Default Do you think the ladder theory is right?

(I did a search for ladder theory on this forum and found nothing, so if it has been posted, my apologies.)

www.laddertheory.com (http://www.laddertheory.com)

Do you think the ladder theory is right? Why or why not? I personally don't because it seems to have a particularly bleak outlook and life and seems like something a really bitter ugly person would write. Also I'm a bum and not particularly attractive, yet when I actually try to get a girl it's not that difficult. What do you think of it?

I think the ladder theory is an attempt to generalise something that's completely dependent on individual cases.

It's true. You'd have to be a fool to not realize relationships are all a game. However, I think that attraction accounts for more than money.

No.

e: Also, wasn't this verified that this was written by a highschool student?

e 2: I also think there is some truth to it, but I'd put it at 50% looks / 50% personality for both sexes. I can't put that in stone for all females, but in my experience it's true. Either/or can outweigh the other too, depending on the person.

The ladder theory makes some great points, but it can be much more simplified:

Take an ugly man, put a few million in his bank account, and his ass in the seat of a hot new Ferrari. Women will flock to him.

Take a handsome man, and put him in the belly of a rusty El Camino that he drives to his job at McDonald's everyday. Women will shy away from him.

Take a woman with the nastiest, bitchiest personality in the world and put her in the perfect body with supermodel looks. Men will flock to her.

Take the sweetest, kindest woman and put her in a fat body with greasy hair, acne, and a speech impediment. Men will run away from her.

Women want money and status. Men want a hot piece of ass to show off. Everything else is just background noise.

What it comes down to is that it's pretty much bullshit. Too many exceptions. Ofcourse it's part truth, but pretty much leaves out the fact that where's a will there's a way, and that you can "jump any ladder" you want, in the end.

It makes a bit of sense, but jumping ladders is not as hard as they make it sound. I think it'sall from some lonely guy who can't get a gf.

I'm currently with a girl who originally said "But I like how we are just good friends and can hang out and stuff".

I've noticed that the more open you are towards girls, they seem to respect you less. Once a girl has your attention, you're less fun to her. But this is only true for slutty, manipulative girls who fuck whoever they want, when they want.

1. Whatever you do, don't just show up at their house [without notice]...they run around in their underwear just like we do

2. DON'T CHEAT ON THEM. It may seem foolproof, but girls tell each other everything about everything. Trust me, they WILL find out and you will be mud. If you do cheat on them do not ever tlak to the girl or see the girl you cheated on them. They will be hurt , no matter what they say.

3. Beware of every single male relative and all guy friends. Any of them would kick your ass at the drop of a hat, and a lot of them wouldn't even wait for the hat.

4. NEVER miss an opportunity to tell them they're beautiful.

5. DON'T refuse to kiss in front of your friends. If they laugh at you, it's because they're jealous.

6. If they slap you hard, you deserved it.

7. Don't be afraid to touch them if you want to. If they're going out with you in the first place, it's because they like being in your arms.

8. If you don't sleep with them, DO NOT tell your friends that you did.

9. You can be dirty minded in private, really...most of them are not offended by it...

10. Not all of them eat like birds, a lot of them can eat like whales.

11. Most of them don't mind paying half of everything, but they do discuss these things with their friends. Realize that if you make your girlfriend pay half all the time, everyone will know about it and your friends will know you're a pussy..

11. Do you honestly need all your money that much? Be a man, pay all the time!

12. Every girl should eventually get three things from her boyfriend- a stuffed animal, ONE OF HIS SWEATSHIRTS, and a really PRETTY RING (plastic ones from machines count). Even if it's not a serious relationship.

13. Make sure she gets home safely as often as you can. If you're dropping her off, walk her to the door. If you aren't dropping her off, call to be sure she's home safely.

14. If a guy is bothering her, it is your right to beat the shit out of him.

15. If you're talking to a female friend of yours, PULL YOUR GIRLFRIEND CLOSER.

16. NEVER, ever slap her, even if it's just in a joking way. Even if she swats you first, and says, "Oh, you're so dumb" or something, never make any gestures back.

17. Go to a chick flick once in a while. She doesn't care whether you enjoy it or not, it just matters that you went.

18. You're dead meat if you can't get along with their pets, parents, and best friends. Be prince charming to their friends, Mr. Polite to their parents, and make sure to be nice to their animals.

19. Don't flirt with their moms...that's just freaky.

20. Don't be freaked out by PMS. It's not gross, and it really does make them feel like shit, so be understanding.

21. If you don't like the way they drive, you do it.

22. If you're officially dating, and you're introducing her to your friends, you'd better damn well introduce her as your girlfriend.

23. Don't stress where you go for every date. They really only want to be with you.

24. If they complain that something hurts, rub it for them WITHOUT being asked.

25. Girls are fragile. Even if you're play fighting/wrestling, be very gentle.

26. Memorize their birthdays. You forget her birthday and you're basically screwed for life.

27. Don't marinade the cologne, but smell good.

28. Don't give her something stupid for her birthday or Christmas or Valentine's day. It doesn't have to be expensive, but it has to be meaningful.

