The ads aren't so bad.. I only got one in the last 3 days or so.

A guy named HandofZek, bisexual if I remember correctly, and the guy that fullcircle wishes he could penetrate.

It's funny. Yesterday I came back to make one specific post in B&M. I browsed through totse again after that, and didn't see a single ad. Thought they may have fixed the issue. Then after a good 12 hours away from my PC, I get on to see that imperfect circle has e-mailed me.

I click the link to this thread, and guess what? There's the ad.

Of course I run Firefox. Of course I could easily eliminate every ad here from showing in my broswer. What I'm seeing though, is a move toward a totse directed at a niche audience. Which never should have been totse to begin with.

Why don't we have a diverse population of posters here on totse? We're all about free speech, right? Where are the posters like Digital Saviour?

A person searches for suicide methods on google, and find totse as such (true story). They click the link, and are immediately faced with: "Working to reform marijuana laws", "You don't have to be gay to like buttsex" and the ever popular "Help support violence, buy a shirt".

So what, right? Totse's ads are from websites that also support free speech. Guess what though? By including these ads, and these ads exclusively, totse is outwardly portrayed as a niche site for left-wing potsmokers in the USA that aim to offend. Where are the ads promoting Islamic equality? Where are the ads promoting the second amendment? At some point (before I joined) totse became a haven for a certain audience. Go to the politics forum and post something pro-Bush (probably a bad example, as even the right-wingers are jumping that sinking ship) and you're flamed mercilessly. Post anything anti-marijuana in BLTC and you'll be flamed without reason. Post anything intelligent in SG and you're laughed at/spammed.

That's freedom of speech, right? Right. The ads have been keeping away people of various opinions before they have a chance to see what totse really is. Just as most everyone on totse would stay away from a site with a "What Would Jesus Do?" ad banner. You claim to promote free speech, but what you've actually done is contribute to the close-mindedness of the world.

It's not a problem specifically with totse either. It's sadly reached so far into the news industry that we may never be able to recover. We have libertarian news blogs written by libertarians. Who reads these skewered articles? Libertarians. Who's never going to be able to even speak the same proverbial language as the rest of the country? Everyone. The democrats watch CNN and the republicans watch Fox News. When it comes to discuss the issues, neither side will even be able to fathom where the other is coming from.

Does no one else see this? Do you not see how this will affect you?

It's the same with these new redirect ads. You get people in the T&T forum laughing at them, and saying, "If someone's to stupid to disable them, I'm glad they're leaving."

These same people will complain about the average age on totse declining. It's only a matter of time before everyone that doesn't understand these things (browsers) gets fed up and leaves, just as the christian right-wing supporters have in the face of a violently dissenting majority.

So what's totse left with? A population of posters that support making marijuana legal, advocates free speech, is predominately agnostic/atheist, is somewhere on the left-wing side of the political spectrum and has a basic knowledge of things technical. Which frankly, defines me almost to a T.

I'm going somewhere where people disagree with me, so as to avoid the closemindedness that is inherent in a site that promotes "freedom of speech".

I only get an ad the first time I click on a forum. I never read them, but hit the back button immediately to go back to that forum and they don't open again.

Question. Isn't that normal when it comes to spending money on advertizing? They wouldn't waste it on an audience that they feel are less likely to respond.
