Breaking it to Friends and Family that you are Homosexual
I'm pretty sure this is the forum to put this type of topic in.
Anyway, the title says it all. I am homosexual, 17 years of age, currently with a boyfriend of my own, but living in secret from Family and some Friends for fear of what will happen once they know.
So I ask you, people of S&A, if you have any tips of what to say to the ones I love, that I am gay.

If I was gay, I'd tell really close friends first, but definately tell your mom before your dad when you do. Sorry, thats about all the advice I've got.

I'd not tell them. Just act normally around them (normally means being YOURSELF, that is, not who they think/want you to be) and let them figure it out for themselves.

Re: Breaking it to Friends and Family that you are Homosexual
It's not bad advice. Unless you feel the need to share with them.
Do you think you'll feel this urge to "unburden" yourself?
Just live as you choose, no grand statement. Just don't sneak around the way you would before.

Yes, at first (A little over 2 years ago), I thought that I could just cover it up, and almost live a secret life, but now it has been eating me up emotionally. I just want to get it all out.

Then the question is, can you simply be open with your lifestyle, or do you want to make that grand declaraion?
Do you have the patience to let them figure things out?

I dont really know much to say on the subject. But just stick to what you said right here. and fuck anyone who stands in the way of what you want and what makes you happy.
thats universal advice really, but its true.
You're a human being, very capable of your own thoughts and decisions. If anyone is against your choices, i say.. slap them!
heh.

Re: Breaking it to Friends and Family that you are Homosexual
Dude, it's not like you're freakin' diseased or anything!
Just come out with it out of the blue that you're going out with your boyfriend one night...When your parents ask "Huh?!" just tell them straight "Mum, dad...I'm gay...I'm happy with it and it's who I am."
When you tell your friends...Some will be weird about it at first then they'll deal with it, some will no longer want to be near you...Sorry to say but it's been known to happen...But you'll know who your real friends are then!
Some of your friends...Well they'll say "Yeah...I know!"
Either way buddy, don't worry so much about it.
You'll be the same person no matter what and they'll get over it eventually!
All the best mate.

Re: Breaking it to Friends and Family that you are Homosexual
Well you should come out, if they don't allready know.
And if your Dad freaks out (my dad..I'm actually not sure how he would take it...maybe shock?) then fuck him. Live life the way you want to live it, it's to short. And if you want to live your life hiding your true self from your very creators.. then so be it.

Well, some people suggest that you don't need to tell anyone, but I get the feeling most people would tell their parents and friends had a girlfriend. Why not just casually tell thme you have a boyfriend?
PLAN4LIFE, read the wikipedia article on homosexuality.

You like things in two's eh?
1. Fuck
2. Off
And to OP, I'd tell best friends at first, if possible, make jokes about it while keeping a level of seriousness.

Re: Breaking it to Friends and Family that you are Homosexual
If you're going to do it, I wouldn't expect them to be cool with it right at the very beginning. For many parents, it takes a certain "grieving period" after learning their child is gay, where they may be really depressed or blame themselves for your "problem", and your preconceived difficulties in life, etc.
Don't get discouraged about it too much if it happens, because they most likely will get over this phase in time. Don't step lightly around the issue or allow them to fall into denial about it, but don't be confrontational, I wouldn't expect 100% acceptance right from the start, if it is indeed a surprise to them. You've known about your sexuality for several years, and have grown to be at peace with it. They haven't had the same opportunity. They may be somewhat thrown off balance, if it's a surprise... or their reaction may be almost entirely positive, I wouldn't let it bother you too much, though, if it doesn't all end up happening the way you hoped.

DSR, if your close friends dont know, tell them. And tell your closest "girlfriend" the one who you can tell secrets, everything to and such. Once you've told her, god to your mom (with your closest girlfriend by your side for support) and tell her. Rememeber tell your mom first, shes a woman so she'll understand better then your father.
