Does a Sapphire/Diamond ring stand out from the others?
I recently had my birthday last friday and recieved a deep blue Sapphire/diamond white gold ring from my bf, I'm just wondering if there's a meaning behind the gem if any know of it, and if it stands for anything.
Anything will be appreciated it if it's not stupid.
thanks.E

Thanks for your opinion. My birthstone is Topaz, so the blue sapphire doesn't explain it, maybe he just liked it.

Natural Properties (http://www.gemstone.org/gem-by-gem/english/sapphire.html)
Meaning (http://crystal-cure.com/sapphire-gem.html)
Who knows why he got you a sapphire? You should ask him if there's a significance.

Thanks Stab, I looked at those. I was going to check out what the price would be since he purchased it at People's.. they don't have an online store, crap.

I appreciate it with all myheart, he knows that all i want is him and nothing else, but goes onto to do special things, I know that it wasnt cheap and that he'd do anything for me, but curiousity gets the best of me that's how I am. I appreciate your outlook.

Re: Does a Sapphire/Diamond ring stand out from the others?
Maybe he just got a good deal on it on the street?
But seriously, I love gemstones. Diamonds are so boring. I'd much rather have a huge perfectly cut ruby or emerald. The colors are so...enthralling.

I'd rather have a platinum band with possibly a diamond or few on it, but then again i'd accept anything from him because he doesn't need to buy me anything.

My BF does love me, or like me to say the least so Yeah, but as I said it doesn't matter what he gives me because it's unneccessary, if I have him, i'm satisfied.

Re: Does a Sapphire/Diamond ring stand out from the others?
Maybe just ask him if it has any fucking special meaning because the stones might have special meanings but he might not give two shits about that part. I mean ive given my ex Pink saphires and all that and such and they have meanings im sure but I got them because they are pretty and she likes them and diamonds are fucking boring. Maybe hes like me and just figured you might like something with a little more pizazzz to it then just boring diamond. Only way you can know what it means to HIM is to ask. Just be like "is there any particular reason you got blue saphires? or just thought it looked pretty?" Bam question answered.

You got a diamond ring for your birthday? Nice! As for the reason why there are sapphires, it's probably just because they're pretty!

Saphires are the gems of the heavens.... goes back to ancient greece and rome.
However I very much doubt he would know that.... unless he's gay or a jeweler.

Re: Does a Sapphire/Diamond ring stand out from the others?
Also you say a deep blue sapphire.... the darker the blue the less it costs. The most expensive are ceylon blue sapphires.... which are almost a sky blue... if it's one of those... he probably splashed out quite a bit for it.

Re: Does a Sapphire/Diamond ring stand out from the others?
I always find it odd how people think that jewelry and diamonds are overplayed and have no meaning..
Personally, if you're gonna spend a month and a half's check on me, I'm gonna feel damn special, regardless of what it was.
I do think diamonds are a little overplayed, that's why I bought one of my now-ex's an aquamarine. It matched her eyes.

Re: Does a Sapphire/Diamond ring stand out from the others?
Well the price doesnt mean much to me, but the thought of it does count alot, he is the man i want to be with and am most certain he's more sure of that than I am. We want to be together, and it's a beautiful simple ring. It's got an oval deep blue sparkling sapphire ( we both love blue )..and it's got six small circular diamonds on each side, and is really radiant when the sun hits it..anywho we had a convo about it last night and I asked him like a few of you adviced, was going to anyways..and he said not only was it his favourite colour, but he said that it stood as elegance, womanly, simple and laid back but full of radiant beauty, and said how that relates to me, and that it fits to who I am. So that answers it. To me it's not the price, but the thought that counts.
Thank you for the input.
E
Edit: And about the diamond bit, he's a very European chic type of a guy, he likes to spend money and alot of it, he likes the more luxurious things in life so diamonds are nothing big to him...maybe that'll clear up the perspective on him a little bit.

Re: Does a Sapphire/Diamond ring stand out from the others?
I Dont see how people put so value to an object by how much money it costs, and sometimes forget what it's purpose or meaning holds. I dont care how much it costs, and i think i said that before, but it's his thought that makes it so special to me, and that it came from him.
Diamonds, jewels, a million dollars or a trip to space..it doesn't matter how much anything costs, it's just the meaning behind it that makes it all the more valuable.
He can buy me diamonds all he wants, but he cant buy our love, because it's simply priceless.
Oh the emotion.

Re: Does a Sapphire/Diamond ring stand out from the others?
Its easy to say you don't care about how much he spends on you or what he gets you now when your getting diamonds rings and all but lets see how much youd be saying that if he stopped. Now im not saying that you ARE one of those people that would stop loving him if he stopped getting you diamonds and cheaped it down to maybe a flower or something. But hey its easy to say you don't care about it when you're getting it.

I'm actually really glad you pointed this out, because I totally agree with you!
With him, I don't care if he bought me diamonds or a flower, I'd love the diamond more because sure, it's something that will remind me of him everytime i see, feel and think about the ring on my finger, and i wouldn't like to kill the flower because it's a living thing. I love him with all of my heart, and everything that he does for me, may it be kiss my hand, or the way he whispers my name and I love You, or how he cares for me and is a gentleman, are everday things that yes are small and simple, but keep me knowing that he cares for me, and those are priceless comparing to anything he can buy me with cash.
I'm a simple person and I like simple things, and he gives me those everytime i look into his eyes or think about him, and hear him, it's these things that money cannot buy. I love him for those, and even if he did not get me the ring for my birthday, knowing that I have him for the rest of my life * knocks on wood* has me satisfied like you wouldn't know. I can go on forever about him, but I hope I transferred my thoughts in a clear way to understand.

I think the onion ring thing is silly, haven't had those in a few years.
