I'm just curious...
For those in relationships, is one of you messy and one of you clean?
I've only had two boyfriends, but both of them always ended up cleaning up after me because I'm a really messy person.
I'm planning on cleaning my room for my boyfriend today. He said he'd be shocked and amazed if I actually did it. The past two times he's visited me, he's ended up doing all my laundry and cleaning my room for me! I tell him not to, but he does it anyway.
He calls me his dirty girl, and I call him my Mr. Clean, lol.
So yeah, are you guys like that, or do clean people generally date clean people and messy date messy?
Just wondering...

Re: I'm just curious...
I'm not sure if people specifically choose to date others with the opposite cleaning standards of themselves. I think their own standards has a lot to do with the development at home and such. Perhaps when people go into a relationship, they see the cues of power and automatically relate cleanliness towards that person. Je ne sais pas.

I'm a hypocrite. My place has to be kept clean (by her) or I beat her ass. At her place, I don't give a shit.

Re: I'm just curious...
I'm obsessive about cleanliness. I was with my boyfriend once in his room and it was soooo gross... cm thick layer of dust, mountain of dirty laundry, weird smell... I told him I wasn't coming over anymore if it was that icky. It was much improved the next day.

Haha, no matter how much anyone complains about my room, I'd never clean it. I went for about 7 months without cleaning it. I was too high to care. *shudder*

Re: I'm just curious...
The messy one isn't cool.
He'll be impressed and happy to be able to do other things with you, things that don't involve laundry soap and wastebaskets.
Edit: I like things to be fairly clean all the time. A method to any madness that happens to be about.

Re: I'm just curious...
Haha, I'm a pretty neat person. It's hard to make my room seem spotless as its in an unfinished basement, but its always clutter free and NEVER smelly. As far as girls I date I don't really like messy people, though one of the girls I'm dating is pretty messy (not dirty, just like everything is thrown everywhere). Doesn't really bother me except when I'm in her car and am like stepping on her clothes and shit.

Re: I'm just curious...
my boyfriend is messy in that week-old beer cans, mountain of dirty laundry, clips his nails on the carpet, "i'll mop up that puddle of water in the corner later" sort of way. i'm more of just a strew everything everywhere kind of messy. then i clean everything to perfection about once a week, and slowly it goes back to strewn everywhere day by day.

Re: I'm just curious...
When I live alone I'm very tidy.
When I live with someone else, for whatever reason, that seems to go right out the window.

Not yet. I'm too scared. But my boyfriend is coming up today, so he'll help me.
My plan is to withdraw from this semester, come back and take a few classes next semester and then transfer to U of C. Thanks for asking!

Re: I'm just curious...
Being with someone that is messy is cute for a while but soon he'll be like," why the fuck are you so messy, clean up after yourself for once". So there's a little advice, it's bound to happen if you move in together.

Yeah, I've thought about that. And we are going to be moving in together, but I figure I'll be cleaner when it's actually my own place, not just a dorm/my room at the 'rents.

Make sure he takes you to Student Services. They will be able to help you.
Don't tell them your plan right off the bat. Ask them what options you have at your disposal.

I lol'd
While my room may not always be the tidiest, when someone comes over (like a girlz0rz) I make sure to at least get rid of dirty dishes, new rubbish bag, clean my sheets, and make sure my room is navigatable.

Good thing you're not my boyfriend.
Thanks for the advice, Euda. You're always so level headed. Unlike me, lol.

Re: I'm just curious...
I couldn't date someone as messy as that. Dirty laundry kills me. I hate it.
I'm not clean to the point of Danny Tanner, but I certainly don't like my garbage to grow a personality or my clothes to smell stronger than a deli case.

Never a problem. Try and make use of it.
I'm sure your boyfriend will be properly supportive, so you'll be completely fine.

Re: I'm just curious...
No matter how much I tidy my appartment, whenever someone comes to visit they'll allways say 'oh, it's lovely! it will look even better when you've tidied up a bit!'
I'm not a slob. I cant fucking stand mess. But at the same time, I have a..thing.. for shiny stuff. And collect shiny stuff I do.
Also there's a distinct lack of furniture except for a coffee table for computer and bed so my idea of tidy is not the same as other peoples, because I see no reason with what's wrong with making bookshelves out of cement blocks or storing stuff ontop of bigger stuff.
It all works.
My ex allways had a habit of chucking clothes on the floor, which I cant stand. Apart from anything, if they're chucked on the floor they might get creepy crawlies in them. Or, it means that he was expecting the magical laundry fairy to appear in the night to come and take the clothes away.
Is there a way to be TidyMessy? Kind of like that car advert BigSmall, I guess.

Re: I'm just curious...
I'm disgustingly messy.
It's my attention span. Some things hold my attention for ages, like books and music and the computer. Sitting down things. But if I'm up and doing stuff I have the attention span of a five year old. So stuff gets chucked about and left half finished everywhere.
There was a guy I only saw a couple of times who actually did my washing up
I think if I ever found a guy who was as messy as me the small portion of the universe we inhabited would implode.
