"I have plans..."
I've always wondered if there was a polite way to do this.
Say you're planning on asking a friend to hang out, but you haven't gotten a hold of them yet.
So somebody else says "Hey, are you busy tomorrow?"
You technically don't have plans, but you plan on making them... so you can't say "I have plans" because half the time, people are nosey fuckers and say "Oh, what are you doing?" And you can't say "I'm hanging out with John tomorrow" because what if John can't hang out?
And sometimes, they keep asking. Is it rude to say "I was going to see if John could hang out," cause that seems like you prefer John over this person? And even if you do, that's not something you want to say...
This isn't a specific problem, it's just something I've wondered. I'm able to escape this situation by saying "I have no gas" because I live so far away... and most of the time, I really don't have the gas to go anywhere.

Re: "I have plans..."
I usually just make up vague plans, or say I'll call them later. I usually do call, but I'll have a good excuse ready. Haha, I bet all my friends know when I do this.

Yeah, it comes with the territory of being female. Guys don't have that underlying cattiness to their relationships.

Just make something up:
"I'm having a family dinner"
"I'm going out with my boyfriend"
"Me and [insert appropriate friend here] are going [insert movie here]"
They're not going to call and check on you.

You can put it down to you being a little bit strange. If you act strange, it's hard to be rude. Comprendo? Good. Now fly my precious!

Re: "I have plans..."
Let's say you were planning to go the movies with John.
Just tell your friend, "Sorry, I was planning to go to the movies tomorrow." No other parties are specifically mentioned, and you are scot-free if the plans don't work out.

Re: "I have plans..."
If I was ever in a situation where I had more than one friend, I'd just be like
"hey yeah! I was gonna hang out with /whoever/, lets all hang out together!"

Yeah, you're thinking too hard.
Just tell it like it is - you want to hang out with someone, but haven't had the chance to make the plans; and you'll get back to whoever this new person is you may make new plans with.

That line always gets me... Like they're trying to keep it cool. I like took that phrase and burned it out of my mind. I never say it now.

Re: "I have plans..."
In this case, I usually go with "I'm unsure of my plans and am waiting for my boss to call me back"....
works for me.

Has worked for me.
I usually say something like "I probably can't, I have homework/work/family function/etc., but I'll call you if I can." That way it doesn't seem like an outright rejection!

Re: "I have plans..."
I dunno.. I'd be kind of offended if I asked a friend if they wanted to hang out and they said basically, that they had better plans, but they'd resort to hanging out with me if their *real* plans fell through.

Re: "I have plans..."
Fucking women If someone has plans, but they don't end up happening, what do you want them to do? They call someone they know wanted to do something that night.
If you can't handle being the second choice one night, maybe you should stick to gerbils.
