Default Jewellery Question

Say you have a girlfriend, for whom you've never bought jewellery before, and your plan is to buy her an entire matching set in pieces over a length of time (ie special events).

Which order would you do this in?

Ring > Bracelet > Earrings > Necklace?

Necklace > Earrings > Bracelet > Ring?

Bracelet > Ring > Earrings > Necklace?

etc.

And as a sidenote, are there any items I am missing out on?

Dankeshan (Thankyou)

I like the last choice. You could go for an anklet.. Haha.. But I don't think you're missing anything.. Unless she's pierced somewhere else.

Yeah, probably the third choice, however I'm not sure on the bracelet, but that's only because I don't really like them that much.

Bitteschön. (you're welcome. Except I may have spelt that very wrong, it's been a long time since I did German. In fact it could be the wrong word entirely)

Thanks guys, the third option (while only actually an example) seems to be gaining consensus.

Oh, and I never learnt German ^_^

I bought my missus the ring first because I knew I wanted to marry her!

In your case I would say buy the ring last. If you know what I mean.

If she looks a little too far into things, it could mean a little too much for you.

Go for the braclet first...See if she wears it.

Afterwards go for for the necklace to see if she wears that.

Then the earrings...They get the most attention and the first two will be there for you to see if she likes your taste.

She wears the first two = She likes your taste.

She doesn't wear them = Start asking questions!

All the best buddy.

I'd go witht the second option.

That said, I'd never really seen my girlfriend wear a bracelet all that much, and I went for a necklace small enough to be worn daily rather than a bigger special occasion piece.

Ditto for earrings over bracelet, just seemed more likely to get worn.

I never did get her a matching bracelet, but if I'd wanted to avoid the connotation of a ring for a while longer, I suppose that would have been the logical step.

My thoughts exactly. Although, I'd suggest making sure they're to her tastes before gifting them.

^ By checking out her collection right?

I'm not huge on bracelets but I do want to spread it out over time, so the more items the better.

The best way to guage her taste is to go out somewhere and look around shops for things and "spontaneiously" look at a jeweller's window.

See what she "ooohs" and "aaaahs" about...Then you'll know what to look for on Ebay!

Why would you buy a girl an entire set of jewelry? They won't wear it all at once, and then it's just $300 (or however much you're spending per piece) items laying around.

The order doesn't really matter, and you're thinking way too hard about this. If you've been with her for long enough (i.e. over a year) then a ring is a good present. Your girl may not like bracelets or may not like rings. Don't spend your money if she won't wear it. Just get her a ring or a necklace if she likes those. They can match a lot of outfits and unless you're a fuckwit she'll probably like what you pick out.

The concept of owning an entire collection of jewelry is, in part, to pass it on in the future; a small demonstration of commitment. Many girls have a jewelry collection, owning an entire set is a major part of a collection.

Women seem to like having things laying around. Shoes, clothes, jewelry, teddy bears, or whatever happens to tickle their fancy. Guys are the same way, but generally with different tastes.
