Default What should I do? – High school Romance. longish

So here’s how it goes:

Then:

I’ve known this guy for a year, and we’re friends but not close friends. He’s had a thing for me since January and so have I. he asked me out casually at the end of the year, but things didn’t connect and I said “whhha?”. later that day, I ran up to him and asked him if he was being serious but he pretended that he didn’t know what I was talking about.

SUMMER PASTS

Present day:

We (me, the guy I like, and our friends) sit together at lunch. Everyday I smile at him and he smiles back, I laugh and he smiles. And on occasion when somebody has taken my seat I’m forced to sit right next to him. He would then “hurt” me as a sign of affection – poking me in the side, sandwiching me between chairs, etc..

Lately he’s gotten to IMing me almost everyday, but now it stopped. I think it was because I scared him when I asked if he liked me. He said yes, but he wanted to surprise me and ask me out in person. That happened over the weekend and I was anticipating it would happen either on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Nothing happened and his normal things to bug me has virtually stopped and he rarely ever smiles at me. (maybe he's pretending he's not interested to suprise me?)

And now it Thanksgiving holiday so I wont get to see him for 4 days. now, I think that he might not even do it since he was confused on facebook, he wondered if it’s worth it on AIM (from his profile), and now he says it’s time for a new start (today on AIM again).

I dont even know if those things are even realated to me.

... i really sound like a douchebag. it's like i'm needy, but im not. im shy most of the time but i can be a hardass as well. i really like him and i dont want to screw up my chances with him.

Should I be worried? Or should I just ask him out myself (I was really considering this in the pass 3 days)?

Blinded by the light,

revved up like a deuce,

another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,

revved up like a deuce,

another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,

revved up like a deuce,

another runner in the night

Madman drummers bummers,

Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat

In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat

With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older,

I tripped the merry-go-round

With this very unpleasin', sneezin' and wheezin,

the calliope crashed to the ground

The calliope crashed to the ground

But she was...

Blinded by the light,

revved up like a deuce,

runner in the night

Blinded by the light,

Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes

She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong,

play the song with the funky break"

And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside

And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride

Asked me if I needed a ride

But she was...

Blinded by the light,

Blinded by the light

She got down but she never got tired

She's gonna make it through the night

She's gonna make it through the night

But mama, that's where the fun is

But mama, that's where the fun is

Mama always told me not to look into the eye's of the sun

But mama, that's where the fun is

Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone preacher from the east

Says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in it's funny bone,

that's where they expect it least"

And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner,

watching the young girls dance

And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone, reminding him of romance

The calliope crashed to the ground

But she was...

Blinded by the light,

revved up like a deuce,

another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,

Now Scott with a slingshot finially found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand

And some bloodshot forget-me-not said daddy's within earshot save the buckshot, turn up the band

Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I go what it takes

She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong

if i were in your position, i'd ask the person if they really thinks there's no reason to continue any affection towards you. if you weren't being a tease to him, make sure he knows that. if you see the conversation is going on a positive note, ask him out. there's no reason not to if all goes well.

Not so fast, Lauren...I am not disagreeing entirely with what you are saying but there are a couple other options we haven't weighed up.

First, he could still be nervous.

I remember when I was a lad, I would get all jittery, sweaty and nervous when I found out a girl I like had something for me too.

I had been told many times that she liked me by her friends and that I should ask.

I would then be told by the girl herself that she liked me and I still wouldn't ask for a while.

It can be kinda daunting.

Second, he could have just lost interest...I don't say that to be a cruel bastard but now knowing that you like him means there's not much "thrill of the chase".

My advice would be to ask him if he's still interested, that way you can eliminate or verify Lauren's suggestion or my second suggestion.

If both are eliminated, it would point to the first suggestion I made in which case you say something like "Look...If you like me then just ask...It's annoying liking you and getting no lovin'!"

Or something along those lines!

All the best.
