Default Amourous Quagmire (long, but I'd really like some aid)

Homecoming's, understandably, been a hot topic at my school for the past month, and a few months ago, I determined that I would ask out Rachel, a relatively close friend of mine. I realized that I really, really did like her, and a week ago, I eventually managed to round enough guts to be able to ask her out. I went to my knees, (as she usually sat on the ground for lunch) and asked, "Do you wanna go to homecoming with me?"

She slowly looked upward, cracked a smile and said "Well... I'm all ready going with Ting..." and as my hopes were extinguishing rapidly, she quickly fired off, "as friends, of course, but I'd love to go with you!" I swiftly, yet reluctantly accepted, and simply left it at that. I mean, she was tied up with a different "date," so I assumed it was a polite way of simply stating the fact that she might like to, but couldn't.

After school, however, a few hours into the afternoon, I received a text message from Rachel, which said this: (and I quote) "I was pretty much an asshole at lunch.wut i meant is,yes id love 2 go w/ u. ting was being weird cuz he thot he had to have a date 2 go [to homecoming] so he askd me."

So I responded with a very happy, "All right, awesome!"

So, Ting, as I understand it, was left alone, but he really, in my mind, wanted only to "have" a date, and not so much want to have a date he likes. So I remained very content, and starting speaking with Rachel much more frequently than ever before. After lunch a few days later, I see one of Rachel's friends, so I politely smiled and said "hey." She smiled back, and started to walk with me. She smiled again, and then said, "So... you like Rachel?" I turned towards her, smiled and said "Yeah, hehe, I do, but let's not tell her, huh?" We both laughed, and she said back, "But you know, she likes you too, but it's a bit awkward since you like each other, are going to homecoming, but aren't officially going out." at which point I asked back, "So I should ask her out?" and she looked at me, and said "Yeah, but do it after homecoming, to see how it goes." My insides were like fire, as I was beyond happy. The next day, however, was (understandably) very awkward. We chatted and so on, but her friend again told me after lunch, "So I told her what we talked about yesterday, and she said that that's exactly it."

Earlier that morning, however, as I was walking down the hall to get to class, (semi-conscious, of course) she was about to affectionately tap my shoulder, but I had looked away just as she did that, so she walked on, although I had noticed the wonderful way she smelt, so I turned around and frantically (not really) said "Oh, hi!" but she didn't hear. The lunch was pretty awkward, and I am confused as to whether or not it is because I moved away when she was about to "pet" me that she wasn't as outgoing as she usually is at lunch, or if it is just due to the fact that she pretty much "officially" found out that she liked me?

Second of all, after school today, Vanessa, an estranged friend of mine said, "Dude, you stole Ting's date," at which point I walked on, and told myself "Whatever."

However, on AIM tonight, I spoke with Ting, and after asking him "Do you actually like Rachel or do you just want a date to show off?" at which point he replied "hahaha, both... haha," because, a whole other spin of the story is that when HE asked her, he said "Oh, do you want to go... as friends," as opposed to me asking her as a date.

I really, really like Rachel, but I feel guilty about my friend not taking the initiative to really ask her out straightforwardly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So anyways, I'd like my bolded question answered, along with maybe whether or not my guilt is unfounded or not.
I apologize for the text's length, but by gosh, I'm awfully confused.
Thanks in advance, folks!
Dont worry too much about it, just loosen up, tell a few jokes. It'll be fine.
Yeah, I probably should. I get worried that I'm doing something wrong, though, but thanks.
After watching a few series of Family Guy, and spending a year or two on totse, I was expecting this thread to be much more perverted after reading the title.
