Help with talking on the phone
When I am talking on the phone with a girl I often find myself running out of things to say and the dreaded "awkward silence" ensues. I usually start off with the typical "What did you do today" but that's about it. Can anybody give me good questions or phrases to keep the conversation going? Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with talking on the phone
Ask her questions, stuff about her.
Let the bitch talk, and you just nod, then you're off to base 2.

Re: Help with talking on the phone
I rarely ever post on this forum anymore but I just had that exact thing. Nor do I usually talk on the phone much, but yeah. Just be more comfortable with the silence and it wont be awkward. Or if your really anal about it, just be random and say something out of the blue.

I make sure to establish those silences as comfortable ones, instead of awkward. This puts her at ease. I don't mind silence every now and then.

Re: Help with talking on the phone
My ssgt instructor was talking about man laws yesterday, he said that you don't talk to someone on the phone longer than you can have sex with them. So in all reality, you don't need to talk to someone on the phone that long, unless you're a porn star.
Ask her a shit load of questions, like any question that pops in your head, then relate questions based on what she says.

Re: Help with talking on the phone
"I'm touching myself" would be sure to spice it up.
Really, if you've run out of things to say, why carry on the phone call? You ARE allowed to say goodbyes and hang up.

Re: Help with talking on the phone
One of my girlfriends in the past would require looooong conversations out of me on the phone (even though we'd see each other every day, pretty much). When I say long, I'm saying that it made my cellphone battery die after a full charge. Anyway, I'd always run out of shit to say and then she'd accuse me of not paying attention or not caring or whatever. Eventually I got better at it. Practice makes perfect, dude.
If it makes you feel that nervous about it, just tell her that. Tell her that you feel awkward on the phone sometimes when the conversation dies, it's not her fault, but you're getting better about it. Just make sure you word it so that it doesn't sound like her fault. Don't be like "You're really boring on the phone and you make me feel weird" cause that'll probably make her sad.
Either that, or just watch a LOT of discovery channel. Then you'll always have something interesting to talk about.

Re: Help with talking on the phone
Conversation just flows. Just talk. Just because there is a moment of silence doesn't mean that things are awkward.
If you say things that cause a silence, that's something else entirely.
Just talk about whatever comes to mind, ask questions as they come to you. Conversation isn't one sided, you shouldn't have to always prop it up on your own.

Re: Help with talking on the phone
The problem here is you're acting very paranoid about what she's going to think about you and your ideas. I know it is important, but most of the time, the reason conversation isn't flowing naturally is because you're not being open with her, you're guarded. Just open up and say whatever's on your mind (within reason, of course) and things will move along a lot better.

Re: Help with talking on the phone
its just one of those things that should come natural. You should feel comfortable with this girl when talking. Being nervous just makes it more awkward and harder for you to talk. Just babble on about your interests. Ask her about her interests. Tell her about your surroundings. Shit, watch tv with her on the phone. Find out what she likes and talk more about that shit. Make sure to include yourself somewhat. But make sure you keep the convo on her for the first few weeks. Then gradually ease yourself into it. Tell her random things from your day. What you are eating, to what you are drinking. Have some music in the background.
Its pretty simple. Just go with the flow.
If you guys run out of things to talk about. It probably isnt your fault. Its probably the dumb bitch on the other end of the phone. Dont try to force conversations because eventually you will become bored with her because she is a boring person.
Just do not be nervous.

Re: Help with talking on the phone
Thanks alot for your advice JVM, I always had the "one-sided conversation" mentality, but after talking to her I realized she even did most the talking. I figured I was going to be the one doing most of the talking because of how we talk in person. And I also did write down what I was going to say to be extra secure and I must say it boosts your confidence. Thanks S&A.

Haha, wow, the most I've talked to my bf was 14hrs on a few instances (boring summer nights) , and we used to sleep and wake up on the phone for most nights, sometimes just starting to talk at before midnight and talking till we had to go to school/work the next day around, I can see ourselves having sex for that long too, he produces way too much testosterone; sometimes it's overwhelming. true love + testosterone massif =
Thought that was interesting.

Oh, and to answer the threadstarter:
Are you two close? Or are you attempting to get close to her? Talk about memories, and share stupid things you've done, something to get her laughing, smiling, adventurous things you/ she want(s) to do, dreams, something you learned today, something you never knew, something you found out about something else that you assumed was otherwise, etc etc...don't be nervous what have you got to lose from talking to the girl? Practice makes perfect, show confidence and you'll be more appealing, that's a given.
Hope that helped
