All of the above things are true.. I honestly haven't left my house for months. Ive never kissed a girl (im 16 btw) I spend nearly all of the time on my PC. If someone says hello to me and tries to start a conversation, I dont know what to do. Im scared of people. I cant even talk to regular adults, yet alone people my own age.

Even though my parents are supportive I can barely talk to them without feeling like shit. I just cant handle social interactions. Im a loser. I dropped out of school and dont even have any GCSES. Everyone has a better life than me. I dont know what the fuck to do. In any social situation im the quiet fuck in the corner. In smaller gatherings I seem like a weirdo and dont know what to say.

There's a program called Sublime that flashes text messages on your computer screen at regular intervals, it can either show preset messages of various sorts, or you can program it to flash whatever messages you like.

Try for a month or two either using the self-esteem type presets, or your own presets containing messages to contradicts every particular negative belief you have about yourself.

Just try it for a month. It requires no effort other than running the program, then you just keep doing whatever you'd normally do.

Positive self-belief is the key to living a happy life. Without it, happiness is impossible.

I have. I've been to several counsellors and i've been on antidepressants. Nothing has worked and they can't offer any further solutions. I dont know what to do.

1. Look back on your life, think positivly on it, take all the (fucking) negitive thoughts out of your head. Take a deep breath or two.

2. Make a list (mentally or physically, I dont care) about your positive and negitive characteristics.

3. Get the fuck out of S&A forum, and go to Humanities (look into the philosphy, i'm sure you know the definition of that word), DIY, Eat your words, and Reinvent Yourself. these forums can help you.

4. Start working out. lifting weights can ease off stress and pressure, also builds muscle and you slowly become healthier. It also builds confidence in the way you look and feel. Working out is a good boost of confidense!

5. try to have (and try to start) conversations with people. Practice; It might take time but its worth it.

And continue from their. Clense yourself, start a new.

My routine is like this.. Get up in the morning, stay on the computer all day and only leave to eat or piss. Go to sleep when I get so tired I can't keep my eyes open anymore. See my counsellor on wednesdays. Thats it.

I do that. I'm not scared of people at all, I can appear extremely confident by my body language because I fake it so well. I've done all of the above but the fifth and do exercise regularly. Even though i'm extremely pale my physique is muscular because apart from being on my PC all day its the only thing I do. It doesnt help. Im still depressed as fuck. Where would I meet people? What do I say? How do people have conversations? I just dont know how it works. i am like you, too, except not to such an extreme degree. You should try to figure out why you act in this manner. It seems many American teens, myself being one, have a goddamn martyr complex. I used to be depressed a lot, and a good portion of the reason was because, really, I just wanted to be depressed. Figure out why you are depressed as honestly as you possibly can. There is no use in lying to yourself about something. I'm not so much depressed these days, and though I'm still quite a bit socially anxious, I'm continually trying to fix the problem. I don't know how you feel. I would assume you would like to fix things, since you are asking for help, but perhaps you are talking about it because of ego. Either way, there is not much anyone can really do for you. Or at least that was my case. It has been a problem only I can fix. And being able to fix it has relied largely on my willingness and actual desire to fix it :\

Start having practice conversations with your parents, i think I know what you mean by not knowing what to say. Just talk about anything, and continuously branch off from whatever your starting topic is.

You have to realize that people are willing to accept who you are, unless they get the feeling that you are unwilling to accept them. Just talk about anything man, I'm sure you have built up a wealth of knowledge with all the time you spend on the computer. Since I'm sure you aren't about to start calling people left and right to hang out, try meeting people in chatrooms and talking to them about random shit, if worse comes to worse and you lock up real bad then you can just block them and never talk to them again.

This will definitely give you an idea of how to talk to people, especially considering that you will be talking to complete strangers.

Look man, my uncle is just like how you describe yourself, he is 40 something years old now and lived with my grandma since the day he was born. When she died about 5 years ago or so he moved to the shittiest apt ever. He never had a girl friend, and hasn't had a friend in 20 some odd years. He spends all his time on his computer, and only goes out to buy groceries at night when no one is around. He has SEVERE depression, and terrible anxiety, he simply cannot be around people. He can only work jobs on the internet, and hardly makes enough money to pay the rent for his shit ass apartment.

Its a bad life to live man, get out of the cycle before it totally consumes you. Think of yourself as being caught in the center of a snowball, the longer you let it build up the harder it becomes to get out.

Join a boxing gym. Build yourself, learn to fuck people up. Its the only sport where all you rely on is yourself, and its fun and therewpetic or whatever the fuck.

are you any good at anything what can you talk about confidently play to your advantages, you say you spend alot of time on the pc you play games? go to a LAN party, never been but i guess you get drunk play games and pretty much limited social interaction and when you do talk you can discuss the things that you like.

Like wise for sports you'r too busy playing to actually get into deep convos, and afterwards just find some one else who's reasonably seperate from other people just go next to em and say something along the lines of :

just keep the convo flowing, it easier if it 1:1 or a small group but you'll prob need to be more confident in yourself if you want to join in with a group of say 10 or so..

Well... shit happens. I know the feeling, its the feeling most people get when they talk to someone they like (meaning your at a loss of words). I can talk to most anybody and be friendly with them, but not somebody I like.

Start with easy things, like saying "nice weather we're having" to the lady at the grocery store and things like that. Try to talk with your family, but try not to bitch and moan. Talk to them about something youve read on teh intertzor, something you saw, a funny movie or something.

Im 16 and never kissed a girl, also had some social problems, not real disorders though. Thing with me is that im very angry (although you wouldnt tell it, im usually quiet and polite, like most murderers) with many things. And bear in mind, love turns into hate in seconds, and I have a problem with this too (turning against people I liked a day ago, enough to "harm" them).

