So I went on a date last night. The girl was nice, pretty and just all around a great girl. After she went home, one of her friends and I started talking. I found out shes pretty devoted to her church (going evrey sunday, youth groups etc.). Now, shes looking for a christian boyfriend, which I am not. I like to stay out of religion as much as I can for the most part. So, would any of you become a more religious person for a girl?

She's not some kind of object. If you're religious and you're only furthering your interest to try and "obtain" her, that's selfish. God will smite you. In anycase, if she's not intersted in you as you are, just deal with it. Pretending you're something you're not will just end in misery.

My boyfriend is a christian and he knows I'm not. I go to church with him sometimes though. I'm not pretending to be something I'm not but I am supporting his beliefs. That's the best you can do really.

Anyone who's devoted to their religion should expect your right not to be devoted to a religion (much less their religion). I think this is actually a more religious debate than it is relationships. In my opinion you should never have to change your beliefs to fit into someone else's life. You should not have to lie about who you are to be with someone. If they do not respect the fact that you do or do not believe in something, you do not need to be with them.

I would never tell someone that they had to stop believing in God in order to be with me because I wouldn't want someone to put me in the opposite situation.

She's not being selfish, she just wants to date someone else who shares in her faith. He's being selfish if he "joins up" or shows more interest in that faith just so he can "have her" (By have I do mean date, not sleep with just to clarify). If he has a genuine interst in the religion and wants to take that further, then by all means do it. Hell, he can go along to the places with her there's no harm in that.

My friend's girlfriend used to be religious. She dumped him because he "wasn't christian enough." She came to her senses later on. Now, they couldn't be happier together.

I suggest you do the right thing and be honest with this girl. It'll save you trouble down the line and it might work out.

if she was really hot i'd pretend that i was becoming more christian because of her devine influence. trust me she'll come all over you if you say that she made you become more holy, i've done that lots of times and gotten good christian puss out of it.

Lots of people are missing details in their replies. Firstly Toothless joe is absolutly correct it would be "selfish" although hes doing it "for her" the reason hes doing it for her is becaue he likes her and thinks she will stay with him longer(obviously a benifit to him hence the selfishness). Secondly we dont know anything about the girl except that shes LOOKING for a christian boy. I look for a girl thats VERY Open to music but hey not all girls are like that does that mean if a girl only likes one genre im not going to date her? No it just means id like a girl like that. You can be looking for a particular type and still be open to others. So we can't assume she ONLY dates christians. I keep meaning to sit down and write an 'Old Perv's guide to getting into a Christian girls knickers' because this seems to come up time and time again. For those who don't know, I was raised in an intense christian home, studied for the priesthood etc.

OP, the first thing , the very first thing is you need to know what sort of christian she is. Which church, denomination or sect?

Then you should sit down and study 1. The history of her church and 2.What their teachings are regarding sin, dating, premarital sex.

Then you may just stand a chance. But notions that it 'doesn't really matter' or trying to convince her with rational thought WILL NOT WORK.
