Rememberance Sunday, join with me and fight the Man!
First off, I am aware that this doesn't belong here. But I am going to abuse my mod powers and post it anyway. So STFU in advance!
Tomorrow (Sunday) is Remembrance Sunday here in the UK. No idea what that is in American but something like 'Veterans Day' I guess?
It is the day when we remember our gallant, valiant war dead..*sarcasm drips*
And we conveniently forget about the atrocities committed by the Crown forces. For example how we invented concentration camps in South Afrika, how we tried to commit genocide in Ireland, How we bbq'd 30,000 civilians in Dresden in one night, how 9000 German woman were raped the day the british 'liberated' Hamburg etc etc
Part of the whole day is a national two minute silence at 11 AM. As in previous years i will be commandeering my son's fuck off and die PA system with sub woofy-thingy. I shall throw open the windows and 'pump up the volume' as you kids say.
I shall treat my neighbourhood to 'The Rifles Of The IRA'.
I urge all Brit totseans to join me!
Fight the Man!
Fight the Powah!

The British may have committed atrocities, but I think that that doesn't take away from the good they did in opposing Hitler & co. And I say this as a proudly pure-blooded Deutscher, who loves Germany and its language and culture.
Edit: Of course, there is that Irish bit... but still, you're not only dishonoring the soldiers that comitted the atrocities but also those who valiantly laid down their lives.

Re: Rememberance Sunday, join with me and fight the Man!
I'll bow my head in respect tomorrow for the aged veteran that can't think back to the Great War without tears coming to his eyes.
This isn't about the government, it's about the people that fought and died; as well as those that fought and lived.
In Canada, Rememberance Day may not be the most observed of holidays, but you don't see too many people without their poppy.
I am not one to support the armed forces, but it does no good to disrespect the sacrifices made by past generations.

You mean after they had helped him to power and supplied him with toys?
Oh where have i heard that recently?
Ahhh yes that nice Mr. Saddam....zu Risiken und Nebenwirkungen, lesen Sie 'n Geschichtsbuch oder fragen Sie Ihre Grosseltern.
Oh btw one of the few things that really pisses me off about the Germans is when they talk about how Hitler 'seized power' (Macht ergriffen). They fucking voted for him! But whenever the subject comes up in conversation or in the media then they perpetuate that particular myth.

In regard to WW1, the ones who really sacrificed were the 'Conchies'. Not the conscripts who were dumb enough to obey, or the volunteers who were indoctrinated enough to believe, that war was some how glorious.

Nope, the real losers in any war are truth, honesty and women and kids.
Don't get me wrong, I'm about a million miles from being a pacifist. I have no problem with violence or killing to support a cause I believe in (for example i have great sympathy with the groups who bomb abortion clinics).
What i detest is the fascism and hypocrisy of the British remembrance day.
You know today a famous newsreader here dared to openly speak out about how they (he called them 'fascists' btw) try and force everyone in the public gaze to wear a poppy?

Re: Rememberance Sunday, join with me and fight the Man!
I have no problem with with remembering the dead.
I am against glorifying wars however.
I'm from New Zealand our military history is nothing to gloat about. We've only ever fought other peoples wars, Helping the British Empire in such nobel endeavours as chasing Boers across Southern Africa and the Americans in preventing Vietnamese self-determination.
On ANZAC day I remember the dead. But I will not praise them.

Unwise, to be sure, but I doubt they knew he was going to start exterminating Jews &co. His only talk at first was of deportation.

quote:After a bigger landslide in July 1932 (44%), their vote declined and their movement weakened (Hitler lost the presidential election to WWI veteran Paul von Hindenburg in April; elections of November 1932 roughly 42%), so Hitler decided to enter a coalition government as chancellor in January 1933.
Upon the death of Hindenburg in August 1934, Hitler was the consensus successor. With an improving economy, Hitler claimed credit and consolidated his position as a dictator, having succeeded in eliminating challenges from other political parties and government institutions. The German industrial machine was built up in preparation for war. In November 1937, he was comfortable enough to call his top military aides together at the "Führer Conference," when he outlined his plans for a war of aggression in Europe. Those who objected to the plan were dismissed.
He seized power. He was never actually voted into the office.

I was already stopped and silenced for a minute today.
I think it was worth it.

It seems there will also be a two minute silence today as well. Unless the BBC Radio 4 is wrong (an unthinkable thought!)

Fact of like #235: If you don't stomp the shit out of people sooner or later, they will stomp the shit out of you.
The British empire launched us into the age we have today, born on the backs of native Genocide. Were they really wrong to do it though?

Ok, just Limewired a fresh copy of Wolfe Tones 'Rifles of The IRA', burned it and will now give it to youngest offsprung to set up in his music system (http://tinyurl.com/ylvkzl).
He'll have to set it up for me cos I'm old and have trouble with anything that doesn't involve vinyl and a needle.

Fuck you,jackketch.
Regardless of the attrocities this country has done, rememberance fucking sunday isnt to celebrate what a great country this isnt,
it's to fucking remember the people, our relatives, who fought to fucking protect us!
I'll for one be remember and thanking my mothers father. I dont know much about the war or all the patriotical bullshit, but I thank him, I doubt that I'd be here if it wasnt for him.
You seem pretty ignorant, jacketch, doing shit like that.
Regardless of how big and scary a person looked, if he was sitting there with a boombox telling everyone how shit and worthless my grandfathers efforts were, I'd fucking break your fucking face.

This post gets the Brown Shirts Seal Of Approval. However if you could have thrown in an insult about my ethnicity (I'm part jewish)it would have been even better.
Remind me again which freedoms your Granddad was fighting to protect?