Try to get a tan, its not something important, but itll give you an emotional boost (its winter though , so better wait till summer). Start doin outdoor stuff, like cleaning around (work) or sports (cyclig, jogging etc.).

And try to list what you hate about yourself (just DONT fall into self-hatred, i have a mjor problem with this too ) and try to overcome those difficulties. Ask around here or other forum (Reinvent yourself is good), read some prose, watch some films, some news and youll get an overall idea of how to act among people.

I feel the same way as you; I try not to look outwardly depressed, but I really can't socialize at all, and my PC is my best friend. I skipped almost the whole school year four years ago, so I know how that is. Yes, I was glad that I went back.

What kind of antidepressants have you tried? SSRIs are ineffective in 75-85% of social anxiety patients. Like The Spirit Of Jazz said, try benzodiazepines if you haven't already. Although, they probably won't help with social interaction if you have absolutely no social skills like me.

There are some books out there on social skills, but generally they assume you at least have some knowledge. I guess a good one to start with is the old classic, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie".

(obviously don't use shoes all the time, but anything that catches your interest)

it really isnt that hard to socialize, and once you realize this, youll make friends, and with friends, comes a social life!

I suggest finding (1) person male/female is your choice that is willing to help/listen to you.Of course,people of the same condition might not be the best solution,(example: your both depressed,feel like shit,hate the world,then one of you starts talking of killing/suicide.Your both so low in morale that you might just kill yourselves,others or both...So be careful what you choose!!special doctors might not be the best solution either,because they tend to just want to stuff you full of drugs and make cash off of your problems.I would recommend a social worker or whatever that is young(better understanding of young peoples situation - less time gap between generations),works from the streets up and can choose patients/cases they want,not take whatever case comes up,so they will be more inclined to really help you.

Like I said,beware of doctors who keep filling you with drugs,its not good!

You probably have Social anxiety / phobia and / or Avoidant Personality Disorder. I am probably one of the only people here that can possibly understand where you're coming from because I suffer from social phobia and depression. People are going to tell you to "suck it up", "stop being such a pussy" and all that shit, but they have no fucking clue what it's like. I'm not here to give you any advice since I'm really at the lowest point in my life right now and nothing has worked so far, but I recommend searching for social anxiety / phobia message boards and actively participating in them since they would obviously know more about it than anyone in here.

update on my situation.. I still have no life. Ive tried posting at totse more for at least some kind of social contact, but every time I post or make a thread except here I get shot down and flamed by every replier, whereas other people seem to be liked... its like a needle striking my heart when that happens because these are my best social attempts failing. I'm 24 and basically the same way as you but I really like my life. I am on disability and medication for it and I get to stay home all day and play games and read and watch tv and play with my dog and I don't have to go out into the real world.

I know exactly what you're talking about! I am the same way...except I didn't stay inside the house for months and stay online lol. I think it mostly started when I started high school. I was soooooo self-conscious and had really low self-esteem. I'm really quiet and I never talked in class, never raised my hand before, could never start a conversation with anyone and it's even more harder in big groups. When people do talk to me all I can ever say is "haha....oh really.....oh hahahaha...oh ok................" and I just feel so retarded! Is it going to require any effort one way or the other? No.

The makers of the program say that it works best if the messages flash visibly on screen, say for .5 seconds, which would fit in with what is said on my second link above about threshold exposure.

Point is, it requires no effort and has a nonzero chance of helping.

As for my personal experience I've used the program on a regular basis for a year or two and it has UNQUESTIONABLY been useful.

My attitude is that it's like vitamins. Not gonna cause any miracle quick fixes, but if used on a regular basis there's a rational basis for expecting it to have a positive effect.

Anyway, I'm not trying to sell it.

Where do I put the words?

You might need to enter the serial code to unlock Sublime first, but Aseren posted one earlier in this thread.

In the program's main window, first click "New/Reset"

Then click "Save", and just tell it to save as a new preset

Then click "OK"

Now back in the main window you'll be able to click on "Messages"

Alternatively you can open up any of the presets that come with the program, and when you click "Messages" you can edit the ones already written.

Just make sure to click "Finished" when you're done instead of closing the Messages window, or it won't save any of the stuff you typed (at least that happened to me once or twice and it was fucking annoying)

There's a box flashing on my screen cause it's on subliminal. I thought I'd not see anything. I don't feel like Rambo yet either.

If you set it on "subliminal", then you won't see anything consciously. How fast do you have it cycling? If it's flashing every 2 or 3 seconds naturally it's going to cause a flicker.

Leaving it on for .5 seconds or so means you see it consciously, which like I said is supposed to be more effective than subliminal but personally I find it too annoying. Well in theory the best thing would be somewhere between "subliminal" and the next increment up, the next increment remains on screen for too long IMO. I just leave it to run at "subliminal".

However you can change the vertical position on the screen where the message is flashed, if it's at the very top of the screen it's not so bad.

Don't bother with the program unless you're going to leave it running on a regular basis, like I said it's similar to vitamins.

You need to make a pact with yourself that your going to do WHATEVER it takes to change even if it hurts. Your the only one who can get yourself out of this mess. You can never look back

Try to get out of the house everyday. Going to the gym or walking could work. The qym might be too much for you right now though

Force youself into uncomfortable situations. You could go back to school or take GED classes. This will force you into social situations daily. Getting a job and going to college helped me a lot

Maybe try to read inspirational quotes or listen to inspirational music(Eye of the Tiger, We are the champions, etc)

This won't help you overnight. I've been at this for almost a year and I'm just starting to feel close to normal
