If you were in a horrible accident...
Say you were with some one that you loved, but you were in an accident and came out of it crippled needing assistance for the rest of your life (Like losing your legs). And they were willing to stay with you, would you subject them to that?
If anything ever went wrong with me, horribly disfigured, crippled, etc, I'd never want to subject some one I love to that.
What say you?

Re: If you were in a horrible accident...
I would probably kill myself. I would be much happier that way rather than needing 24 hour medical assistance.

As for me... I'm too selfish. Unless they were obviously very unhappy, I would be a leech.

Same here, I'd probably hurt her real bad, so she'd stay away, and then I'd end my life.

You never know. Parapalegics can still have game and do get married.
Saw it in a documentary called Murderball.

That's cruel. Just end it without the hurting part; there's no need to make her stay away if you're going to kill yourself and at least she'd have memories of a happy relationship.

Same. I'd say shit like "You're pathetic. I never loved you. Look how disgusting you are, you're willing to stay with a cripple!". Every word will kill me inside to utter, but it's what's best for her. Then when she's out of my life I'd off my self.

It's quit fucking humane if you ask me, hell you don't need to kill yourself as soon as she closes the door.

Exactly, are we too good for this world? or is it because we'll take any excuse to off ourselves?

Re: If you were in a horrible accident...
I'd have to play it by ear. Life doesn't end if you're damaged, it only changes.
I wouldn't expect anybody to take care of me, I'd probably try to be as self-sufficient as possible, but I would appreciate help if it was done out of kindness and love/friendship rather than pity.

I don't see how it would help anything except your sense of being a Suffering and Noble Hero. I know that if a similar thing happened to my girl, I'd be a lot more unhappy if she started being cruel before she killed herself. I'd rather her not kill herself at all, actually, but if she did I'd want at least to have the fond memories... knowing she died in loving relationship etc... As cheesy as that is.
Edit: Yeah, I think Euda hit it. I wouldn't end my own life, and if someone really wanted to stay with me I don't think I'd try to push them away.

Call me an asshole, but there's no way I'd spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair, or walking around with burned skin hanging on my face, I already told EVERYONE I know that if that ever happens, I quit.

Re: If you were in a horrible accident...
Well...If my husband got hurt really bad, I would spend my life taking care of him. I wouldn't look on it as a burden and I wouldn't resent him for it. I would just be sad that he was crippled/burned and in pain or unhappy. I know he feels the same way about me...That's just the way it is when you love someone. When he and I got married we said it was forever no matter what, and we meant it.

Re: If you were in a horrible accident...
Before I read this thread my response would be similar to arquin's. Now I'm reading Xiao Mei's and others' replies and realizing that some people might see it as an way to demonstrate their devotion and act on their principles. Why would I want to deny them the ability to stick by someone they love through thick and thin if they wanted to? It would be wrong to reject their devotion. Of course, I'm looking at this with an air of detachment. If I were crippled I might act differently.

Your a dumbass, YOU love the person, not the other way around. That makes you a jipped asshole.

Re: If you were in a horrible accident...
If I was in an accident and became a paraplegic, I'd learn to do stuff on my own, and if my significant other really loved me, she'd help me now and again, but all in all, I'd go as independent as I could. If I for some reason couldn't be so independent, as a paraplegic, I'd probably just try to end the relationship nicely and find paid help or a home.
However.. if I became a quadriplegic in the accident.. I'm not sure.. I'd surely end the relationship, then (PERSONALLY) I would kill myself. However, I know people who would simply go into a nursing home and live the rest of their days.
I dunno though, man, .. I've seen more than one people who were very physically challenged sport real hot babes. It'd all depend on how challenged I was, really.

Re: If you were in a horrible accident...
I bet most of those who said they'd kill themselves or something pathetic like that, would actually act quite differenjt if they were ever in that situation.
I've been disabled for about 15 years now - though I can care for myself quite well still.
But it hasn't stopped me from persuing relationships. And no, it hasn't lowered the quality of woman I go out with either.

Pathetic? Just because you're too much of a pussy to do it doesn't mean others won't.
Or let me rephrase that, just because you can live with it doesn't mean others can.
Besides you can take care of yourself, that's different.

Okay, sorry, I meant she loved me as well.
Why would I want to subject her to that? If I agreed to marry, it'd be because I love her and want ONLY the best for her. Who am I trying to kid if I'm a cripple? I lower her quality of life. Any one I marry will have a sex drive that equals mine, if we can't have sex, we'd have an empty hollow relationship. Words can only describe your feelings a millionth of what your actions during sex can.

Well I don't want to see her kill her self, but you know...it'd help me out in the long(short?) run.
She'd be helping me out enormously, as would I be helping her by offing my self. It all depends on your life ambitions. If I had to look after a girl, I would, but god would I pray that she offed her self. I wouldn't be able to live a happy fulfilling life with a total cripple. Honestly, I want to travel the world, climb mountains, ride motorbikes, skydive, HAVE SEX etc. Good things. Try doing that with your quadraplegic girlfriend.
See, if I was holding a girl back from her life ambitions, and me killing my self might hurt her for 6-12 months, but allows her to start fresh and be happy for 20+ years, who am I to deny that of her?

there's actually evidence that quadraplegics can get hard and enjoy sex, even without any sensation, because the primary sexual organ is really the brain.

Re: If you were in a horrible accident...
I would like to point out that the guys in murdrball were quadriplegic. It doesn't mean you are a vegitable. The main guy got along fine by himself with just a little extra help. Anyone who said they would off themselves is a pussy. It would be hard for a while but people adapt.

Re: If you were in a horrible accident...
killing youself, and especially if you hurt your partner emotionally before that would make them feel incredibly guilty, they would put two and two together and realise why you said horrible things and come top the conclusion that it was some how their fault. besides, if it was true love like this hypothetical situations says then your partner truly wouldn't mind caring for you.

Re: If you were in a horrible accident...
I dont really understand that it would be an issue if you were *really* badly hurt.
If you were hurt that bad she wouldnt be the one looking after you cause you'd need proper professionals to care for you, 24/7.
I really doubt I'll ever love again, but if I did I certainly wouldnt want that person hovering around seeing me crippled and broken.

See from this post, it's obvieous(sp?) you've never really loved someone with your whole heart and soul. If my husband killed himself it would ruin my life...Seriously. I would never get over it, I mean it would destroy me completely. I have an enormous sex drive and I have been having sex every day for almost 9 years, but if something happened and my husband and I could never have sex again I would get over it. I'm sure I would miss it sometimes, but not NEARLY as much as I would miss him if he were dead. The same goes for every other activity you mentioned. Nothing in life could take his place...Ever.
If my husband killed himself, he would be doing HIMSELF a favor, not me.

Regretably, no crippling. Walked away from it without so much as a bruise. Can't say as much for the car.
