Default 16 year olds?

What are the signs of 'Maturity' in a 16 year old?

What are the signs of 'Immaturity'?

What, actually, does Maturity mean?

Why is the mandatory, 'I'm, like, sooooo Mature!', of the 15 year old totally different & so laughable compared to the 'actual' Maturity of the 16 year old?

From what so many say? It should be easy to tell a 16 from a 15...just by their level of Maturity.

Well, it depends on whether you're talking about mental or physical. It sounds more mental to me, so that's what I'll go with;

I believe true maturity is gained from experiences of one person throughout life. You learn how to cope with things, that's one side of maturity. Being able to handle things in a more organized fashion, rather than just acting upon what your emotions are making you feel at the moment. Here's an example;

15-year-old immature female has just gotten in an argument with another female.

"I'm going to punch that bitch in her face! I hate her, she's such a whore. I heard she slept with 8 guys...blah blah"

More Mature female;

"That upsets me she would say that about me. I think we should talk it over"

Edit: I wasn't finished rambling, my dad had to get online.

I personally don't think it's very possible for many to be mature until a very late age and they've been through a lot more than just 16 years of experience. I suppose the levels grow higher, but how the hell is a 16+-year-old going to know what they're talking about when they're discussing life? The only thing most of them know are what they've encountered with their peers.

Interesting topic none the less. I'm sure I could go on and on. Also, to answer your question about "Is there more to maturity than just containing your actions" I do believe it's much more. It's the way you act toward everything, not just fighting and such. It's what you choose to laugh at, what clothes you wear, what you allow to be your influences, the hobbies you take up. It has to do with pretty much everything.

As, I just posted in rabbitweed's SG thread, so many claim they are mature? Why do so many college people get such rude & sloppy & not pulling their weight roommates?

Does being able to live with others in college have something to do with something else? Not maturity? Is there more to maturity that not physically fighting & not slandering people?

thats not it. Maturity is experience, or calmly beating the shi out of the girl instead of bitching and talking about it.

moonmeister.

i've always wondered, primarily because i can't tell - how old are you? it doesn't in particular matter, but i'm curious.

Maturity also depends on what the beholder thinks of it. Your own opinion is shaped by your experiences (as mentioned above) and you'll use your experiences to judge just about everybody else.

No one knows. In fact, I was a little disappointed to find out that he lived in Canada and not like on some other pla... wait, same thing, nevermind.

No one actually says that. Ever. Not 15-year-olds, not 16-year-olds, not 50-year-olds. That reminds me of those stupid talks we were given in elementary school, featuring saintly people who worked everything out by smiling and talking.

I think its really sad that so many teens and preteens are trying SO HARD to act all grown up and mature. They're missing the point. Ever heard an adult say "I love being grown up, this is awesome". No. They say things like "I miss my youth"...but all these damn kids are just skipping the youth part in the first place.

I'm 20 and I intend to never "grow up". Dont mistake that for a lack of "maturity". I know when to be serious...its just not too often. Also, I dont think I ever do or will take myself seriously. I understand when to be sincere around people, but I'll be making jokes at my own expense forever. I think respect is more important than maturity, no matter what the context.

I'm an adult. I might miss my physical youth, but not the rest of it. I've always preferred being an independant adult than a dependant youth.

Mature might, in this case, be relative to those in ones own arena?

It's like our new civility policies; they have to respect your bench.

It's a simple matter of respect. They think that since they're "on their own" they can do whatever they want, that responsibility and respect no longer apply.

How do you deal with this? With either a great deal of trouble or a great deal of personality.

It really depends on the person. I know some really immature 20 year olds, whereas I used to live with a 17 year old that in most ways was far more mature then my 20 year old friends.

I always thought this was because she wasn't mothered like them, left home young and can take care of herself.

Well i'm 16...I don't usually associate myself with people my own age. I just grew up like that when I was 12 I was hanging around with 16 yr olds...Now i'm 16 I hang around alot of 20+ yr olds. I can sit and ahve an intelligent conversation with someone in their 40s quite easily. I can stay on my own and can keep a job. That's how you tell if people at that age are mature. If their mature they should be able to go live on their own and not have to leech from their parents. I guess.

I couldn't think of anything. I was just using it as an example, something along those lines or words of action.

If no one is mature then why do we have a word for maturity?

Of course there are mature people and immature people.

You're just an idiot.

I'm insane, but mature. And yes, there is a huge difference between 15 & 16, but there is also between 14 & 15, and so on. The only reason you don't see that much of a difference later on in life isn't because adults really ARE mature, it's just that they change at a much slower pace.

there are all different types of maturity. physical, emotional, intellectual, social....just to name a few.

physical and intellectual are pretty irrelevant in this case.

emotional and social, however, are key. emotional maturity entails being able to understand and deal with complex emotional issues, both in oneself and in others. social maturity is being able to deal effectively with other people in day to day events. it involves not losing your cool in stressful situations, being able to assert yourself and get what you need (to a point) and knowing when to shut up and let others have their say. people who are socially mature are easy to pick out because they're well-liked and don't have conflicts with the people around them.

i should also add that the various forms of maturity do not necessarily coincide. one can be extremely mature socially, but still unable to deal with something as simple as breaking up with someone or consoling a friend who has suffered a loss (emotional maturity). i could go on and on but i'll stop there.

I don't think there is that much difference between 15 and 16, i see a lot bigger of a difference between 13 and 14 (middle to high school)

Find me a mature person and i will honestly give you everything i own.

Everyone who appears mature usually isnt, deep down everyone is immature, even seemingly mature people laugh at the word "penis" or something.

No one can be completely mature.
