Default she had that plutonium glow...

Was shopping up at the local 'Palace Of Darkness' (aka supermarket aka 'Morrisons') this lunch time.

Standing in the cheese aisle and debating wether to buy the cut price soap (aka english cheese) or walk back to the Deli in town and buy something decent (ie foreign). When suddenly this very attractive woman comes down the aisle, smiling at me and obviously knowing me from somewhere.

We greeted and suddenly i realised who it was. She's a good friend and someone i've known for maybe 20 years (younger sis of a college mate of mine). But i haven't seen her for maybe 2 years now.

Infact as soon as we started talking we both realised how long it had been since we had last spoken. In the mean time she and her husband had split up, amicably, and she was now living with a 25 year old bloke (she's late 30's).

What i couldn't get over was how she seemed to glow and sparkle. I mean she was always a looker but now she looked younger, more alive and yeah just HAPPY!

It wasn't just the new hair do or the tastefully choosen dress.

Got me thinking about how being loved can make even the ugliest of us look kinda good. I don't just mean the physical, the finally discovering what water can be used for besides ruining a good scotch. But that metaphysical aura some seem to get.

Thoughts? Does this happen to you?

Does it happen for you in reverse too (ie when you break up with someone then you look like shit NO matter what you do)?

I must say that I am not sure what you mean by this, although I do recall being healthier and having much more energy back when I felt loved

Maybe I just can't contribute much since I don't have much life experience.

I think it is safe to say that that is one fault you'll certainly grow out of...

When you feel good, you look good.

That's what I've always figured anyway.

I fluctuate too much to really notice a big change (one day/hour/minute I'll be over the moon in love, the next I'll be convinced they don't like me), but when I am feeling happy/loved up I must look better.

I think it's a self-confidence thing. When you're happy with yourself, it shows.

It´s true. My situation with my husband dictates how I look. :s When we fight, all my nails break. Like they grow up to an inch long, fine, then one fight, atleast one breaks. For everyday it continues, one more breaks.

I also look like shit when we fight, even if I´m doing the whole Fuck You I Will Go Out and Get Attention thing. I´ll do whatever and still look like I´ve just been told I have cancer.

When all is good, I get told I look great.

Bah. Damn his effects.

Not just that but love has curitive properties as well.

Scientifically stemming from Oxytocin which is currently coined as the "love hormone" or the "cuddle hormone" which releases in massive amounts during orgasm, birth, and releases slowly throughout the process of being in love. It's the exact opposite of Cortisol which is like super adrenaline and excretes during super intense stress situations, and was only truly useful when we were hunter and gatherers because (although it keeps us alive when times are tough) it breaks down organs deemed "unnecessary".

Oxytocin has the exact opposite effect as it's what bonds parents together to take care of their young; it promotes happiness; it promotes health; it even promotes itself. That's right the more oxytocin (love) available, more frequently, the easier the hormone is released and activated. Unlike the Neurotransmitter most people associated with love, Dopamine, which is more on the lines of lust and requires more and more to get that same effect.

Besides that sex causes the release of a variety of sweat that cleanses the pores, and is a great cardiovascular work out.

Add to all of that the psychological well being of love where one feels cherished, needed, and purposful the glow is going to come in abundance.

'tis a beautiful thing, this being-in-love

As im young, I dont think I have ever felt "love" or been "loved" but recently I met this amazing girl, and all that afternoon people were saying how I looked really happy and just better.
