Default engagement questions.

ok, im not very clear on this engagement stuff, so can someone help me? I would like to propose to my current girlfriend (we already talked it over last week, and she agreed) but i dont know the rules.

what should i say?

what kind of ring?

its the ringer finger (duh) but is there a specific hand?

anything else to help me out would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

dude, this is not something you should be asking an internet forum. that's coming from someone who likes giving advice to people. a marriage proposal should come from the heart and mind of the person giving it. do it in a manner that you think would resonate with her.

by the way good luck and congratulations on finding a girl who you think is right for you.

and to answer the technical question, the ring goes on the second to last finger of her left hand.

What's the rule for the ring, one months salary?

He's right.

The ring finger is the left hand, fourth finger (the one between the pinky and the middle).

Diamonds are a girls best friend - look at her current jewellry - does she wear gold, silver or white gold?

If you want her ring size then take a ring of hers that she wears on that finger (or from the other hand) and have it measured.

Her left?

Also, are you supposed to ask for the fathers permission before or after you ask the lady?

Not that I'm thinking of doing this anytime soon...

Yes, the left hand. The right hand fourth finger is the dress ring finger - that's where I wear my ring (the one that I never take off).

It's traditional to ask the father, but it isn't so common these days unless you know her family is old school.

You guys are soooo right!

Being mature enough to marry depends solely on one's knowledge of the correct hand to wear a ring on and the type of ring being used.
