The Science of Love
All emotions are merely a form of love; whether it be the lack of it or an excess of it. Love is possibly the most important and most powerful force one will ever deal with. It will cause people to do all sorts of things.
Most evil comes from a perversion of love - instead of loving people, we love money. We love food. We love ourselves.
So, it might be of useful of the majority of S&A to read the following article:
http://instruct1.cit.cornell.edu/courses/econ669/love.html
Don't think just because love has a physical, chemical explanation doesn't mean it has no higher purpose. It's just that something can't have a higher purpose without having a lower purpose. How could it? You don't build a tower from the top down, now do you?

Re: The Science of Love
I probably won't read through the whole thing, as the original author didn't seem to know what they were talking about.
Love is induced by chemicals because every little decision you make is induced by the chemicals and electrical impulses in your brain. We discovered that a LITTLE while back, I think.
I like to view love as I do every other emotion: Illogic. No more, no less.

Great article, relating what two animals in a prarie do on their free time to the connection humans feel to one another.
You are making huge progress on the definition or the usefullness of the word love.

I think you're the one that doesn't know what you're talking about.

Um, duh?
quote:We discovered that a LITTLE while back, I think.
Okay.
quote:I like to view love as I do every other emotion: Illogic. No more, no less.
Illogic? You mean, illogical? No emotion is illogical - just because you can't grasp your mind around it doesn't mean its illogical.
quote:Great article, relating what two animals in a prarie do on their free time to the connection humans feel to one another.
Once again, you take things completely out of context, create a strawman, and miss the point entirely.
quote:You are making huge progress on the definition or the usefullness of the word love.
Carbon, you win the Nobel Prize in uselessness.
quote:This made me think of Donnie Darko..
I can see the connection.

lol @ one or two sentences being a "paragraph". I address statements one at a time. What is wrong with that?

Re: The Science of Love
I disagree, I believe that most evil springs from boredom; I blame the British for inventing boredom.
The Economist always has excellent articles and that example is no exception. I still care little, if at all, for the chemistry behind feelings.
Nomenclature is not necessary to explain my emotions.

Evil does not spring from boredom alone. It can be the breeding grounds for it, but it will not cause it. Evil did not begin with British, nor did boredom.

Agreed.

Well, that's fine. Others, however, might like to know.

Of course evil didn't begin with the British, but boredom certainly did begin with them.
Who crafted boredom? A British man.

Re: The Science of Love
Lol don't get him started, he is Wikipediaing that as we speak.
One or two sentences being a paragraph? By my count it was 5 sentences, and I don't know. 5 sentences seems like enough to warrant the word "paragraph".
That could just be me though, and what is wrong with you claiming I take things out of context when you split apart ideas to make comments?
Uh......the fact that you are a fucking hypocrite? Maybe that's why....faggot.

You don't have to be religious to believe there is evil. I'm an atheist and I have a ethical system.

Hardly. And even if I was, at least I backup what I say.

Where in this thread has even posted a paragraph with five sentences?
quote:OMFG! Theres no such thing as evil!
How would you know?
quote:Btw, are you religious?
Spiritual. I will have nothing to do with organized religion. Anything having to do with human authority is bullshit, IMO.
quote:You don't have to be religious to believe there is evil.
You do have to believe in something more than the physical world.
quote:I'm an atheist and I have a ethical system.
Based on what? Is it relativistic? If it is, then it's not really an ethical system, it's excuses and justifications for things. If it's based on some sort of God then you're not an atheist.

I don't know, it seems like in his entire post there were 5 sentences. Which could be construde as a paragraph.
Anyone else getting annoyed with Rizzo's very very lame attacks?
He said he had an ethical system, and you question him? God, someone fucking shoot this guy.

Of course.

Except for the fact that the 5 sentences weren't in paragraph form. You do know what a paragraph is, right?
quote:Anyone else getting annoyed with Rizzo's very very lame attacks?
I'm willing to bet more are annoyed with you.
quote:He said he had an ethical system, and you question him?
God forbid I get someone to question and think! That would be horrible.

Methinks you need to calm the hell down.

Re: The Science of Love
Sentences are broken up for ease of reading. You don't know what the fuck that means, so I'll elaborate for you.
I probably won't read through the whole thing, as the original author didn't seem to know what they were talking about.Love is induced by chemicals because every little decision you make is induced by the chemicals and electrical impulses in your brain. We discovered that a LITTLE while back, I think. I like to view love as I do every other emotion: Illogic. No more, no less.
A paragraph, now shut the fuck up. I might rub people the wrong way, but I would never compare how fucking annoying you are to me.
You have gone above and beyond the fucking annoying factor. I come to totse so you can feed me a fucking line about the relation to 3% of animals monogamous relationships to my own?
Ever fucking consider the fact that Humans don't fall into the category of having to make a monogamous connection? Please.........anyone with a gun shoot this guy.

You're right, but that doesn't make it a paragraph.

That's not how he wrote it, though.

Of course you wouldn't.

You do realize that you don't have to reply to my threads. You can stop at any time.

That's a fact? Mind backing it up, then?

More death threats. Do I need to get the authorities involved?

Yes, I said consider the fact......what's your fucking point? Did I say, It is a fact humans don't make monogamous connections?
Don't believe I did....consider the fact is a fucking phrase, you are taking everything WAY too literally.
If I tell you, you are too stupid to tell the difference between your ass and a hole in the ground, are you going to ask me to prove you can't find your ass from a hole in the ground?
