Default B.C. question.

GAH. Ok, so I'm freaking out a little bit. I'm on birth control, and I haven't gotten my period. I've been under lots of stress lately, and I was just taking antibiotics, and I know all that can cause missed periods, but I thought b.c. caused it to always happen, no matter what.

It's highly unlikely that I'm pregnant, but it's possible. So can you miss periods for other reasons while on b.c.? I really hope so...

I don't know about your question, but I think some antibiotics fuck with birth control.

Even if you are on birth control I've known people who can still miss their period if they're undergoing severe changes in their life or stress and anxiety, but I'm talking about moving away for a year and the such. You could also be pregnant, just go to planned parenthood and take a pregnancy test? What kind of birth control are you using? When you're on the last color of the pill with no hormone and you're still not getting your period you'd want to get tested. Also if I'm nearing the end of my cycle and I'm nervous that I'm pregnant I just take out the ring out and see, no harm no foul.

Did you just start the birth control? Sometimes it throws off the regularity of your period because of all the extra hormones. It can be a little sporadic until your body gets used to it.

Cute Euda.

I thought that the period you got while on birth control was like... fake, or something. I didn't know it could be missed unless you were pregnant. Google isn't telling me anything useful. UGH. My boyfriend isn't worried at all. I'm going insane here.

Don't worry. I just started birth control so I've still got all the pamphlets I got and stuff. My doctor said it's very possible to miss periods while on birth control, especially in times of stress, changed eating habits/sleep habits. Antibiotics do make it less effective however. The pill is 99.9% effective if you take it properly, so as long as you havn't missed any you're probably just fine.

Just calm down, get yourself to the pharmacy and get a test. And good luck.

Thank you, that calmed me down a bit. All the reliable looking websites I've read have said that the antibiotics I was on wouldn't interfere with birth control. So hopefully it's just stress. But if I don't get my period in the next few days I'll get a test (EEEP ) This sucks. I got all my usual pre-period symptoms so I dunno what the hell is going on.

A pregnancy test would reassure you faster. You ARE on the last 7 non hormone set of pills, right?

I'm sure you're fine. You've had exams and school and a break up.

Just keep in mind for the future that British Columbia does not prevent pregnancy. I, in fact, know people that were born there.

Yes. I take my last active pill on Thursday and always get my period Monday morning. So really it's only been a day, but it's been the same pretty much to the hour ever since I started taking b.c., and it's been just about a year.

You actually have a fair amount of leway with the pill. If you're scared just stop taking the active ones and jump to the last set, then you'll get it faster and it doesn't really fuck anything up. I honestly think anxiety pushed it back a little bit but take a test just to be sure, planned parenthood is the shit about that kind of thing.

*note: The ring is Soooooo much better, I highly recommend it over the pill or the patch.

I bet me being so freaked out right now isn't making it come any faster either. Blah. I can't believe how worried I am. At least there's no issue about what happens if I'm pregnant though. Oh god that sounds scary.

A period happens because every month your uterus prepares itself to care for a child, should you get pregnant, thickening the uteran walls. If the egg for that month is unfertilized, the extra lining will leave your body, along with the unfertilized egg (which is why you bleed).

It still prepares the same way when you're on the pill, but (and this is where I get a little confused on the details, so sorry if I mess them up) the pill provides your body with extra estrogen which doesn't allow the egg to be fertilized. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong with this exactly.

My point is, the period happens the same way, and for the same reason (the egg wasn't fertilized). When you skip a period on the pill, it could be from stress, just like skipping a period from stress when you aren't on the pill. It's still a real period, though.

If you really are stressed, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Take a test, just to be sure, but don't stress yourself out or it probably will take longer.
