outside influences
I'm curious as to those people who have had a positive influence on your life. Who has inspired you in such a way that you find something greater in yourself than what you previously thought was there?

Re: outside influences
Scarily, the opposite is true of me.
When I was with my ex, I didnt really do much art work.
Now I'm all alone and hurt and all that bad shit, I've somehow started drawing again. And frighteningly, it aint all that bad.
I think I'm just trying to box in my sadness and crush it under the weight of badly drawn skyscrapers and cars.

oc6, who makes me question what was, for me, unquestionable. Who causes me to redefine myself daily.
And who takes away the hurt.

Re: outside influences
I met these three guys this summer. I thought they were dirty hicks at first.
Turned out... they kind of were, but one of them in particular really had a positive impact on me. He taught me, without trying, how to just let things go and enjoy life.
Well, I haven't learned entirely, but I'm getting there.

Re: outside influences
It's her amazing granny-like abilities that give it away.
I'm inspired on a daily basis. It isn't hard to find inspiration in someone you care about or know well.
I've been inspired before and will be inspired again. In fact, I'm inspired at the moment.
I wouldn't say that it brings out something greater, but it allows you to delve deeper into yourself and to put part of someone else into your works. This added aspect of togetherness enhances the work.
For me, inspiration takes the form of actions, pictures, or words.

Re: outside influences
Inspiration coming in from the outside, as influences often do (unless they're ingested), are invariably poignant, but not so stringent in sources.
What I mean is that one does not require a sexual, if only in thoughts, relation to the muse of the moment, and that inspiration can take many forms. A great deal of my inspiration, for example, comes from nature, but more frequently from nature in its relation to humans. How terrains producing wheat, and big dumb animals flourished inspiring humans to attempt to conquer the world only to find this same area become desert inspiring humans to, still, conquer the world. The balance that un-historic (shouldn't be read as pre-historic) civilizations such as !Kung and yanamamo have obtained with the world creating no desire to kill those with different gods, or to expand their territory in search for forms of wealth to satisfy their scarcity. How human life in its entirety seems analagous to a vast ocean of currents, full of diversity and cycles, beautiful and endless, while society in its contemporary seems more comporable to a tornado, short-tempered and shorter-lived.
That being said my girlfriend inspires me like none other, and it is one of the reasons that I love her so. Not just creatively either, but in life. If it wasn't for her I may not be here as my all day, every day, habit of drinking was begging to finally slit my throat (not a drop in three months, and my drinking had reduced to a few times a month since I had met her leading up to completely stopping.) She has inspired me to leadership roles on my campus; inspired me to pick up old, better habits of tae kwon do; inspired me to quit smoking.
Yet, it still seems that I haven't answered your question, doesn't it? In terms of creativity, yes, she inspires me, though I haven't written much directly about her except for one unfinished song in lyrical form and finger picks on my guitar, but a plethora of philisophical prose has been produced as progeny of her propensity at making me perceive my potential possibilities.
She inspires me in many ways: as a midwife to brilliant thought as she is devastatingly intelligent, as a means of expression as she is editor of an expressive, artistic, mostly literary magazine, as a goal to win her fancy as her beautiful smile is something well worth coaxing out, and, most importantly, she makes me believe in myself.
She's truly amazing, and I'm really sorry that none of you can have her.

Re: outside influences
honestly, the only people so far to change me for the better have been my mother, and myself.
I've changed myself for the worse too, though. but somehow I always take care of it in the end. I'm quite good at introspection.

If you will take a moment to recall, grey hair is only a requirement for being a sweet little old lady. You still fulfill age the qualifications for granny.

I stopped coloring my hair. I decided it might be good to embrace myself just as I am....granny....or no. I find I'm a bit fascinated by the glimmer in my hair.
If I change my mind and decide I don't like it...I just might go blonde.

Introspection is good, but it's also good to see yourself thru someone else's eyes. We're not so good at being objective and can get wrapped up in certain ideas about ourselves.

definitely. but I really spend a lot of time with it and just like I've learned to question everything, even messages from, say, political parties that I trust for propaganda, I think that sometimes I can detect if I'm lying to myself.

Re: outside influences
In all honesty, I don't think anyone's ever been able to influence me that much. One person kinda made an impact on me... my ex. Stupid goddamn assfuck that he was, I started dating him when I was going through one of those "finding myself" phases, and he's really spiritual and whatnot and just listening to his psychotic ramblings made me delve deeper into a lot of weird, philosophical, sci-fi, conspiracy-type, religious things that I'd always been interested in but never really looked into. Perfect example of that "the bad always comes with the good" saying, or whatever it is. I'm a totally different person now, and I'm pretty happy about it.

I do love questioning things Argus, I must admit.
Demoiselle, how are you different? How were you vs. how you are now? Just curious...

Umm... to put it shortly, I grew up. I don't know how much expanding that needs. I just changed a lot of my priorities and such.