29. If you think the relationship isn't going to last, don't wait to find out. It will only hurt her more if you draw it out.

30. After you've been dating for a while, realize that they really have started to trust you. When you have a girlfriend who truly trusts you, you have a lot more responsibility, privilege and control than you would think. Be careful with it, most guys would kill for that kind of power, and it can be lost in a nanosecond.

31. NEVER, and i mean NEVER make her do anything she doesn't wanna do. Because if you do she'll think that you're only after one thing. (and i think you all know what that is) sex.

32. Girls love to be romantic, every once in a while surprise her with something. Take her on a picnic... etc. Girls need to be reassured that you love them.

I didn't write this, I just couldn't be bothered responding properly and this was in my 'insert note' option in Opera (Firefox is better) and thus, I do not take credit for it.

To your first point, how is he not being a gentleman when he's being a gentleman? Do you live in a world of make-believe and exploitation? Is your life a fucking porno with shit actors telling each other blatant lies to try to get me off?

Fuck man. A gentleman is a gentleman, and paying is not only gentlemanly, it makes me feel a big sense of responsibility too.

Secondly, who said anything about her not returning the favour? The whole point is that you share things together, your lives, what you do and what you both enjoy, and not just sex.

Thirdly, what rhetorical question?

Lastly, fuck the ladder theory.

those are some good points, but I don't agree with the paying for everything.

it's great to pay for stuff occasionally, as a gesture. but if you get her used to it, she will stop appreciating it, you will spend a lot of money, and you will feel like her bitch.

Meh, the ladder theory is merely made up for teenage boys with not much experience in life. All of my friends talk about it constantly and I suppose they support it.

I think it's reasonable logic, it does make obvious points.

I support most of it as far as relationships between men and women. I do believe that there's a certain line to be crossed when having an intimate relationship with somebody that you've cared about in a completely different way.

I believe the theory differs for different people. It can't be applied to all relations. I once dated a guy who I was friends with for about 2 years. When we dated I realized how much of an asshole he was and he didn't treat me very well. Needless to say, we're no longer friends. My best friend began dating her best friend. They broke up after a year or so of being together and they're still friends.

I think it's possible for men and women to befriend one another, despite common attractions.

All and all I believe this theory is quite simply common sense. It states the popular emotions one experiences through out life, usually in the younger years.

That list has so offended me I'm going to reply to it piece by piece.

quote:1. Whatever you do, don't just show up at their house [without notice]...they run around in their underwear just like we do

All the more reason to show up uninvited

quote:2.

Goes without saying.

quote:3. Beware of every single male relative and all guy friends. Any of them would kick your ass at the drop of a hat, and a lot of them wouldn't even wait for the hat.

I don't go out with Negroes.

quote:4. NEVER miss an opportunity to tell them they're beautiful.

If you do it too much it cheapens it.

quote:5. DON'T refuse to kiss in front of your friends. If they laugh at you, it's because they're jealous.

That's just vulgar. If they laugh at me, it's because they know I'm whipped as fuck.

quote:6. If they slap you hard, you deserved it.

If they slap me at all, it's over. Domestic violence is not fun.

quote:7. Don't be afraid to touch them if you want to. If they're going out with you in the first place, it's because they like being in your arms.

Oh I'm not

quote:8. If you don't sleep with them, DO NOT tell your friends that you did.

Who would do such a thing?

quote:9. You can be dirty minded in private, really...most of them are not offended by it...

They'd better not be!

quote:10. Not all of them eat like birds, a lot of them can eat like whales.

Alot of them look like wales too. As long is she doesn't wolf food down I have no problem. Infact, I barely notice, I'm too busy concentrating on my own food.

quote:11. Most of them don't mind paying half of everything, but they do discuss these things with their friends. Realize that if you make your girlfriend pay half all the time, everyone will know about it and your friends will know you're a pussy..

My friends would probably think I'm more of a pussy if I always pay for their shit. If I have more money than them, I'll pay for stuff from time to time. It's sort of a nice feeling, for both of you.

quote:11. Do you honestly need all your money that much? Be a man, pay all the time!

I'm poor as fuck. Yes, yes I do. I don't mind occasionally but I'm not missing out on buying cool shit just so I can be a charity case.

quote:12. Every girl should eventually get three things from her boyfriend- a stuffed animal, ONE OF HIS SWEATSHIRTS, and a really PRETTY RING (plastic ones from machines count). Even if it's not a serious relationship.

My girlfriend already has too many pretty rings. She can have one of my sweatshirts I guess, that's kinda cool. Stuffed animal? Hmmm...I'd rather not be so lame.

quote:13. Make sure she gets home safely as often as you can. If you're dropping her off, walk her to the door. If you aren't dropping her off, call to be sure she's home safely.

