And thats the dumb part about it, because i know how my biological mom would react and i think i know how my other mom is going to react so. Its just that i know my other mom didn't want me drinking and this is going to dissapoint her. I will get points for being truthful though. But i won't know how this is all gunna pan out till prolly a week from friday because thats when i go home, ill let you all know how that works.

Where are you from? Because ive never heard of just being able to mail the shit in for something like that? And yea its your first time but my first time they had me do diverson program which is basically driving school for drugs/alcohol, which costs about $120 or so. Of course then again laws and punisment varies state to state. But shit if you are getting off with a $120 ticket and not having to show up to court you should be happy. Hell ANYTIME ive been to court whether its a parking ticket or MIP ive always expected the tickets at $120-600 if not more. I mean shit I had to pay 150 fucking god damn dollars for a jay walking ticket just because I started to walk LITERALLY 5 seconds before the damn walk thing said WALK i was in the fucking cross walk to. So yea $120 for a MIP and not having to show up to court is LUCKY and should be happy and not worried at all.

But I WOULD DEFINATLY go to the court date and just see if they offer diverson or not, because diverson WIPES it clean off your record so you don't have to put it down on an application and all.

I got it in Minnesota. That was what the officer told me. There something on the back of the ticket that says if you don't show its assumed you are pleading guilty or some shit i dunno. Im really freaking, and its really not about the minor itself. Its my family's reaction...

Quit freaking dude like I said unless your familys physco it won't be that big of a deal. And unless your mom doesn't trust you if you really haven't been drinking that much then she should belive you. And parents understand and I mean yea they will be a tiny bit disapointed but not that much probably.

And yea thats why I said you might want to just show up to the court date and see what happens because if you just go ahead and pay the fine then yes you are pleading guilty which if your not offered diverson or something like it then you will be pleading guilty(unless you want to fight it and pay thousands of dollars for a lawyer and go through lots of trouble). So best bet is just show up to the court date and hope they offer diverson but bring a couple hundred dollars just incase you have to pay the fine that way you get it done right then and be done with it. And quit freaking man you're acting like a bitch. As far as the getting a job and school stuff it shouldnt be that big of a deal ESPECIALLY if you get diverson because then you dont even have to tell them about it unless you want a military job.

If you don't want to tell them and it will cause alot of damage don't. The police won't tell them, and if you live on a campus they can't tell them either. The university can't even show the parents the student's grades.

The minor ticket will be 120-150 depending on the county.

It's "Minor Consumption" by the way, at least that's what they call it here in MN.

You don't have to tell them unless you think there's a chance they could find out. Remember to check the mail too, they send a notice out sometimes to follow-up the ticket for some stupid reason. Just go to the courthouse or pay it by mail. You do not have to go to court for a minor usually.

Well theres this cross walk at my old school and aparntly lots and lots of kids were just walking through without waiting for the light and cars complained because they had to take 10 seconds out of their busy life to wait for a kid to cross. The cops set up a "Sting" they had two cops wait there and gave like 20 kids tickets. Me being one of them which pissed me the fuck off because 1 the thing turned to the walk symbol literrally 5 seconds after I started and cars had stopped for me before I walked so why the fuck make them wait longer? I wanted to punch that cop for wasting my fucking time and $150-190 asshole bitchs.
