And he HATES the present I got him! I was so upset that I kind of lost it and screamed at him. But then again...He was rather mean about it...He said we should RETURN the present to the store!

AM I just overreacting, or was it a prickish thing for him to do?

He'll probably hate the cake I made, too...:*(

Does it matter what the gift was, if it was something he didn't like or want?

It's just a thing take it back.

I got him a book I THOUGHT he wanted. It was "America the Book" by Jon Stewart. He talks about that book all of the time, but we never bought it because it's like $20 and you know...That's pretty damn expensive for a book!

I think the cake will probably be pretty good. I don't mean to brag, but I AM a superb cook!

He'll probably complain that I'm trying to make him fat or something, though.

Honestly, as a guy, I don't like getting presents. I'd rather my significant other just ask me to go out with her and do somthing I felt like doing either that day, or anytime. I do realize you have a child, but you know you could always get someone to watch her for a bit. As long as its not any other mother around, cause you know how they are.

Guys suck about receiving presents. The best thing to get them is a 6pack/26 of their choice, a pizza, a big fucking tv with hockey/football going, and then sex. That's a birthday present. A book? Not so much. Although good choice, Jon Stewart is the shit.

Books pwn the fuck out of bitter brain-killing beverages, disgusting greasy pizza, grunting muscle-bound idiots, and the passive, mind-numbing "entertainment" of the TV.

He usually LOVES books...I guess just not the one I got. And we don't even own a tv, so I assume he doesn't like it.:P

He is definitely not a typical guy...Although he is pretty muscular, but that's for his job. I could never be with a guy who just hung around watching sports and drinking beer...I would find him so BORING.

Okay, okay. I'm calm now. Anyway. My opinion on the actual topic: it is kinda prickish of him. I mean, no matter what I get I'm probably going to act appreciative. It really is the thought that counts. However, perhaps this isn't the most logical way to look at it. Was he actually like "ew I hate it", or more like "wow honey, I really appreciate this but it's not what I wanted, let's take it back and get something new together"? The second one would still make me feel bad if someone did it to me; however, it shouldn't. It's possible to appreciate the thought and want something else; after all, if you don't say anything then you're kinda wasting $20 or whatever!

I got something I did not want for my birthday. Turns out I really like it now. It is useful and practical.

But, I was tempted to return it for something else. Normally I would have. I always give gifts with the receipt so they can return or exchange. It is something expected in my book.

Calm down, cupcake. Xiao's husband is in the military. Military men are supposed to fit that stereotype, am I right? Would you feel safe having a "nancy boy" fighting wars and blowing shit up? No, no you would not.

And for the record, I wouldn't date a 1-dimensional loser who's only interests are beer, football and sex. However, I've yet to meet a guy that would turn down even 1 out of the 3 as a decent gift. Shit, I'd be happy as a clam if someone planted me in front of a tv, gave me beer and pizza and said "enjoy." Why? Because it's free shit, dude. Everyone loves free shit. And whoever gets free shit and then says it's no good is a prick.

Yeah, because if you don't like football you're automatically a nancy boy. There has never been a tough man in history who didn't like to get drunk and watch meaningless bullshit.

quote:And for the record, I wouldn't date a 1-dimensional loser who's only interests are beer, football and sex. However, I've yet to meet a guy that would turn down even 1 out of the 3 as a decent gift.

Well, maybe I wouldn't turn down the pizza . But if someone got me anything football or beer related, they'd either be covered in beer or sodomized by a football shortly after.

Well, fine. I'd appreciate the thought and act happy, but secretly I would be plotting to destroy the football-related-item in a ritualistic manner.

Simple minds, simple pleasures.

why are you mad that he didn't like the present? you didn't get him the present to feel good about yourself, right? you got it to make him happy. you took a wild guess about what he would like, and you happened to pick something a bit off base....it happens. he was honest about his opinion, which isn't actually a bad thing. you're married, so it's not like there won't be many more birthdays to come. if he's not honest with you about what he likes, then he'll be doomed to get bad birthday presents for the rest of his life. and by returning it, he's making it so that the money doesn't go to waste. that way, he can get something he actually does like.

so there's no reason to be upset. it IS the thought that counts, and that's why it doesn't matter that the book is getting returned.

Haha, one time one of my ex's got me a shirt that said nothing but "Hurley" on it.

Now, when we first started dating I told her one thing I absolutely despise, and that's t-shirts that say nothing on them except the brand. The type of shirts that have no cool design on them, just one bland color, and they just say the brand's name. It's like an advertisment that YOU are paying for. And for my birthday, what did she get me?! A FUCKING HURLEY SHIRT! I don't even like that brand, I hate all those gay skater brands.

But, when she gave it to me, do you know whta I did? I smiled, and said thanks, and gave her a hug and a kiss. I even wore it once or twice... until we broke up. It's now my cum rag.

Ps, it's actually not my cum rag, I just thought it would sound badass if I said it was.

Anyhew, xiao.. That was pretty goddamn rude of him. It was a fucking gift, he had no fucking right to complain when you were doing your best to give him something that you didnt have to get him anyway!

Fuck him. What a nasty shit. Wanna come to the UK and live with me? We can freak the fukck out of people and pretend to be lesbian lovers.

Some people might argue that it's good to be honest and tell the truth about a gift. But a gift is a fucking gift, it's a gesture of love or affection, not something someone should complain about if you get them one and it's not to their liking!

My ex was like that alot. ALOT. I got him a Jo and Bokken for aikido, and he was upset because they were the wrong color. I got him a hoodie advertising his favorite band, and he didnt like the logo.

He's my ex for many reasons, and allthough those werent really important, they were still factors in it.

It fucks me off when people kick teh gift horse in the mouth.

That is an option. Unwanted gifts can always be regifted to someone else. It's rather like recycling, except they're new and unused.

I didnt realise how superficial men could be untill recently. My /ex/boyfriend isnt one of those guys who would appreciate the beer/pizza/sex present, either, so I allways took sooo much fuckin effort over what I bought for him.

To find that he didnt like any of it!

We were sorting our possesions out a few days ago, and I find a load of these beatifull crystals and rocks Ive bought him over the past few years. Now these were expensive, and considering how enthusiastic he acted when I got him the first one, I was stupid enough to beleive him when he said he loved it.

And so when I found them chucked into a forgotten box in a dark corner a few days ago and asked if he was going to take them with him, he shrugged and said he didnt know how he acquired them.

Default Re: My husband's birthday

I dunno.. A 'prince among men' doesent really sound like a guy who'd turn down a gift from his lady.

If you ever want some subtle revenge for something your husband does, email me at

yoyobek@yahoo.co.uk

such methods would involve laxatives, and a magnet.

I'd be happy with anything, and it was mean of him to do that to you.

'Course.. I'd rather everyone forget my birthday entirely.

Actually Yoyobek and Xiao Mei in my opinion YoYoBek's ex boyfriend's behaviour was more normal and decent.

Yoyobek crystals are a shit gift and your ex liked them because you had given them to him and he loved you. They were transformed into symbols of your love and that made him happy.

Now he doesn't love you and he doesn't give a shot about them. He was probably trying to turn the knife a little.

Xiao Mei- Your husband's behaviour was so disgraceful that there may be something else on his mind.
