Default Love x2

Can you be in love with two people at the same time?

And I mean "real" love.

Would it be possible?

I can't really make my mind up about it.

Just to be clear, this isn't a personal situation at all. Just hypothetical puzzlement.

(If this has already been done, sorry and all. Smite me with mod-lightning or whatever it is you guys like to do )

It usually involves sharp knives and unnecessary surgery...

There are those couples who are polyamorous. They very well might.

I think it's possible to be in love with almost anyone. I don't believe in that there's only one person for you bullshit.

Why would an emotion only be directed at one person?

Of course you can. But you gotta choose one, and stick to it.

Or choose multiple people. That's what the OP is trying to say.

Sure you would, you just choose not to...

All relationships are problematic, and I would think multiple loves would be even moreso.

Unnecessary surgery is the best kind of surgery .

I had the general impression that "true love" was sort of... focused on one person.

In the few situations where I've felt (something which may have been) love, I couldn't even entertain the possibility of lusting for someone else, let alone falling in love.

It seemed to exclude a fair amount of things in life, including any other potential partners.

Though that was just my experience.

I never thought this was possible before. I've been in love, I know the utter devotion of feeling towards somebody. Recently, I fell in love again (it's a strange case of love; platonic, but real, true love), with someone who has a boyfriend, who is both utterly in love with her, and who she's completely and totally in love with. I've honestly never seen a pair of people so in love as them; you can see it in everything they do together. But she's in love with me too. The same love as I have for her; platonic, but so incredibly in love. None of us (all three of us know exactly the feelings of everyone involved for the other, and there's no jealousy or anything, thankfully) know of anything like this happening with anybody else, but it does happen.

I know some people will say we don't know what we're talking about. Go ahead, but we do. I know what it is to be in love. She does too, and it's her that's in love with ywo people at once. I think it helps that one is platonic; whether it would be or not if she didn't have her boyfriend, I have no idea. I suspect it might not, but as it is, there's no sexual desire. Not to say she isn't very sexually attractive; she is, extremely, but I've spent nights sleeping with her and not had the desire to do anything sexual at all. Never been happier than just lying there, us both holding each other close. I'm not sure this would work if they were both non-platonic loves (and really, that's the only difference between this and conventional love), but at least you know it can happen, albeit seemingly very rarely indeed.

Those are two very different types of relationships Mr. Happy.

It's comparing apples and oranges; it seems as if you're comparing the love you hold for a parent, child, or friend to the sort you feel for a partner.

Short answer: Yes

Long answer:

There is no reason why a loving relationship can't involve more than 2 people.

However, there is a FUCKLOAD of conditioning you and others will receive about what 'love' is. E.g. Princess and prince charming, its adam and eve not adam and STEVE!, marriage means something, etc etc.

If you're an insecure piece of shit, then polyamorous relationships arent for you.

If you can accept that someone can be attracted to more than one person and be able to have multiple sexual relationships without it breaking some MAGICAL BOND that is drilled into peoples skulls then maybe you will find greater happyness in being able to spend your time with more than 1 person without the guilt of lying.

The way I see it, if someone if a friend likes to play football or some other shit i dont like with another friend, i dont give a shit, im glad my friend is having a good time.

The only reason I can see that your partner having sex would be a problem is if the only thing in the relationship was sex and you were somehow afraid of 'losing' the person because they were getting better sex.

Who cares about having things in common or being able to have an intelligent conversation SEEING OTHER PEOPLE IS WRONG!!!!

Don't get me wrong, i think cheating is wrong, as its a form of lying, as in the pretence of a relationship that is monogamous, fucking around is a shit way. If you are going to fuck someone, talk about it, its not a big deal. Sex is just fun, nothing more, nothing less.

I was asking about love, not sex.

You have an interesting point about relationships in general, but it sort of missed the question.
