Found out one of my best friends has cancer
She called me last night after she got back from her scans. She hadn't told me before, just because she didn't know how i would take it. Honestly, i still don't know how im taking it, i feel an insane number of emotions. The doctors told her she has 6 months, and hearing this part really hurt. Like i said, she is one of my best friends, and i don't know what i will do if she dies. I've never experienced a close friend dying either. Can someone pelase give me some advice?

Re: Found out one of my best friends has cancer
What sort of cancer is it? Is there no hope at all?
I don't know how to help anyone deal with losses and grief, but it must suck.
I hope she lives her life to the full.

It's Lung cancer. From what se said it's pretty certain she has 6 months only. We're both 15 too, if that makes any difference

Troll?? I don't think I've ever heard of a fifteen or sixteen year old getting any kind of cancer. Was she a smoker? Semantics aside, I've got a lot of sympathy for you. I've lost several family members to cancer, and it's hard on everyone. I'm very sorry, good luck with everything.

You know, death doesn't have to be something sad. This doesn't have to be something depressing. It is really up to you what you want to do with this situation. You can mope around, looking at your friend with those sorrowful eyes, whatever. Or you can celebrate the life she still has the privilege to live.

Re: Found out one of my best friends has cancer
A kid I went to high school with just died (at 24) a couple weeks ago. I come from a small town so everyone knew about it and it was a pretty sad deal.
Only thing you can do is move on. Everyone dies, just depends when.

I don't know what I'd do if my best friend was going to die.

Re: Found out one of my best friends has cancer
Be sure to give her some space. I know if I were dying I would want some time alone to gather my thoughts.
Be sympathetic for her, but whatever you do, don't get emotional or seem desperate. It will just make things harder on her and on yourself. If she feels like she's making you suffer, tell her that it sucks but you're prepared for it because death is natural and everyone dies.

Lung cancer at 15? I've never heard of that either.
If you're telling the truth, that must be hard. Stick together till the end.

I agree with the celebrate what she has left, but it indeed is a sad thing for her. Don't be afraid to let her be sad, or to be sad with her.
I recommend you contact a support group either online, or where you live. They could probably help you a lot.
