Default Music for pregnancy

Hey Gang, my lady is now 3 1/2 months pregnant, and we heard that a good trick is to listen to relaxing music, and then when the child is there and it's one of these nights, when they cry and yell, well to listen to the same music that during pregnancy, and that actually the baby could 'remenber" the piece, associate it with the time he was pleasantly numb in the womb...

So please gang, name the pieces of music you judge the more relaxing-take into account that we'll listen to it many times-. We like classic, but are wide open to other suggestions.

thanks in advance.

Yours

B.

Baroque music would be the thing of choice. It is supposed to stimulate both hemispheres of the brain if I remember correctly.

Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and composers along those lines.

My grade three education in classical music pays off again.

How about relaxation in general? You can download some free audiotapes from P2P, and some websites.

Yeah, I'd suggest listening to music that you enjoy. Otherwise if you get it to work, you'll have to listen to some type of music you wouldn't like to listen to.

I've been recommending this to a few of my friends, and they've all said it works great: Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin.

No way! I listened to Depeche Mode the entire time I was pregnant and you know what? Playing Depeche Mode was one of the only things that would ever stop my daughter from incessantly screaming until she was like 4 months old. She still loves them and she thinks Dave Gahan is hawt.

It's bullshit. Save all those parenting urges for when it pops out. Then you'll need Miles Davis more then the lil' monkey ever would.

At the most, all the kiddy is going to get are vibrations. You could do that with a vibrator against the belly button.

Or some experimental ambient shit with insane amounts of bass and sub-sonic frequencies. IE SunnO))) aka. "musical search for the brown note*"

You should listen to roulette by system of a down, a nice calm song. I listen to it when I dont want to bother listen to anything else. It helps me zone out. its pretty good and relaxing.

Pavanne is a beautiful classical piece. I could listen to that song so many times over and over again. Your baby will definitely be quite relaxed. Try the version by Chris Botti if you enjoy trumpet or if you like the gorgeous sound of oboe, there's a version by the New Zealand Symphony that's really pretty.

There're two more classical pieces that I would really recommend:

Concierto de Aranjuez, Movement II (Adagio) by Rodrigo

and

Finlandia by Jean Sibelius

But both have drastic dynamic changes. They're not just all quiet, although both have a large section with quiet, beautiful melodies.

Hope that helps.

Woaaa, thankx gang for the help.

Just wanted to add that sound indeed travels better through liquid-ie the placenta- than air, it travels 4 times faster too, hence the difficulty when you're underwater to locate precisely the propeller of a boat-one cannot use stereophonic ability, cause the sound travels too fast...-

Plus, grave sounds, like the cello, travel better.

Thanks again gang.

PS; Euda, could you precise which pieces of Bach, Vivaldi and Haendel you judge the most appropriate...

Gang don't hesitate please to be super precise, like:version, title, composers...

Cannon in D Major - Pachelbel

Air on a G string - Bach

Jesu Bleibet Meine Freude - Bach

As for contemporary music, Stone In Focus by Aphex Twin is a stunning piece of ambient music.

The Goldberg Variations, Bach (played by Glenn Gould). Mozart's piano concerto's 15, 17, 21, ahh why not all of them? Any Bach really (you should try to get all of the preludes and fugues in, if you can), Beethoven is a MUST. His 8th piano sonata is one of my favorites, in which many people believe the second movement is the most romantic he ever wrote. Listen to it, you'll really like it I believe. All of his sonata's are good, really, just that one stands out in my mind. Enjoy .
