Since me and my ex split, and I'm still completely in love with her. I go through phases of fooling myself, when I occupy myself briefly with other girls, but it's only temporary and as soon as I see her again all other thoughts fly out the window. We were together for 18 months, and she broke up with me at the start of this year. I'm still not really certain why- I think it was mainly because we were going in different directions (she to uni, I took a year off to work), and she wanted to experience new things. And new people

.
I've tried all the usual methods, looking for other chicks, hanging out with friends, trying to keep busy with work and social life, but these are only temporary solutions to what I see as a long term problem. I can't seem to get over her.
Lately though, I've been thinking its not that I can't get over her, it's that deep down, I really don't want to get over her. I'm not really sure why. Probably because if I totally let go, it would force me to accept that she is gone, and shes not coming back. And if I really believed that was true my entire life would fall apart. So I cling to tiny, pointless, desperate glimmers of hope in the nearly impossible odds that she will come around, and come back to me.
Okay so not impossible odds, we've broken up once before and she came back to me. This time she even stated she would probably want to get back together a little bit down the track. But I think this has just made it worse- made it harder to let go. She had a boyfriend for a few months, they broke up just yesterday. This was pretty much the catalyst for all these thoughts. They've been milling around in the back of my brain for so long, and as soon as she told me they broke up they hit me all at once. I've been hit by this massive adrenaline rush for the past 2 days that seems so pathetic when I think about it- it's like subconciously I'm thinking "Sweet! Now she'll come back to me for sure!" when this is just fucking ridiculous. I offered her my suppport, of course, but I'm wondering if that was the best thing to do. I don't want to just be her friend.
I know it sounds like shes just keeping me in reserves, but it's not like that. She hasn't led me on at all, it's been me who cant get over it.
I'm not really sure what the point of this post is, I just need to get it all out, and none of my friends really understand anymore.
I've just never met anyone like her. She understands me like no-one else, she's funny, smart, and physically stunning. I wish I could put all the things I love about her into words, but I can't. I wish I could tell her everything I think about her, but I can't. I can't fuck this up again, and I know if I come on too strong too early thats exactly what I'll do.
I just don't know what to do! I feel like I can't keep going on pretending, like I need to tell her, but I don't want to fuck anything up.
Sorry for the long-winded, emo-esque nature of this post, but I needed to tell someone, or some people, or something, and this is the best I can do. Thanks guys.