Goes without saying. Except calling every time. Jeez. This shit costs money. Most younger guys who follow these rules will either be in debt or just never go out.

quote:14. If a guy is bothering her, it is your right to beat the shit out of him.

Ummm...not every little thing warrants violence. Depends to what severity he's 'bothering' her. Usually a few words will get him to stop.

quote:15. If you're talking to a female friend of yours, PULL YOUR GIRLFRIEND CLOSER.

I generally don't like being all touchy feely around friends.

quote:16. NEVER, ever slap her, even if it's just in a joking way. Even if she swats you first, and says, "Oh, you're so dumb" or something, never make any gestures back.

Slapping a girlfriend is only acceptable during sex, and if she cheats on you.

quote:17. Go to a chick flick once in a while. She doesn't care whether you enjoy it or not, it just matters that you went.

GET FUCKED. If my girlfriend didn't care whether I enjoy myself or not, she's a selfish whore. Which she isn't. Because she does. But seriously fuck off.

quote:18. You're dead meat if you can't get along with their pets, parents, and best friends. Be prince charming to their friends, Mr. Polite to their parents, and make sure to be nice to their animals.

I'll do my best within reason.

quote:19. Don't flirt with their moms...that's just freaky.

Hahaha...who does this?

quote:20. Don't be freaked out by PMS. It's not gross, and it really does make them feel like shit, so be understanding.

It is gross, and I try.

quote:21. If you don't like the way they drive, you do it.

You can tell this is written by Americans.

quote:22. If you're officially dating, and you're introducing her to your friends, you'd better damn well introduce her as your girlfriend.

Course, why wouldn't her? Then again, my friends would already know about her, and it would be obvious.

quote:23. Don't stress where you go for every date. They really only want to be with you.

FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YA TELL ME!

quote:24. If they complain that something hurts, rub it for them WITHOUT being asked.

What if their intestines hurt? WHAT THEN?

quote:25.

True dat.

quote:31. NEVER, and i mean NEVER make her do anything she doesn't wanna do. Because if you do she'll think that you're only after one thing. (and i think you all know what that is) sex.

Hey I'm it for at least two things. One of them being sex yes. But seriously, sometimes women need to be made to do something they don't want to do, for their own good.

quote: 32. Girls love to be romantic, every once in a while surprise her with something. Take her on a picnic... etc. Girls need to be reassured that you love them.

Yeap, works both ways.

I dont care for the ladder theory but this list is full of shit. If guys were to make a list like this for girls to follow we'd be called selfish and pretentious. Besides, someone who completely follows that list and isnt totally attractive will get dumped/cheated on.

The ladder theory only seems to apply to idiots. The intelligent guys and girls I know are beyond it. The less intelligent ones think just like this. The idiot who wrote it just projected his own views onto "most guys" (a phrase he uses all the fucking time) and uses "you see this all the time" as a substitute for any kind of proof. The reason he (and not "most guys") sees this kind of thing all the time is because he's a typical idiot and hangs out with typical idiots, who generally chase typically idiotic girls. So, if the ladder theory rings entirely true for you, you're probably an idiot.

Oh, wait, that's not proof, really. Hang on, let me put that across in a scientific manner.

Most guys would consider you an idiot for believing in the ladder theory. I think everyone has thought this enough for us to accept it as a rigorous scientific proof that's utterly irrefutable. And if you do attempt to refute it, I'll call you an idiot instead of addressing the point, because I'm so superior to you (most guys would agree).

There. Now I'm just as smart as he is.

I still fail to see how the moron who wrote the thing would make a connection between not paying for everything and being a pussy as a result. Guess he's just too scared to tell her to pay her half

It's only exploitation if it's not his choice.

You obviously missed my point. Somehow. It was pretty freaking clear. Read it again.

Nitpicking?

What's your problem anyway.

You make many valid points supported by plenty of evidence. And next time, don't quote the whole fucking thing please. Not to mention they're suggestions, and any smart person will take out some ideas and leave others.

That particular part of this list I don't agree with either, along with a few other tidbits, but generally I find it good advice.

Who gives a fuck if it exists. It's only implication is, if you suck at getting laid, you have an excuse. Nobody who thinks about ladder theory gets laid, because only guys who don't get laid are going to think about such totally retarded concepts.

What bullshit. He says he gets his numbers from years of feildwork, uh huh. Yet they all break down ever so nicely into multiples of 10. 50% this, 20% this, 30% this. Nothing breaks down so evenly, least of all anything dealing with psychology.

My personal internal dictionary defines 'ladder' as:

Noun, a device used for those not tall and/or smart enough to a job by themselves.

And defines 'theory' as:

Noun, a way of pronouncing the words gossip, guess and assertion favoured by cowards.

There's your answer.
