Love vs. Lust
right, so i scanned the first two pages in S&A here, and didn't find a thread like this, so i do apologize for any and all redundancy this thread shares with anything within the past week.
what i'm looking for here is totse's opinion on where the line is drawn between love and lust. i know love involves so much more caring for a person than simple lust, but to what extent? what else do you feel is required to declare something love?
i'm a bit lost within my own relationship, and that's why i'm asking. thanks for everyone's (serious) input.

Re: Love vs. Lust

Re: Love vs. Lust
yeah lust is just a sexual aspect of love. define love as you will, but it's more than just sexual.

Re: Love vs. Lust
Lust is anything carnal and carnal alone. Love is everything involving mind, heart, soul and spirit, and wholesome lust. You lust for the one you love not only because of sexual attraction, but because you as an entire person love, care, would do anything for the other person. You feel responsible for the happiness of the other, if you love them. Lust doesn't carry any responsibilities, you fuck and you don't care. That's lust. .. to me.

Re: Love vs. Lust
^ idk about your definition of love. you can love without lust. it sucks and kills a relationship, but it does happen.
a great relationship has love and lust. you care for and adore the person as well as have the animal desire for them. a relationship needs both. just love or just lust makes for a shitty relationship.
of course, just my view.

^ In a relationship, I think lust is more important to girls then it is to guys. And I dont mean that in a bad way.

Re: Love vs. Lust
love is the salad, and lust is the dressing.
love is the ice cream, and lust is the hot fudge.
love is the potatoes, and lust is the gravy.
you get the picture.

Re: Love vs. Lust
This one's to SilentMind's comment:
I personally value love way above and beyond lust, even though both of us lovingly lust for eachother, not the shallow lust where you just want to fuck, but the lust where you wanna fuck her because everything about him/her is perfect to you and you need her to be happy typa thing. . . I could've dated my baby well into a few years without sex, but it felt right doing it within the first 4 months...to me love is more important than lust, but since we both lust for eachother, prior to engaging in intercourse and currently it seems like an essence of love, a part of it, but not more important than the relationship itself...I'm having issues explaining myself these days.

Re: Love vs. Lust
Triangular theory of love:
-------(A)
________/\
_______/__\
__(B)_/____\-(C)
_____/______\
____/__(D)__\
___/_________\
__/____________\
(E)____(F)_____(G)
A:Intimacy
("Liking" or friendship)
B:Passion + Intimacy
(Romantic love)
C:Intimacy + Committment
(Companionate love)
D:Intimacy + Passion + Commitment
(Consumate love)
E:Passion
(Infatuation)
F:Passion + Commitment
(Fatuitous love)
G:Commitment
(Empty love)
That seems to be the best way to put it.
EDIT: GOD DAMN TRIANGLE!!!

Re: Love vs. Lust
Im in a relationship, and being in love sucks. Its great sometimes, but then it just sucks. You can leave, but it sucks even more then staying.
If I could go back and make a choice, Id go for lust.

Re: Love vs. Lust
^ that's not true. i love my boyfriend very deeply, and that is probably the only reason we are still together. i don't really have a sexual attraction towards him, but in every other aspect things are really great.
love is just the friendship, compassion, and empathy in the relationship. without the lust, things get boring and old quickly.

Re: Love vs. Lust
i'll just go ahead and give a brief overview of what my relationship is like (and, in a sense, why i'm confused).
i care about her immensely. i used to have this nearly incomprehensible fear of myself because i thought i was going to kill scores of people in the future. i'm a little fucked up. anyway, since i've been with her, this fear (and accompanying thoughts) have all but disappeared. thus, she makes me happier than i've been, possibly in my entire life.
on the lustful end, some days, i have the urge to not talk to her much while we're haning out, and just kiss her the whole time. i think she looks beautiful (though i admit, not the hottest thing i've ever encountered). i love getting to have my arms around her as much as possible.

Re: Love vs. Lust
Lust is when you want to fuck someone's brains out, obviously.
Love, I think, is a more gradual build-up of trust in particular.
An extension of this theory to come.

I'd consider that love, but not romantic love. Which is what I think the OP means... don't think he's asking for a definition of familial love, say...
But anyway, that kinda made me worried. Maybe my girlfriend isn't attracted to me after all but thinks she loves me enough to stay with me. I am pretty ugly, and she is so beautiful...
