Physically, I'm pretty average. About 5ft 7, and 135lb, kind of athletic. I dress like other people do, keep my hair combed and stay cleanly shaven. Girls have said I'm cute and there have been some over the year that I found out liked me, but I guess I just never knew until it was too late (partially the problem).

Personality wise, I have some doubts, and questions. I'm a bit of a geek, I know a lot about computers and chemistry. Do girls not like that? Is it a turnoff if a guy likes pyro? I'm not obsessed with it or anything though. I can get girls laughing pretty easily, I can hold an intelligent conversation no problem. Most people around here are Christians, but I'm an athiest. Do people really care?

How do you know if a girl is interested? That would really help.

Also, how do you let a girl know you like them? I've tried to be nice, and it obviously doesn't work. I've tried to be funny, and..eh. I know people have said to be a jerk and to be cocky, but I'm just not that kind of person by nature. Any advice?

And what about pick up lines, or good ideas for starting conversations? Should I try to be funny and make a joke, or be serious as to not sound like an idiot and a sleeze bag?

Well, as you said, totse will probably provide a great deal of what you'd expect, especially since this is, I'm sure, a question that's posed rather frequently on this board. You'll get people saying the "maybe you like men" or the "be an asshole, chicks dig it when you break their teeth", etc. But I understand why one would seek advice from faceless voices, and the need for some sort of personalized message rather than a pamphlet given to everybody.

The answer, however, will inevitably be very cookie cutter in the whole confidence over cockiness aspect of everything. Meaning to be aware of yourself in the positive aspects of things, and to present yourself as if you believe you are deserving of their attention. This being beneficial because people will associate a lack of this quality with a)a lack of abilities to deserve this quality (regardless of any actual talents you may possess), and b)that, once involved with you, you will become an attached, needy, whiny little prick acquiring all of your vindication and sense of self-hood from them. They want a partner, or maybe someone to show them a thing or two about life.

As for religion: yes it matters....to some people. It shouldn't matter to most as long as you don't go flaunting it around calling christians mental mimdgets and the like, but it also shouldn't really matter to you if it matters. Ok, I'm going to make an assumption and assume that you're an atheist because you draw conclusions that it's illogical based on your professed interest in computers and the like meaning that you appreciate dry, sterile, empirical evidence with clear-cut answers. A real to-the-point kind of guy. And I can appreciate that. If this is you and you find yourself in a relationship with a devote christian won't their constant confidence in unexplained faith just annoy the piss out of you?

You should seek somebody that completes you, or at least compliments your life, rather than a relationship for the sake of being in a relationship. This provides much more fertile grounds for happiness.

I hope I've made sense, I feel so terribly ill and just want to go home and crawl into bed. But I have an extremely hot girlfriend who is absolutely amazing, so you should listen to me.

it's been said before and it'll be said again, carbon you should refrain from giving advice as apparently your pool of knowledge comes more from idealism and social resentment than actual experience. good people like to go out and have fun too, it's just the louder ones that get noticed.

and to the OP: if you like computers and chemistry, talk to the girls who do well in your comp and chem classes. maybe work on a project together or something. even if it doesn't lead to a relationship, you may make a good friend and remember, most girls are friends with other girls. get into a social circle and work it from there.

Actually in a way carbon made sense. He's basically saying be happy with you are because if you go around modifying yourself to get girls they will just wind up fucking you over in the end and you will be much more unhappy then you are now. Thats not saying you should let all the crazy out at once, but don't comprimise who you are for girls.

Though you won't meet any girls just sitting at home behind a comp all the time, so just go out and have fun and you'll get some.
